What I would like to see is a very detailed analysis of Hogwarts in the order of the phoenix and half-blood prince games. Meticulously comparing every single room, corridor, courtyard etc. with its movie counterparts. Maybe sprinkle some information on how each location is connected to the next, and as a bonus if it’s consistent with the book. This easily makes 40 minutes of content, so splitting it into shorter videos and making it a series would make it manageable
Immediately subscribed after your first Hogwarts Legacy video. I absolutely love your Hogwarts explanations and analyses. You're the only youtuber that explores the castle in-depth. This is probably an unpopular opinion but… IT’S A MAGIC CASTLE! I actually love every time it changes. It’s similar enough that it feels like the same place, but when you can do pretty much anything with a wave of a semi-sentient piece of wood then it would honestly seem diminished if the castle was the same every time we saw it. We know from thee Goblet of Fire that the inside of a place need not match the outside (the Weasley’s tent that they borrowed which means it’s not even the nicest available). If all 142 staircases inside can and do adjust their destination seemingly at random, why wouldn’t a random tower spring up or the entrance sprout a viaduct? I hate when people apply muggle logic to wizard architecture
This channel is really cool, I love hearing about all the different changes. I didn't really notice them when watching for the first time, but looking back it was obvious how different things had gotten.
I normally would be slightly annoyed with such changes to a major set in a movie series, but in terms of Harry Potter I find it actually fitting that the castle can be changed depending on specific needs and requirements for each year.
FINALLY someone I can talk to! I'm so glad you put these videos out there! It seems we've been living parallel lives. I've been obsessed and peeved with Hogwarts and it's ever-changing architecture as well. I could literally talk about it for HOURS!!! It's a beautiful edifice but the logistical concerns from a book readers standpoint have always bugged me but I've just learned to say "cuz magic🪄✨" and live with the paradoxical inconsistencies of the films... 🤦🏾♂️
Glad to hear it! Yeah I've tied myself up in knots in the past about inconsistencies too, like how often the interior doesn't match the exterior or changes are made. But the magic excuse is what you have to fall back on 😂
You've been a great deal of help in helping me chart inconsistencies to make an unofficial grand map of Hogwarts that takes into account all the film ret-cons. Wish me luck! 🤞🏾
I could’ve watched an hour long version of this! It’s so fascinating! I always thought the castle changing every year was strange and annoying, but you’re right, they always got the vibe right
Other little Easter Egg IMO is the fact that it’s the half-blood prince version of the castle that is still featured at WB studios in London. They new Diagon alley set is directly based on the one in the London studio tour as well-why we have a pink quidditch shop.
The only one I really noticed, and was bothered by, was moving Hagrid's hut and the Whomping Willow down a huge hill. That was glaringly obvious. The rest were more subtle or could fall under the "magical location" reasoning in my head 😂
This video is amazing! I’ve always been curious about all the Hogwarts changes and this video taught me so much about the castle’s layout that I didn’t know! I hope your channel starts doing better! It’s a tough age to grow on this platform.
On the first watch I notice some changes certainly, but the range of rearrangements is bewildering to see 🤭 Personally I just imagined Hogwarts to be so massive in size mostly, that the new parts and buildings and courtyards and so on were always there but never relevant until they were shown. And it's a magic castle in the end 💫😄
Great video, I’m in the middle of building a Lego moc of hogwarts starting with the great hall, have the blueprints book, but trying to build something that fits across all the movies is a challenge, not so much for the great hall itself, which is largely unchanged (except for the hogwarts teachers dias which changes almost every film) but for the entrance / anteroom which changes radically between movies! Look forward to the next video!
I always wished we, as the viewing public, could at least see 2-D CAD drawings to help in understanding the castle layout. As someone who does 2-D CAD for a living, whenever I had visited the 'Making Of....' tour, any drawings shown at all were high up on walls and just part of the overall decor rather than artefacts in their own right. Many is the time I have wished to thoroughly survey that scale model at the climax of said tour - ah, but a lass can dream - great vid, thanks.
