keep in mind this anime is FULL of flashbacks and call backs, so some return from "death" may be flash back or a use of a special power or ability. Not spoiling anything though ;) I really want to see you react to this series!! The episodes with characters fighting each other have a LOT of depth, so we really can't answer those questions without spoiling much, but just to share . . . No one has ever challenged Luffy as captain for real, his crew is currently 9 members, 10 if you include himself, the captain :) they are a family in many ways. Sometimes family members fight, but they are always there for one another.

Oda doesn't let anyone mess with his characters. It's known that even if he has people helping him draw, he wants to do everything related to the characters by himself, to express them exactly as he wants

The fact that one piece has so many well developed characters with unique, creative designs, specific character traits, specific character motivations, ideologies, based on their background, So many parallel storylines alongside its macro and micro plots, and So many unique different locations with distinct design, societies, people, architecture, geography, socioeconomic background, history, Natural phenomena, and their culture, technology evolved around these aspects of that location, .... , And so many different creatures, species, scifi stuff, creative powers, creative fighting techniques used, the powersystem,... And many more
And all of these are not the main brilliance of one piece.The fact that everything in one piece is interconnected, intertwined, with eachother, so seemlessly and one event will affect related people, locations on the otherside of the world, and there are multilayered connected ranging from immediate present plot connections to historical connections some going multiple centuries prior even...
The fact that everything in one piece is connected and nothing is out of place.
And the major beats of the story arevall pre-planned and established with foreshadowings way before (literally years/sometimes a decade before the plot point is revealed in real-time), and not only that but the mangaka Oda-sensei also adds his own creative designs, ideas into the story impromptu and on the fly many times yet it feels like it is pre-planned many years prior.
Whatever is written into the story either pre-planned or new idea will be included with at 2 or 3 different connections with already established world so far.
And the fact that no major character is forgotten and what's going on in their lives is shown from time to time, meaning the one piece world created is a living breathing world on it's own which mibes forward irrespective of our main characters influencing it.
And the side characters are so greatly written that one piece manga can go on for weeks or months at a stretch without showing single main character in the story yet the story being shown is equally interesting.
All of this makes one piece has the best world building in fiction ever....
And most of all the world building in one piece is a hype train which everyone likes to ride, but that's not even the best thing about one piece. People love one piece for its emotional weight, lovable characters, their relationships, the bond and interactions between them.... Feeling their emotions, deep themes that reflect real-life situations,
... That's what makes one piece great.
Even though one piece is a shonen manga, it is not about the fights and its more of a fantasy adventure epic which focuses on characters, themes, story, emotions, fun and adventure. Though that being said, the fights r not great choreography wise, but the fights are one of the best to portray to the fullest what they mean and bring out the emotional weight... And most of all they are fun to watch as well.
One piece does seem cartoonist and silly superficially but the depth of it is one of the best in fiction.
Also not all Pirate crews have just one ship. Some Pirate crews are strong or famous enough to recruit other Pirate crews as underlings. Imagine a 50 ship strong fleet of upper-class pirates. Luffy for example has thousands of allies across the world.
The answer to the questions of "Is that a [blank]? Did [blank] really just happen?" is almost always yes. Seeing the speculation is pretty fun too, some of it was actually pretty close.

Pretty sure the way oda keeps track of everything he's done is that he has a lot of notes and overall a really good memory. But I've watcher a walkthru of odas workplace and his desk was absolutely packed full of drawings and notes as well as having stuff on the walls. He also does have a whole team of editors
It's funny you mentioned writing a list of every character in the show. That's my goal +pictures as a video idea on another channel but I'm waiting for One Piece to end to make it worth it. Even without fillers, including only canon characters, a truly complete list is a lot, because almost every chapter adds more but I'm so proudly addicted that I recognize everything in One Piece! The wiki actually has a list and last I checked it's over 1300 but I have not checked in a while. And it will be a complex and spoilery list too because so many characters use aliases or have secret identities! Many are unnamed or complete mysteries, or long dead, or only mentioned and not shown, and many are animals and various creatures. In fact, the most recent chapter had a huge reveal, nothing stays the same!

There is a power system. Some people eat a devil fruit, they give up their ability to swim to gain a random ability (not random, people just dont keep records like that).
People who dont have the opportunity to get a rare devil fruit, can also train but their will to fight and live come into play. This is another power system and even people with devil fruit powers can have it, but not always.
The top people in the world have one or the other or both power systems. Being masters of both or one of them. There are also different races. Fishman, minks (animal people), giants, different versions of human (like 3 eyes, Triclops in fiction but this show say humans from the 3 eye tribe) among other races. Different races have different benefits and weaknesses. Do be aware this is not earth lol. Our rules don’t apply, well not all of them lol.

Everyone have power in One Piece, just that there are 3 different types of super power system in the show:
1. Devil fruit: a fruit that will give you super power if you eat it, but it is extremely rare for people to have it.
2. Haki: a power that that everyone can increase their durability and their observation extremely high that everyone can have if they train hard enough, can combine with martial arts and devil fruit power.
3. Blood line power: super power only belong to a specific race of human that is not normal human.
Forget about parrots , we still haven t met a pirate with an eyepatch

I will clarify, those people are dead, what you saw were flashbacks, theres only 2 characters whove come back from the dead, one had coming back 1 time as a superpower and the other was a retcon owing to the event of his death releasing late 2001 and being too thematically similar to 9/11
If you watch the first 100 episode of One Piece, I'm 100% sure you will continue to watch it until the ending (which we don't know when this story will be ended)

One Piece has it all, pirates, marine, rev army, fishman, mermaids, furries, dinosaur, gods, dragons, cyborg, robot, angels, giants, humans, and many more tribes. It also has many themes, like horror, sci-fi, disney arc, etc.
Literally the only anime that has made me say "The Disney arc is so fucking goated"
There are currently 1061 episodes and still ongoing, there’s still a Saga that has to come out after that. I think One Piece will end at around episode 1500 +/- , if author has more plans coming up the series might as well reach 2000s

This... might actually be the weirdest and best style of "recap" type of video I've ever seen if I'm being honest lol. It works so well with how One Piece's story is done.
The reason why some characters that don’t have powers or devil fruits in this case is because there is another power system called “Haki” there are three types of haki but I won’t go over all of them yet so you guys can watch it for yourselves because Haki will be at least be explained a little at episode 300-400 somewhere between that number but episode 500+ is where it will be explained fully as well as all the three types of Haki. Basically, if you’re a strong enough Haki user, you don’t even need Devil Fruits to become a powerful Pirate/Marine. 😂

I think you'll LOVE reacting to every music video from the One Piece film RED. There are 7 songs in total, one better than the other, each one having it's own animated video featuring UTA, the girl from the movie, each sharing context. All the songs are sang by ADO, probably the most famous singer in Japan right now, I young music prodigy (she has only 20 years old). Seriously, you should react. The first song is called New Genesis and they have a certain order to watch, but it doesn't really matter, so any order is OK! Have fun!

Also Devil Fruits are supernatural powers that are eaten by a person or animal. Other powers do exist other than Devil Fruits. All the elements of One Pieces power system can interact, counter act, and synergize often.

tbh One Piece is not as long as you might think it mostly because of how badly the anime is paced compare to the manga
since for example Bleach anime before TYBW have 203 canon eps for 542 chapter of manga content and that is with long recap and already badly paced
for One Piece case it is even worse with basically 1 chapter or sometime even less per eps so in reality One Piece is more like 400 eps if it was paced better
