One of the few games, if not the only game where I prefer to walk/fly to my next destination rather than fast travel. Fantastic work with the attention to detail.
I like how the interior of the castle in the game portrays that the castle has older and newer sections to it. The grand staircase is very medieval where as other parts feel very 1700s
I think I saw a video from Shadiversity talking about this. Like the design of the school implies that half of it was made later because of the architecture being more "modern" than some of the more "medieval" portions of the castle.
The most fascinating about this is the 100 year difference made so visibly well. Hogwarts was constructed magically and Rowena Ravenclaw designed the castle free for modification. So what we see in the present days Hogwarts is actually the most updated look of the castle. We can also see the deteriorated and broken details of the exterior in the movies and it was so well designed in the game. You can see a time difference (like the missing spires of the fountain in the courtyard or the potions classroom, the bordered Latin words are more prominent in the movies, also Hagrid’s Hat which was expanded when he moved in as a groundskeeper. I love this game so much, you can tell it was built with love and passion. The amount of details in the architecture and faunas. Just mind blowing!
At 14:20, there actually is the bathroom from the movie inside the game. It’s in the corridors near Slytherin. There’s a field guide that mentions the design of a snake on one of the faucets, and it states that “nobody knows its significance” or something along those lines.
@@zsoltbartus169 yeah it exists. my buddy wanted his ass sorted into slytherin and he ran around near his house entrance on day 1 while i was going around mine (gryffindor) and he sent me snaps of the bathroom and said: "yoooooo" i then went myself and yeah it's there. looks exactly like in HP2
I hope that they'll keep updating the game with more immersive content. I've never felt more on an adventure like in this game. Something about this game just makes me feel really happy to just play it. It's like a childhood dream come true, just like I'd have imagined it if I was a character in that world when watching the films.
The Bathroom in 14:08 isnt the one you showed in the game, but its actually replicated in-game, just unfortunate you cant actually open the chamber of secrets
Because Hogwarts Legacy took place in the 1890s, 50 years before the Chamber of Secrets was opened, so in order to respect canon, it was inaccessible to players.
Here is the reason:- As mentioned, only a Parselmouth can open the Chamber, and it is widely believed that the ability to speak Parseltongue is only passed to the heirs of Slytherin. As an heir of Slytherin, Tom Riddle could certainly be expected to speak Parseltongue, and so he is able to open the Chamber. And because your character doesn't know about it so you can't open it.
I don't regret a single penny the game cost me, the world is built with so much care and love, simply walking around is such an amazing experience. This is something I always wanted and would have killed for when I was a kid reading those books and watching the movies. I have not been this excited to explore a wolrd since Skyrim came out, it is just so damn good.
Days into the game and I still find myself taking laps around the castle just in awe. I've spent so much time exploring hogwarts I've barely paid enough attention to the rest of the open world.
This is finally the game everyone wanted as a kid. This is truly the first next generation game we’ve gotten and it’s just so damn unbelievable it almost makes me emotional Scratch that I teared up
@@Jason_Bover9000 What does "next gen" mean at all, lol? 😂 I keep hearing this word from 2008, and it's still out there somewhere, like elusive unicorn.
Being a fan for 20 years has paid off. this game is a masterpiece for the fans. i feel emotional being inside the world that only fully existed in my imagination
I've never imagined in my lifetime that I'd see the amazing world of Harry Potter will be faithfully adapt into video-game. Truly a masterpiece! Well done, Avalanche devs.👌
Its amazing they were able to get so close to the movie designs, I think just the scale of the castle alone just shows how big the place really is. I had always pictured Hogsmeade as being downhill and to tucked into a valley in the mountains but the game really expanded how I pictured the topography. Also interesting that the castle wings are interconnected by open air bridges which was something I never noticed in the movies.
Hogsmeade being roughly on the same height as the castle is consistent with the books. Remember Harry walking through the secret tunnel to Honeydukes. After sliding down a bit initially he had to walk uphill and was short of breath when he reached Honeydukes.
Then you never played the EA games for the 5th and 6th movie, these are the only games were you can walk an entire version of Hogwarts, including the bridges, I really had issues navigating because I played these a few years ago.
Flying a broom at night during winter is truly a heartwarming experience. The castle itself is truly a work of art and there are only better things to come from this game since it has been such a huge success even with people trying to bring it down
The game is truly amazing and perfect, It has been so many years without seeing a game made with love and enthusiasm; no season pass, no greedy devs, no constant in-game store bombardment. This is pure and true gamming at its finest.
Damn! The amount of work they put into this game is astounding. Every nook and cranny of the castle is perfectly re-created. I think it even looks better than the movie.
The grand staircase is the obvious big difference. I think they discovered very early in development that time and RNG based staircases arent the most efficient, magical or not.
I do love how some spaces are way bigger than they are in the movies, for example the gryffindor common room because it now makes more sense how 7 grades worth of people have that as their common room
Never been a harry potter fan but I´ve played videogames for 30 years and I can easily see when a game is a masterpiece made with love and inspiration.
It's amazing how they were able to contextualize Hogwarts Castle like that let alone Hogwarts world - all while maintaining its magic and awe. It truly is amazing and I'm not even a fan like that.
The most impressive part is how Avalanche managed to weave together all these famous movie/book locations into one fully-explorable map. The movies never had to think about the actual layout of the school, how hallways and rooms connect to each other in physical space, how to actually get from transfiguration class to potions class. This game connects everything flawlessly and it all feels so nature to explore. I've put 20 hours in and I'm finally starting to know my way around the castle by memory. I'm purposely avoiding floo flames just so I can experience the school in its entirety. Well done Avalanche!!
I like how some things are intact in the game while in the movies it’s more weathered or outright destroyed. Really sells the vast amount of time that has passed
Absolutely loving this game, this is probably the best game Ive played built off a well loved franchise. The developers have nailed that magical world feel and for a team that have never done a big game like this they should be damn proud of themselves for what they've achieved. Is the game perfect? No, But it is still an absolute joy to play and I really hope we see a sequal set just before Harry potters years at hogwarts or just after.
There's an awesome nod I'm sure it's already been covered but I found it myself. Just outside the great hall in the courtyard where the entrance to dumbledores office was in past potter games and also I believe in the movies, there's a phoenix drawing on the wall symbolising the family of dumbledore and a nod to the devs acknowledging the existence of the previous location of the headmasters office.
I underestimated how good this game was going to be. Everything is earned in game, good feeling gameplay/combat, great story, meaningful side quests, and the attention to detail was just superb. I couldnt put the game down for days. After 50+ hours I’ve gotten my field guide to 95% and I’m sad that I have pretty much done everything there is to do other than save a handful of beasts 😢
My main issue is that I wish the great lake and dark forest were expansive and sprawling like they are in the films. You can see at 4:02 to 4:20 that they are both greatly diminished and it takes a lot away from the surrounding landscape (which is a big part of Hogwarts).
Looking at it, maybe the difference could be explained away by the lake getting bigger/deeper for some reason? It would give the developers a pretty good excuse for the world size. Maybe in the HP universe they still have to deal with the weather and geography, or maybe they filled it more on purpose (perhaps to fit a giant squid?) ? I love that the game gives you so much to think about, and you can only theories about what happened from the game to the movies...
It could be that they changed the scale of those areas because they also had to design stuff further from it, like the other villages. And it would be too complex to make it a mao even bigger than the one already is.
Really shows how much the original set designers nailed the movie Hogwarts. The game just takes it a step further with inspiration from the book. But other than lord of the rings I don't think anyone nailed a fantasy setting this well since in movies.
that's what i was thinking - this game design is amazing but if anything it shows just how much care and detail the original set designers put into the movies!
It's surreal the creators of Hogwarts Legacy really brought to life the breathe and atmosphere of the castle. It's lively and very beautiful in detail, it alone sets the tone for the entire game!
14:06 - that bathroom is actually in the game, near the Slytherin common room entrance. There is even a field guide page in there that references the chamber of secrets.
They done a phenomenal job. I was blown away when I explored around the castle. It still puts me in awe when I see it after playing for several days. Amazing job they exceeded expectations.