I didn't see your subs count when I watched this video, and when you at the end said "I wan't to reach 1000 subs", I really thought you meant 1000K as in 1.000.000, due to the fact that this video was so well made. Countinue doing what you are doing, and be sure that you earned a new subscriber in me. Have a good day!
What a wonderfully made video! You absolutely deserve lots of subscribers & monetisation. I have a feeling that a rapid growth of your channel is inevitable😁
Half blood prince is the definitive hogwarts, it looks perfect. It’s what I wish we could have gotten in hogwarts legacy. There’s something really off about hogwarts legacy’s astronomy tower, it really should have been the tallest building on their model.
I'd love to see you analyse the Lego Hogwarts microscale set that they released a few years ago, talking about how close they got it to the film version and which film version it best resembles
Awesome video! Growing up I was obsessed with the small changes made throughout the movies. Most changes are fine because they're relatively small and it's a magic castle. BUT the grand staircase change in the last movie was really jarring and I think a wasted opportunity for a cool set piece on the moving stairs.
Love the video man! Some hopefully helpful advice I think you should either keep your current channel name or if you really want to change it maybe change it to something less Harry Potter specific. With or a more neutral name it opens your content up to a more diverse range of topics which would probably benefit you and your channel in the long run. Completely your choice of course. Only you know what works best for you and your image. Side note: On the subject of the Grand Staircase in The Deathly Hollows I think that the tower moving upwards would probably look the same with the moving staircases and all. I think they just showed what the bottom floor looked like in those two films. I could be missing something though, if I am I would love to know if you have any insight on that.
Thanks, that's true, it does force the channel to be only hogwarts content which could be tricky! The moving staircases could be the same above yeah but originally they went all the way down to the great hall, whereas in deathly hallows there are the new large staircases going up from the great hall
Great video as always man! It's so interesting to see how much Hogwarts changes in a decade. A video I'd love you to make is what your dream Hogwarts is. What features from the films (or even the books) would you have?
Thanks! My favourite incarnation is definitely Half Blood Prince, it kind of replaced my vision of hogwarts from the books so I find it hard to picture any other version. Hogwarts legacy could change that because the interpretation in that game looks amazing. Hbu?
@@hogwartsexpert | Sounds good! As controversial as this may be, the DHp2 version of Hogwarts is my favourite, albiet my personal changes would be: (DANGER: LONG AND OBNOXIOUS COMMENT) 1) The Viaduct - There are 2 of them; the old viaduct from PS to HBP, and the new one with a pathway leading to Hogsmede Station and perimeter walls so that it's not just a flawed defense mechanism for the plot convenience of DHp2. 🤣 The Training Grounds - While partially swallowed up by the hills, the CoS version of this area and its corresponding tower remain in my ideal Hogwarts, but with small gothic features to match the rest of the school (e.g., the turrets becoming more spiked). The Quad - A theory going around is that the Quad was sunken to basement level in the first 3 movies. I think this is a really unique idea and want to include it. The only difference is the second Boathouse pathway seen in the OotP and HBP games. The Bell Towers and Greenhouses - The greenhouses are moved to the side of the Long Gallery and take on how they will look in Hogwarts Legacy, while the bell towers obtain their own courtyard, with curvy pathways leading back into the Training Grounds. The DADA/Astronomy Tower - The books mention 5th Years witnessing Hagrid being attacked from the Astronomy Tower by members of the Ministry (I could be wrong), so the entire thing is inverted for that to happen. Also, the Chamber House from Durham Cathedral (where the Transfiguration lessons were filmed) is situated at the bottom of this tower since I couldn't plot the room anywhere else. The Lookout Tower - Remember that wide tower on the corner of the Quad, connected to the Stone Bridge? Given the description of Ravenclaw Tower, I personally think the DHp2 version of the Lookout Tower is where that is. With the exterior done, not much really changes on the interior except for the Grand/Marble Staircase. My headcanon would be that the Grand Staircase looks how they do from PS - HBP and they just stopped moving for the Battle, so extra steps were added to get around easier. Long? Yes. Imaginative? Yep. That's my dream Hogwarts. lol
For a lot of these, I didn't realize at all that they were supposed to be redesigns of existing places. I just thought the movies kept showing more and more rooms and courtyards of a presumably massive castle
I couldn’t image, the Hogwarts legacy team having the highest challenge trying to stay true to the HP fans considering the books ideas of the layout VS all the changes that happened during the films visually. Hats off to them for the coming to the end result. Great video!
