his ability to question himself and the emotional idea behind his mixing moves makes this so inspiring!

yeah it's like jimi said.. fame just is a distraction... so is ego! harder to do if it's your own body of work though, but if you see enough guys like Michael here operate without ego, you then start to yourself, then I think you begin to wonder what the hell everyone is doing running around only focused on... really seems so wasteful on the otherside! I think the psychology of thinking about when to "turn it down" so the next part can sound bigger... it's difficult to do when A-Bing and you hear B sounds much more phat... or round, or pleasing... and A maybe smaller and less pleasing initially, but that makes the listeners satisfaction wait a minute... and that's called suspense!

The last time he says "ruff" and "me" you can clearly hear how he brightened things up. He made the bass clearer just by making the highs really clean and clear. It sounds way more distinct.

Rough was good but Brauer's mix was better in a lot of ways. His mix
definitely sounds like a record, has polish, more final sounding, ready
for the masses. Wow a pro mixer makes a huge difference no wonder I
    can't afford them!

The rough mix was just a bit muddy sounding. Final mIx it just sounded a lil cleaner and the high ends were able to shine more. Definitely would go with the FINAL mix.

yea cutting back on the low ends before the "drop" or the chorus rather in this case creates a more dynamic feel, like something bigger is happening. having a song be more linear or even undynamic can have its positives and charms too, i guess its just a matter of what you want to say with the song. what do you wanna communicate to the listener. more dynamic songs (like his mix example) seems to be the trend nowadays, while many older songs seem more stale or linear almost. the advancement of the technical part for gear is ofc a big reason for this too, things we can do now we simply couldnt do back then cus the gear wasn't around or evolved enough.
anyway cool video and great example!

I bet that this flat mix is mainly for mas media and average consumer.
So radios, shitty speakers, shitty headphones ect. as it will just sound fuller and louder.
While dynamic mix. Rly only that have quite good sounds system will be able to fully appreciate.

I notice sometimes I do a really quick rough mix but then start tweaking things and sure enough the certain parts that I thought sounded better in "rough mix" were gone. By then I cant seem to get it back to the way it sounded.

My vocal Performance was bad on my song but i liked it on the rough mix.
But i dont like to ad compression to a track i Mixed a bit before. I like to compress after i set levels but not after.i said levels and already compressed some things.

Agreed. He was just talking about the intro here and was explaining how he gives the music more feeling by tweaking the low end. Vocals had nothing to do with this. He could have just been starting the session and decided to leave the vocals for the end.
