I've watched this 100 times and the professionalism never ceases to amaze me. If you clean toilets, do it with this kind of expertise and you'll soon be known as a legend. Makes you want to work harder at anything you do
This has been my experience with Tony Maserati. I learned how to use multiband compression as an EQ from him. Just as game changing as this simple tip here. The man is a treasure trove of sensible and eye opening tips, not to mention a classy dude.
The Maserati VX1 is one of my most used plugins for recording vocals. I chain a CLA 2A behind it, or an Mjuc Jr, or CLA 76. Whatever the material calls for.
It's funny how 2 years ago I was watching these videos looking like crazy for hints of what he's doing in the screen, now I can just hear the load of knowledge he's dropping...barely looking at the phone 🙏🙏
Intrigued to see how he split the sections so clearly so the V and CH can be treated totally differently. Been struggling with a mix for a female vocalist I've never worked with before and all the reverbs kept disappearing in the CH. Rather than try to automate everything, I'm gonna split the sections and do fresh groups - I normally work with all the guitars like that and BVs but not the main vocal - cheers for the video!
MFGuitarStuff I assume you’re splitting the tracks with the signal still dry right? Any modulation type effects should be added after splitting, not before.
i needed this cause i am mixing my first song and have troubles with vocals and was thinking to spliting it into verse chorus and bridge... one version i even recorded the 3 parts with 3 different input levels.. testing and trying things out now that i know best of the best split things up as well i will feel more confident about doing that
mvh it shouldn’t create phase issues. I’ve never had that problem. I’d imagine you’d notice if it did and or you can always flip the phase and listen to it both ways. Trust your ears.
Can someone transcribe this youtube interview or subtitle it? I don't understand everything he's saying because I speak spanish but I want to learn about mixing
hi,I come from china,When I sign up for Mix With The Masters.com “Registration code does not exist”,Is there any way to solve it?Hope to support Alipay payment。Thank you
''oh yeah get a great vocal mix with a bit of compression eq and fx''.. Its THAT easy yeah.. You definitely dont need the best mic, best pre amp, into the best desk, in the best room, with the best engineers and all recording a fantastic vocalist.
hehe he said tenor is larger than alto sax. ? I don't think dude knows as much as he THINKS he knows! But okay, choruses are bigger in pop tunes a lot of times so... okay, put those vocals on separate track and treat them separately. Good idea rather than automating each chorus. so, we don't REALLY get to see how you mix these vocals... just some generic talking about roughing them in and a few plugin names. Sweet.
Ryan Rajagopal I have a copy of studio one 3 and Ableton live 9 and I have to agree with you after I purchased some new plugs I spent seven hours yesterday going through all my 64 bit plug-ins in ProTools 11 to find the one it didn't like but when I started studio one it scanned The plug-ins and highlighted in red which one wasn't jiving and removed it automatically so that it could boot I wish I would've done that first, LOL

the only engineer i know who wears a suit to mix a track..genius
you mean the others would wear a track suit?
Check out irko .. he’s been wearing dress shirt and bow ties for years lol
Yeah, italian origins...
Maybe he wore it for the video
I love that he looks like he’s going to file a lawsuit against me
loooooooooool
Ahahaha
🤣🤣
Wtf 😂😂😂😂
underrated comment
This man will press charges if you send him clipping stems
LOL
You're the George Clooney for mixers
He's the Maserati of engineers
The James Bond of mixing
I love it when Mr. Maserati takes his glasses off. In most videos that's when the gem is dropped.

Eh I’m good on being the legend of cleaning toilets but I see ur point
The polite way you describe his voice is something I can learn from ;)
I never thought about mixing the chorus and versus on different tracks, but now I will never not do it again. Incredible tip.