My favorite model of hogwarts is the half-blood-prince model, it just feels very nice and polished off, except for one thing, the training grounds tower, it’s just a ripoff bell tower and it doesn’t have the as much magic, because it used to be a giant structure in the first movie, now it’s just a little tiny tower Edit: something you missed was the lookout tower, which I think only changed in the deathly hallows, to an open tower instead of a generic hogwarts tower
I always like to think that hogwarts was essentially a living entity and it constantly changing was due to it simply wanting to move around, finding the most convenient form for the students and staff to access places easier yet it always did it subtly as to not distract or scare anyone.
I cannot get enough of these Hogwarts videos! These are the best videos I've watched in ages. I'm so happy to see others like me! Regarding the entrance to the Gryffindor Common Room: I much prefer that they moved the entrance to the Grand Staircase in POS, but if you watch during the scene where the boys are eating the wild candy that makes Neville sound like an elephant, the camera zooms out of the boy's dormitory window and it's the tower to the right of the hospital wing when viewing the castle from the front. Why move the entrance directly off the staircase and then in the same movie make the dormitory all the way in that tower? I'm so flustered thinking about it again.
This is a bit of a niche interest, but one I very much share. It's such a good design, the films hit it out of the park with it, I think. Ideally they'd have used the HBP design from the beginning, but only the first 3 books were out when they designed the castle originally, I imagine. It's such a good design that even the games use it (even if it's not entirely obvious at first, like with PS/CoS PC). I have a similar (and 1000x more niche) interest in the Egg Carrier from Sonic Adventure. It's one of my favourite settings from a game, and it's used well to tell a story through gameplay.
Yeah if all the books had already been released then we probably would have got something closer to HBP at the beginning, true. It's definitely a fun topic even though it's niche hahah!
@@hogwartsexpert Niche things are usually the most fun! It attracts people who are properly interested/engaged, so you're rarely gonna get someone who doesn't pay attention. They did the best they could with the information they had, definitely. Hogwarts' design is fantastic.
The castle grounds change in Azkaban were very confusing for me at the time. They have gone from big courtyard-style garden into the woods with stonewalls to pretty mutch completly open, kinda mountainous terrain which leads to Hagrid, the woods, a massive lake and god knows. That was an extremly hard change, but i guess it couldnt be avoided as explained.
I always assumed that as a magical building it can change to accommodate whatever is needed. A bit like the TARDIS, each room stays but it can move location and new ones can be created.
The layout of my high school was a bit confusing because of the random arrangement of classrooms and signs that are outdated but imagine trying to work or study in a school that won't stay with the same layout for very long?
Its actually really surprising finally realizing all the changes made through out the movies especially with how a lot of these changes drastically alters the overall design of the entire castle.
My mental image of Hogwarts from the books was always much more blocky than the films. Hogwarts was one enormous building rather than a collection of towers separated by bridges. This was because of the way Rowling described the floors of the castle. At one point I read it had “seven floors” in line with her love of the number. Dumbledore warning students away from the third floor corridor in the first story is confusing in a castle with a dozen different towers. Be more specific Albus. Third floor of which tower?
Something I want to know in Legacy...Is there a room behind every window you see? or is there some space you can see from the outside you can't access from within?
I think there is a lot of empty space, particularly in the towers (there are only rooms on one side of the S-shaped corridor high up in the Grand Staircase tower, for instance). Some rooms may also be bigger on the inside than the outside.