Impressive to say the least, down right mind blowing at best. Love this game! Edit: Also, one more thing, I am glad I chose Hufflepuff first go, cause I got to visit Azakaban! I love the attention to detail on the game!! Sometimes I just stop and look at every little thing, I’m also just a sucker for Victorian architecture as well.
I didn't realise that the clock tower courtyard looked so damaged in the movies. Interesting. I definitely prefer the castle in the game. It just makes more sense, the grand staircase being round in the game for example. It is in the big main round tower, that never made sense in the movies as it was square.
Well yeah it is better but it’s also an inconsistency with how it’s established to look in the films which are in the same canon. But hogwarts is known to to change appearance as time goes by anyways so that’s how they can explain the difference between the appearance of the staircase .
@@stephenHolloway88 no they’ve said over and over again it’s the same universe as the films. The castle in the books looks and is described differently than the one in the films. The castle and surrounding area in the game looks exactly like the one in the films externally . It’s just inside the castle that looks different in some places like the staircase for example. It also looks just like films in other places like the courtyards and the entrance of the castle, the common rooms etc . As I’ve said, it’s established that hogwarts changes it’s appearance internally with passing generations. So it doesn’t look exactly the same over hundreds of years .
@@Deerhunter60641 true, but they always had the same staircase . Really after the third movie, the castle was kept consistent . But again it’s established in the lore that Hogwarts changes it’s appearance as time goes on .

