You would have been down to 1, but the embercleaved steam-kin would have survived Storm's wrath and they would have won.
And yet in the play, they'd have traded a creature for all that damage. And leaving the blocker alive. But with the knowledge they had, they should have built a big steamkin instead since they see a wrath in the graveyard, there is a possibility for a rip off the top or one in the hand. Might as well make sure you have at least one creature alive after it.
He would've been in the minus, embercleave is double strike, the unblocked steamkin would've dealt another 4 damage. He had 3 left.
@@hunszaszist No, he would have been down to one. Either the Cav blocks 4 or the Cav blocks 6. Both Steam Kins were at 4 counters. 2 more dmg leaves him at 1 instead of 3.
@@hunszaszist Cleave on unblocked Steam Kin = 10dmg. Cleave on the blocked Steam kin = 4 trample damage and the unblocked Steam kin does another 4. So it's 10 dmg by Steam Kins or 8 dmg. The opponent chose the 8 and kill Cav.
@@DigitalHawk96 the opponent wouldn't even get the wrath since the cavalier didn't die
I'm a simple man. I see MonoRed and T3feri take a beating, I click like.
A merchant fan, I see you're a man of culture too.
I really enjoy the exit interviews with the deck at the end. Please keep doing them, I watch every video til the very end.
I love the fireside chats.
The most important step in the learning process for me has always been reflection and reevaluation, this is the content in the fireside chat and learning the nuances of the game is reason I love your content so much.
Risen Reef + Overgrowth Elemental + Chandra, Acolyte of Flame + Chandra's Regulator = RIP
Get 4 cards per turn, get 4 extra attackers per turn, 4 +1/+1 counters on Overgrowth at the end of turn along with 4 life. That's all just by activating Chandra. I have so much card draw that I had to add a Jace and have won quite a few games with self milling. I also run Creeping Trailblazer and Chandra, Novice Pyromancer to buff those extra Elementals.
It seems like a lot to have to get together in order for the combo to work, but it's somehow very consistent for me. Lots of fun.
This is the Elemental deck I prefer by FAR. If I'm playing a tribal I want to play a tribal deck. Uro and Agent just feel wrong to me. Plus when Ghidorah drops in next set it'll be even better.
I love thunderkin awakener. Too bad multani rotated out
@@yGKeKe I didn't get started in MTG until just before Theros came out, so I don't have all the cards or knowledge to make it optimal. It's my first real build that didn't just consult a deck from these kind of videos. Nothing above 4 mana, it has a bit of aggro offense and defense. Only removal is Omnath and Novice Pyro, so that's it's big weakness.
[Scorch Spitter] x4
[Chandra's Regulator] x2
[Leafkin Druid] x4
[Creeping Trailblazer] x4
[Cloudkin Seer] x4
[Chandra, Acolyte of Flame] x4
[Overgrowth Elemental] x4
[Risen Reef] x4
[Jace, Wielder of Mysteries] x1
[Chandra, Novice Pyromancer] x2
[Omnath, Locus of the Roil] x3
[U,R,G Basics] x6 each
[T. Epiphany] x2
[T. Abandon] x2
[T. Mystery] x2
(Scry Lands make Reefs ability better than Shock Lands)
CrackaCarpinda thats a whole different approach to the elementals. And it needs embercleave. :)
@@lostinsmoke fuck embercleave. Seriously elementals are great on their own
It's so therapeutic seeing the will of mono-red players get crushed
CGB is half of what's getting me through quarantine.
Love seeing those red decks fizzle out. It's cool how easy it is to gain info on your too deck with all the scry lands and draw monsters.
I can't believe how much content you make! I just finished watching the video you put out on cgb gaming, and then I see this came out! It's incredible!
A wild Sacdos appears.
Me: "Brother?"
Casts Slaughter-Priest.
Me: "Son?"
Misses easy lethal.
Me: Disowned.
MTG Duels is what got me really into the game. That and the XBox 360 game Magic 2014
This deck is so much fun! Thanks for sharing CGB!
Crokeyz was also messing around with Hero of Precinct One/Incubation in a bant ramp shell. those were fun games!
Here for more instruction at the feet of CGB! Teach me, I am a sponge.
Ditto
Excited! Been watching lots of elemental decks lately
Just finished the video! I will never tire of watching Thassa do her thing
Really interesting deck. Great analysis of the meta too
I loved that last game. So great. Way cool deck!!
Nice way to add to the running day totals CGB
It's satisfying to see the mono-red beat downs but I still have so much agent of treachery PTSD.
True masterpiece!!! Watched it 7 times so far! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Literally impossible, but okay.
Necromancy For Kids 😭 why hater me? 😭
I have been running a deck almost identical to this since theros dropped. You definitely play it better. Good stuff.
The first match was an epic comeback! Elementals rule.
really fun watching you handle red mages in ranked
Great video!
I'm thinking the cat-oven opponent (around 15 minutes) was trying to slow play the interaction so that if you board wiped, his oven wasn't tapped and he could still have both cat and oven. IE once you've assembled the combo, you're apt to protect it. The trade off being the opportunity to frontload more damage, which we see him take on the second turn.
I run a fires of invention version of this deck with cav of flames and chandra instead of the Thassa agent combo. It's actually pretty competitive Ive found
I had to play Circuitous Route with this deck. I know it's slow but the Mana costs get complicated when you need 3 forests for the Cavalier of Thorns (I also run both of the other Cavaliers in red and blue). Also the benefit of putting another card in graveyard for Uro to eat up is nice.