I felt the core keep tower and the square castle it rises from are the most ancient parts of school. They stand on the rock separated from the mainland by that rocky ravine for safety. Later, when their safety was more assured, they expanded across the canyon with the stylish gothic Durham Cathedral structures connecting to it with bridges and added the lavish Great Hall on the edge of the lake's cliffs. You can see they created these two historical phases in the original model.

That's a good idea!
Immediately subscribed after your first Hogwarts Legacy video. I absolutely love your Hogwarts explanations and analyses. You're the only youtuber that explores the castle in-depth. Thank you so much for your amazing content. Very much looking forward to your next video and good luck with the subscriber goal!
Thanks, I really appreciate that!! Fingers crossed
Thanks!
I normally would be slightly annoyed with such changes to a major set in a movie series, but in terms of Harry Potter I find it actually fitting that the castle can be changed depending on specific needs and requirements for each year.
Yeah if you can get away with it in any movie it would be the one with the Magical school that’s almost sentient.
Well since i've watched all ur Hogwarts vids and liked them i will subscibe. Good luck with getting the 1000.
Glad you liked them, really appreciate that!
I could’ve watched an hour long version of this! It’s so fascinating! I always thought the castle changing every year was strange and annoying, but you’re right, they always got the vibe right
Amazing how I never noticed anything, but makes sense considering the scale of the castle, really feels like a big place.
Other little Easter Egg IMO is the fact that it’s the half-blood prince version of the castle that is still featured at WB studios in London. They new Diagon alley set is directly based on the one in the London studio tour as well-why we have a pink quidditch shop.
I went to Alnwick castle and I felt so proud going around all the locations where they filmed the scenes.
the small viaduct doesn't get replaced, they just add a long one to the entrance courtyard too.
The Astronomy tower is actually the Dada tower, they just rotate it! And add the new roof
Genuinely can’t believe that I didn’t notice this many changes as a kid 😂😭♥️ great video !
The only one I really noticed, and was bothered by, was moving Hagrid's hut and the Whomping Willow down a huge hill. That was glaringly obvious. The rest were more subtle or could fall under the "magical location" reasoning in my head 😂
Very very well made! Thank you for walking us through :D
This video is amazing! I’ve always been curious about all the Hogwarts changes and this video taught me so much about the castle’s layout that I didn’t know!
I hope your channel starts doing better! It’s a tough age to grow on this platform.
this was so well done thank you for this awesome content
Thanks!
Great recap...deserves a follow. I have subscribed.
On the first watch I notice some changes certainly, but the range of rearrangements is bewildering to see 🤭
Personally I just imagined Hogwarts to be so massive in size mostly, that the new parts and buildings and courtyards and so on were always there but never relevant until they were shown.
It’s really interesting to see how they’ve used some of these features and adaptations for hogwarts legacy too! Great video 😁
Great video! Loved it. Truly a Hogwarts Expert
I learned a lot and enjoyed this video, therefore I subscribed. :) Thank you.
Great video, Ben!! Whether or not you end up changing the title of your channel, I'll continue to be a loyal sub / viewer.
That's really nice, thanks!!
I love this so much.
And I love you for doing this.
Great job!
Half blood prince is the definitive hogwarts, it looks perfect. It’s what I wish we could have gotten in hogwarts legacy. There’s something really off about hogwarts legacy’s astronomy tower, it really should have been the tallest building on their model.
god I have been waiting for years for this video to arise in my recommendations
Very interesting video, well done!
I always looked at Hogwarts, being able to move, shift and change, similar to the room of requirement and how things are rebuilt. Great video.
I am impressed by your video! First time when I came across this changes was when I wanted to rearange my LEGO hogwarts probably
That was a video is was looking for! I’m not a huge fan of Harry Potter to be honest, but I have tons of respect for the movie production.
super fun and interesting video!
Amazing video thank you for making ❤
I love this channel dedicated to Hogwarts
I'd love to see you analyse the Lego Hogwarts microscale set that they released a few years ago, talking about how close they got it to the film version and which film version it best resembles
Hope your channel grows more
Awesome video!