I just wanna say as a HP fan since I was a little kid I am really grateful that I am able to play this game. Thank you very much Avalanche for making our dream come true! We have finally received Hogwarts' invitation letter to become one of the most brilliant wizards/witches.
I prefer the designs of the movies (half blood prince was probably my favorite design) over the game, but it’s still so impressive to look at and explore in a game
@@sandiego2380 it’s very weird how much changes over the next 92 years. Greenhouses especially but everything drastically changed. The developers created the most magical game i have ever played seeing hogwarts in "person" and being able to explore every inch of it made me so happy and riding a hippogryph for the first time was amazing this game is so beautiful from the beautiful nature to amazing arcatecture its legit everything i dreamed of
Hats off to the makers. Absolutely amazing job. Unbelievable. I can walk these halls myself. Childhood memories come to life. I'm going to read the books again having this sharp image of the castle in my head. Thank you!
10:32 In case you don't know, the reason they changed the staircases, was because the speed of the stairs changing positions was slowing the player a LOT! Just imagine it, if you increase the speed of that rotation the stairs will look really weird while changing, so you have to make them rotate slowly which would end up waiting for like 10 seconds for each stair to change. While the one they implemented, was able to make the stairs animation to play really fast without making it look weird and without slowing down the player making sure at the same time that the animation looks great.
14:12 idk why you showed that random bathroom, the ACTUAL chamber of secrets bathroom is in the game, I found it and there was a revelio page in front of it saying that one of the sinks had a snake etched into it
Does anyone remember the music that used to be played for this video? I liked it a lot but now that it was removed, I just wanted to see see if I can find it! Thank you if anyone finds it and tells me!
I am not a Harry Potter fan but I can appreciate just how much detail and effort was put into making Hogwarts castle so detailed and true to the films whenever possible. It is worth noting that by setting the series in the later 19th century, the devs gave themselves more freedom for certain aspects of the world design. For example it is plausible that the decor and landscape may have changed somewhat in the century or so between Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter story.
Seems like some of the interiors and exteriors in Hogwarts Legacy are actually bigger than in the movies. Notice the difference in side walls in the Great Hall being further away than in the movies!
The Fat Lady’s portrait is back in a hallway as she was in the 1st movie. The Gryffindor common room is bigger to truly fit all 7 years of students. With Slytherin, we only got a brief glimpse.
I wish they would do a VR tour and put it on Steam and Meta. I've been taking 360 photos using Nvidia Ansel and putting the pictures on my VR headset. Very cool and immersive to inject yourself into the world. Too bad they are just static images though.
The Hogwarts in Hogwarts Legacy has its own merit. I love that they did not totally recreate the caste based on the movies like the previous games but totally revamped and created a better version of it. I love the new gardens and the grand staircase and the central hall. Basically everything. It's much better than the movies
Excellent views, but just a note: The girl's bathroom near the slytherin common room is the bathroom with the chamber of secrets... it even has a note for you to find about it. And it looks more like the movie version!
btw, the moaning mertle bathroom that was shown from the game is not the right bathroom.. her bathroom was the girls bathroom near the slytherin common room in game
They took the book and the mismatch multiple Hogwarts from the movies and made it one coherent thing. Staying true to the book with so many things but keeping the easily recognisable locations from the movies. Definitely a blue print for any future TV/Movie projects.
6:02 that rainy scene with the head masters office makes Hogwarts feel so cozy. That would be the best place to watch a thunderstorm from and smoke some magic herb
Saludos!
The bathroom at around 14:08 from the movie is not the bathroom you showed in Hogwarts Legacy. The bathroom in the movie is the one occupied by Moaning Murtle and is also the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets which is the girls bathroom in the Slytherin dungeons. It looks much closer and it's just the movie that didn't seem to understand that with the Chamber of secrets being underneath Hogwarts the entrance would be somewhere in the dungeons with no Windows.
Certe there are many different elements but I still remember that the game is well before the movies here is one of the reasons why the game is different
Me gusto el nuevo Hogwarts pero me quedo infinitamente con el de las peliculas y los juegos de la orden y el principe que tan bien y fielmente representaron al castillo
The only thing I was disappointed by was the Grand Staircase because in the game it just didn’t have that huge sense of scale like in the movie. It’s far to small and I enjoy how the stairs move in the movie far more than the game. Also the great hall didn’t look as big which was slightly disappointing
The Great Hall looks fine to me, the game version is wider, while the movie version is longer. But both look huge in my opinion. What's weird to me is how much they changed the Gryffindor common room. I get that it's a lot more enjoyable to stay there if it's bigger but it just looks so different from the movie version. Even the Slytherin common room as well
Also agree with the staircase, it doesn't even look the same. Even the PSP Order of the Phoenix game had the exact same staircase as the movies.. they were even moving in that game
@@paul_nthny what are you thoughts on the soundtrack? Personally I thinks it pretty good but I’ve seen people comparing it to Skyrim which I think is kinda odd. Don’t get me wrong HL has good music but it’s nowhere near as memorable as Skyrims ambient music