Blunt vocals are always challenging to work with! Facts!
First guy i've ever seen mixing in a suit! GOAT!
Tony Maserati together with Oliver Bentley and Franz Volkswagen are the best mixers out there now

Hard to tell what’s better, his mixes or his cars
feels like he got called in from a date to work on a mix
Tony Maserati: BF-76; Phil Tan: RCompressor. I'm ready to mix
I'm gonna start wearing a suit to the studio.
why don't you offer a one month option? $300 is a lot to spend at once but I don't mind dropping like $30 (25) a month
cuz this top of the top, they need to pay them well, it's worth it
Hi, is there (on mix with the master) some mixing tutorials with EDM music?
0kamiloss message me and I'll tell you something about mixing EDM
same
check out horizenrecords.com great sound and very reasonable rates
Everytime I watch a video of mr. Maserati I feel like Tony Montana is speaking to me..
"Those eyes chico, they never lie"
Thanks for the video!
ahhh, those PRO's tutorials.. all sounds already amazing ))
They should give them a crappy sounding recording to see how do they save that
they just ask for re-record or something ))
andivax if only that were the case!
this is exactly how i imagined Tony Maserati

I felt like my GP was giving me useful information during a check up.
I like the idea of seperating verse/chorus onto different tracks so I can treat them differently.. cheers for the tip!
I like the way he says the word "hook".
I love his vst copressor it is so warm.
I’ve never seen an engineer in a suit...ever
Now You have!!
Definitely one of my favorite ears in production. Cheers, Mr. Maserati. ;)👌

If I close my eyes it’s Mark Ruffalo talking mixing
I noticed he's applying eq to his parallel compression - does this create a phase issues? If so how does Tony deal with them? Thanks

This gentleman dresses so classy. That's the first step.
Why are the videos so short in this channel?

I want to mix on a tuxedo after this
He's very organized and detailed!! I mean he has too otherwise get lost... Am I right?
Yes,producers often forget about something they did a minute ago because that detail wasn't in the focus.
Fascinating. Love this.
What monitor is that?
I turned all the instruments up 5db. then I turned the vocal up 3db.
So you turned the vocal down 2db?
Go and learn about loudness and gain staging then come back
I don‘t know why I clicked this video, although it cleary has the words „James Blunt“ in the title.
Whats this song? I want to hear finished product
Plugins have sense only after vocal go thru great mic and preamp and what about the vocal going thru chp mic and only audio interface preamp ??

This is fascinating, but if I was to discover that Tony Maserati didn't drive a Maserati, I would be very disappointed!
I feel like he drives a Jag or an Aston Martin
He drives a 1997 volkswagen rabbit
really James, don't use the word 'beautiful' in the first sentence!!!!
Trying to recreate the past.
I couldnt work on this track. I would have to turn it down. Really. How much would I have to get paid to change my mind? Same as this guy!
Who knows the type of reverb he uses for the verse (around 2.45) ?? It sounds great!
UAD AMS RMX16, he uses it in every mix ( i've watched all his tutorials in mix with the masters ) lol
Awesome!
What do you do if the verse main melody involves switching from octave to another
I would personally have that on a separate track or maybe automate some of the parameters of EQ and compression.
Audio Genius
Thanks to Ronnie for finding you !
Mixing James Blunt vocals:
1. Slide fader down all the way.
2. That’s it.
3. You’re done.
4. Go home.
That was rather blunt!
@@rolandmatters1619 LOLOL!! Nicely done.

Got my hardware Cl1b this monday...butter😊
Wow I want that in my rack!
Morris Kramer it's amazing with just light compression (1-3db) on vocals. Just has that extra something that makes it sound like a record 😃
do you ever use that hardware compressor while recording vocals?

Really not a fan of James blunt’s quacky voice but this was very educational, thank you so much 😎🔸🤓

2 minutes in and we haven't actually done any mixing or tweaking, great lesson.
You have a million videos about that. The most important is the rationale behind the pro's decisions, not what knob they turn.

He is overly analytical. Just do what sounds good. It’s music. Not rocket science.
what's up with all the swag this guy has?
I saw the first guy who in the studio wearing suit jacket
It's not 8 hours job sometime you want be here 16 hours.
I WANT TO LEAN HOW TO USE MY Studio One FOR MIX PLZ CAN I GET CLASS'S ON THAT? I WILL LOVE TO KNOW HOW TO USE IT
James Blunt sings well,I just hate the Music behind his voice. I think this is why Maroon 5 or, the singer from the band is so successful.
Is that a mouse or a tiny crystal ball?!
Mixing James Blunt vocals in one easy step. Step 1: Turn the volume all the way down. Voila ! A thousand times better
I like my fades in my mix, not on my video. Thanks.
'Doesn't matter how much I EQ out the mids, there's still this annoying honking tone... oh that's the vocal'
Thanks for not jumping to Studio One (Yet)
Mark Furryz why? Studio One imo is much more efficient than. pt