@@hogwartsexpert yeah I noticed that, one of the many minor changes in the series. Luckily it worked for the film.
@@AustinNGrayson Perhaps you could name your channel after the cult horror film Castle Freak :)
super cool that Hogwarts Legacy both includes the chamber of reception together with entrance courtyard
As controversial as this may be, the DHp2 version of Hogwarts is my favourite, albiet my personal changes would be:
(DANGER: LONG AND OBNOXIOUS COMMENT)
1) The Viaduct - There are 2 of them; the old viaduct from PS to HBP, and the new one with a pathway leading to Hogsmede Station and perimeter walls so that it's not just a flawed defense mechanism for the plot convenience of DHp2. 🤣
The Training Grounds - While partially swallowed up by the hills, the CoS version of this area and its corresponding tower remain in my ideal Hogwarts, but with small gothic features to match the rest of the school (e.g., the turrets becoming more spiked).
Yep. That's my dream Hogwarts. lol
Great video, I've always been interested in Hogwarts.
The change in the Gryffindor entrance always intrigued me. Many of the others (except maybe the greenhouses and the viaduct) I missed entirely.
For a lot of these, I didn't realize at all that they were supposed to be redesigns of existing places. I just thought the movies kept showing more and more rooms and courtyards of a presumably massive castle
First time I saw Defense against dark Arts abbreviated to DADA and i fricking love it
2:47 I cant really tell from that floorplan, but in The Half-Blood Prince the greenhouses were inside?
I couldn’t image, the Hogwarts legacy team having the highest challenge trying to stay true to the HP fans considering the books ideas of the layout VS all the changes that happened during the films visually. Hats off to them for the coming to the end result.
Great video!
My favorite model of hogwarts is the half-blood-prince model, it just feels very nice and polished off, except for one thing, the training grounds tower, it’s just a ripoff bell tower and it doesn’t have the as much magic, because it used to be a giant structure in the first movie, now it’s just a little tiny tower
Edit: something you missed was the lookout tower, which I think only changed in the deathly hallows, to an open tower instead of a generic hogwarts tower
The chamber of reception was actually shown in the goblet of fire in the second task scene
When I revisited the books I could help but picture the castle from the movies in my head
I wish I could get a download for that model or prints of the blueprints
Did you call the 'Griffindor Common Room' 'Chamber of Secrets'?
6:01
I always like to think that hogwarts was essentially a living entity and it constantly changing
was due to it simply wanting to move around, finding the most convenient form for the students
and staff to access places easier yet it always did it subtly as to not distract or scare anyone.
You should do the changes Hogwarts went throughout the PS2 games, the interiors especially are wholly different from the movies
I looked into this once but I never realised the pc games were completely different than console and it all got super complicated 😂
@@hogwartsexpert Yeah, which is why it's better to stick to the console versions since they actually follow the movie external model lol
@@yrooxrksvi7142 that might be the way to go then! I'll have to credit you 😂
@@hogwartsexpert Hahaha Thanks
This makes so much more sense I was like where is the bridge from the final battle?????
Deek thinks you should be proud of all the potions you've brewed.
That long viaduct that was changed in deathly hallows will be my personal hell
during every summer break Dumbledore be like: "Hm why not change the layout of the castle, gotta make some use of that magic"
My head cannon is that Hogwarts as a magical castle changes each year to suit the needs of that years students/teachers.
What a great video
The Azkaban castle with the viaduct added in 7 and its perfect and the owlery from 4.
Since the castle is full of magic I always figured the castle sometimes remolded itself before the start of the school year
Its actually really surprising finally realizing all the changes made through out the movies especially with how a lot of these changes drastically alters the overall design of the entire castle.
4:05 I dubbed it the 'Wandering' Whomping Willow when i saw it had moved.
You can see they created these two historical phases in the original model.
maaaan! respect to you!:)