The time I found the headhunting ghost room, I immediately tried the path Harry would have taken from hearing the Basilisk to the bathroom with the secret entry. I thinkl it's awesome how HL map of hogwart is incredibly coherent and actually feel like a school castle where seven years of school children, teachers and elfs could live in
I am incredibly excited by the world of Hogwarts Legacy. But I can't help but feel like there's something wrong with the map. For example, in the books it is clearly mentioned that Hagrid's hut is not far from the Quidditch pitch (he watched the matches from there), and the Forbidden Forest begins right behind his hut. And all three of these locations should be visible from one side from the window of the Gryffindor tower.
I'm glad, that after so many years, something like this was released. I feel like nowadays a fandom is old after 5 years, and you rarely find anyone still as interested in it as we Potterheads are. It's such a unique experience to be able to dive into a world, that you read, heard, saw and thought so much about. It's kinda like the feeling when you finally remember a dream you had last night, only a thousand times more intense. Aside the beauty and accuracy of this game, it delivers in most aspects and even excelled some of my high expectations. I was a bit hesitant when I read what other games were developed from the same department. I feared that they were trying to achieve something, that was out of their league. But as it seems, my fears were uncalled-for. The story is interesting with different OC, that do not feel too similar to people we know from the Potter universe, but you still got names, of old pureblood families you remember, with traits like red hair that will make them recognizable. The tasks you get to learn new spells are sometimes interesting and challenging, but some are also tedious and nerve wrecking. The same goes for the enemies - I don't have anything against spiders, other that they are annoying in real-life, but in this game they are literally everywhere. In the caves, woods, dungeons and old buildings, as soon as you see a net you know there are at least 10 or more of them waiting for you. But give me a troll or a bunch of those toads (I'm playing it in German, so no clue what their names are) and I'm fighting with adrenalin in hope not to use too many potions. Ohh, and don't get me started on some of those riddles! They are awesome! Like the one you have to puzzle your way out with accio and depulso, just amazing. So if someone read until now - thank you! I could go on and on, but I think this is enough for now.
I never thought I'd be so privileged to see the wonderful world of Harry Potter come to life in a video game like this. Truly a masterpiece.