8:35 They did not miss lethal; you would've had 1 life, but they let you get storm's wrath, which was a misplay.
you beautiful bastard. i was about to do literally anything else till you uploaded.
I've been burned too many times by having unplayable Legendaries in my hand, especially expensive ones, so I dropped an Uro, Omnath and 2 Cavs, replaced them with 3 Healer of the Glades and a single Quasiduplicate. I'm not a huge fan of the green cavalier in general, but that could be bias because I only have 1 and want to save my WCs...
The amount of RDW beat in this video was very satisfying
That was good stuff
Just in time mr.CGB
Looked this up after I got destroyed by thunderkin risen scorchers and a big Chandra after which my Nissa got stolen.
Needless to say, this isn't what I had in mind but looks almost cooler, I like running Wrath to insure myself against, well, what I was playing.
Storm's Wrath is a pretty good addition to this deck.
Could you do a Haunt or Hightower deck? I believe it would be incredible.
Hey CGB, I've been thinking of making an Abzan deck focused on big tokens. I was thinking 4x Ethereal Absolution, 4x Garrick Cursed Huntsman for his ultimate, a bunch of removal like Kaya's wrath / Oath of Kaya / mortify and stuff like paradise druid to get there faster. Will this play out well or is it too weak?
ChromiteHertz I’m no CGB but as long as you have a few more token makers and a Teysa Karlov it sounds solid 👌🏻. That’s just my two cents
Good ol'elementals! Love the deck.
I'm trying elementals again but with tassa's oracle or jace to just mill myself with the reef and cavalier lmao
Would be willing to adapt this list for historic
first match steal the cav.
attack 4 attackers including the cav.
embercleave the steamkin
5 from cav 2 from scorch 1 from fervent 10 from embercleave steamkin
total damage = 18 damage life was at 14
Cav has cmc 5, Claim only targets creatures with cmc 3 or less (for example, Uro).
I also put Yarok into my elemental decks.
yarok and blood for bones
I was hoping this would be Omnath Cannon
Elementals are getting competitiv with the next set. And thasssa
I like the aggro variant the best out of all the elemental decks right now. This one seems a bit weird to play, especially considering the fact that you're sort of relying on thassa to boost Omnath's value.
You asked us to do math for mono red? I thought math was for blockers!
why does every single elemental deck have agent of treachery on it
It's a strong card to ramp into.
Can you make a nasty deck with Thassa and Mirror March in it?
Stayed to the end
I tried to convince Crokeyz to use the Wrath in this deck, manly to kill Narzet and Teferi, it works very well in my experience
They did have lethal. Following turn at least if they'd played embercleave on the other steam kin. 🤷🏻♂️
I love temur elementals
I don't really like playing this deck. I'm not entirely sure why. But bloody hell is it effective. I've gone up two tiers today.
As an aside, does anyone actually win using Agent of Treachery or do your opponents all quit too? (Mostly on the first one, but certainly on the second one).
How to make any player in magic immediately rage quit
Step 1 put an agent of treachery on the battlefield
Step 2 put thassa deep dwelling on the battlefield
Step 3- win everytime
To be honest I really like this deck.
i kinda miss magic duels >
Hello there
I actually enjoy a lot more playing against embercleave than the agent. I don't mind instant quitting when my opponent play an agent just to deny him the right to play it.
I feel like elementals and gates are the two old decks that have no right to still be good.
CGB, your outro sounds like an alarm clock. Do you think you can change it up?
Oh come on man..."its not elementals deck without agent!"
8:18 No, according to my math you would've been at 1 life if the didn't take out your CoT.
First opponent definitely missed lethal
While I like the updates on the video/social distancing streak, I miss the funny Easter eggs from before
Edit: Oh, I just got to the end and now there's something in the search bar for the post-match huddle. Nice!
This deck is probably my favorite in standard nowadays
Hello earlings
6:22 he had exactly lethal if he put it on the other steamkin
Nope. Still only 12 damage, leaving CGB at 1 (still the right choice though). CGB was at 14 before the attack. The Spitter brought him down to 13. 10+1+1= 12 damage.
Thassa and Agent ... that is even worse than cat / oven. So boring. Anyways, I love your junky decks :-)
thank god red mages are not allways the smartest think they had a nearly 100% win if they simnply cleaved any other of their creatures
fake victory vs mono red first match. the opponet put the emberclave for kill cavalier of thorn and not on your face. So you can take Storm of wraith and win . The oppenent let win you , very strange......
Hah
Mono red player reminds me of those spoiled children who throw a tantrum when we say "no" to them. That piss me off
I mean the matchups are great, but why some plays are just eh. My comment is eh, but you did a good job,but the rest idk what you’re doing
What the fuck is this game...
Honestly, anytime I go to play ranked or standard events its 75% mono red, 15% control and 10% misc decks. Seriously, if you net deck the mono-red deck you are a sad sad MTG player. 0 skill, 0 creativity, 0 style 0 respect. You can misplay all day and still win most of the games its embarrassing. On the flip-side I love crushing those mono-red dummies in the current standard, so keep playing ;).
This deck plays Thassa + Agent - just broken and a bad mistake by WOTC, it's unfair and shouldn't be supported. i like your channel but this one won't get any credit ...
Bruh, just use banishing light or something
@@yGKeKe forgot about that one, sorry, but you should only use it if you're planning to bring something back with ch3
@@God-ch8lq I didn't say there's no answer - but this combo oftentimes just needs one or two turns to ruin the game completely. Thassa herself already is incredibly strong even with weak ETB effects.
@@yGKeKe Using what mana? The 2 lands your opponent just stole?