It was The Architect and Rowena that built Hogwarts.
At 14:20, there actually is the bathroom from the movie inside the game. It’s in the corridors near Slytherin. There’s a field guide that mentions the design of a snake on one of the faucets, and it states that “nobody knows its significance” or something along those lines.
hope so. thats nothing like Myrtile's bathroom
@@Krishnakujur78 but it has the snake carving on the sink as if it was there.

The people that made Hogwarts Legacy knew exactly what Harry Potter fans wanted and gave it to us.
@@arpussupra its magic, doesnt need to mention the word topography to make it happen
What about the distane? I always imagined Hogsmeade would be farther away.
And I guess it is, but for gameplay reasons it's just a short walk.
Then you never played the EA games for the 5th and 6th movie, these are the only games were you can walk an entire version of Hogwarts, including the bridges, I really had issues navigating because I played these a few years ago.
Yeah. Movies have much darker light tho. The game looks amazing!!
This is pure and true gamming at its finest.
maybe stop playing online/multiplayer games. Single player offline experiences don’t have any of that bs, and 9/10 are significantly better.
Damn! The amount of work they put into this game is astounding. Every nook and cranny of the castle is perfectly re-created. I think it even looks better than the movie.
I find that the Entrance Courtyard looks better in Hogwarts Legacy.

@starsgold1066 its because in the films, hogwarts was pretty much all destroyed so i guess its why most of the stuff here is changed
Movie 3's rendition of the castle was always my favorite, I love how many details from that they preserved.
It truly is amazing and I'm not even a fan like that.
amazing how they achieved both nostalgia and novelty at the same time.
I like that it’s able to be simultaneously accurate to the movies and the books. It’s just the perfect balance between both…
Agreed.
they took the best part from the movies and thats the design of some things
This is actually insane. So beautiful.
The combat sistem Is very good, but the world in general isn't that good ,after 50+ hours i get bored sometimes!!
@@lswee_508 I agree, the villages look very exchangeable and the side-quests are always quite boring.
After 50+ hours I’ve gotten my field guide to 95% and I’m sad that I have pretty much done everything there is to do other than save a handful of beasts 😢
thanks for the effort put into finding the exact location in films and game! really fun to see them compared
The amount of work and details they put in this game is astonishingly incredible ! This is a masterpiece
They even made Snape’s storage room where he accused Harry of stealing in Goblet of Fire. It’s the little details what really puts a smile on my face.
and there's even a little side quest where you can actually choose to steal from there too.
When I see the game graphics I'm impressed and full of admiration.
When I see it for real, I am enchanted and want to be there immediately.
Did u play the game
Just wait. There's a VR mod coming so we can really get to sense the scale and feel what it's like to stand in the castle.
@@JeppeBeier But not for me, i play on Xbox Series X without VR 😥
3:15 I see that Hagrid is good at DIY work
Really shows how much the original set designers nailed the movie Hogwarts.

Idk about Hogwarts being a Victorian style? Medieval Gothic maybe? or are you referring to the interiors..
I like the greeny blue colour balance they use in the film. I wonder if someone will make a "Harry Potter movie reshade" mod.
There should be one to emulate every movie. The first two are definitelly the most colorful of all of them.
@@mackmitchell94 it's set in the same universe as the books. Which is why the castle looks different, it's more accurate to the book castle.
@@mackmitchell94the movies are so inconsistent with their own castle it doesn’t matter and isn’t a valid complaint

Notice the difference in side walls in the Great Hall being further away than in the movies!
yes, for gameplay purposes probably, so you can move around easier without bumping into NPCs too much.
You also noticed the stair in the classroom is wider too, or else it'll be a pain to walk up the stairs

6:02 that rainy scene with the head masters office makes Hogwarts feel so cozy. That would be the best place to watch a thunderstorm from and smoke some magic herb

I hope somebody makes a good VR mod for this. I'd love to walk through the halls of hogwarts in VR.
It’s really amazing how much attention to detail the artists put into this
The only thing I was disappointed by was the Grand Staircase because in the game it just didn’t have that huge sense of scale like in the movie. It’s far to small and I enjoy how the stairs move in the movie far more than the game. Also the great hall didn’t look as big which was slightly disappointing
The Great Hall looks fine to me, the game version is wider, while the movie version is longer. But both look huge in my opinion.
