As a massive fan of Kitana, it kinda hurts that she's considered low tier in this game by a lot of people 😕 but at one point it's okay I guess

She’s my last character I had to play before I could say I’ve played every single character to. Recent degree online and I’m using her with goro and she gets such crap damage. Meter don’t even really benefit her.

Always for better or worse a Kitana main. She has been my main lady in the Netherealm era. I think she is hella fun, but damn opening up characters can be such a chore. I FEAR if Johnny, Reiko, Baraka, Shao, and Kung Lao is up close because I can get mashed out ALL THE TIME. It's annoying. I wish she could open people up more and have air fan combo extension. I wish Fan Flutter would return and Low Fan toss. That's all I need from my main lady.
I’m a kitana main too I fear 2 of them. I can win sometimes against Johnny and Shao, but Reiko and Kung Lao is what I fear the most. I also miss that Low fan too.

Kitanas enhanced close fan toss is great for extending pressure actually! Its +2 on block and hits delayed so if the opponent goes for a punish you get a full combo and if not you can either grab or keep attacking
Just make sure to do it at the end of a string
I just reached elder god.. that will not work when you start playing better opponents.

One thing you missed about Fancy Flick (down back 3) is that it can be a trap. If you meter burn it will stay on screen even if Kitana is hit. So you can apply pressure, special cancel into the close version, if the opponent tries to punish you can verse the situation and hit them for a full combo. It catches most but there is counter play if the opponent is familiar or reacts in time.
I use that all the time but there is a reversal, if your opponent jumps to your other side before it hits you’re open for a full combo
I've been rewatching this a number of times to really get the hang of Kitana, and it's been very helpful, so thanks for this.
Got some interesting things I didnt see in this video about Kitana.
1. Kitana's Back > forward > square (ex) stay's on screen even after getting hit. So you could do a combo, pop this with the close version. Opponent presses a button? They get hit. They block? You can apply pressure.
2. With her down, back, X (ex). Same story as the above. It doesnt dissapear after being hit. Use it as bait or to keep pressuring or extend combos
3. When Kitana does her down, back, square. Or her down, back X (normal version), it dissapears when you get hit.
4. Kitana's windbomb, back, down, forward, circle is great to have on the screen when you knockdown an enemy. This gives you a lot of control on the screen for pressuring or zoning and if your lucky and it hits, a free (air) combo.
5. Kitana's windbomb can be annoying AF when the opponent is in the corner. In example: Do a combo and end with her down, back, square or a cameo (I use Jax). Drop a windbomb ASAP, time a grab when your opponent gets up, grab hits, bomb activates, you get a free corner combo. If you can do this consistantly its cancer to deal with. Its unblockable BUT requires precise timing.
6. For al them Kitana mains. Look up "Retrhoe aka Jennytailuh" (best Kitana i've seen so far, by far). Learned a lot from this one. Plus he showcases the above in a tournament run or ranked matches :)
7. Kitana has to make up for her lack of good low/overhead starters/combos with technique and mindgames.

The 5 buffs kitana needs are as follows 1) change her forward 12 to hit mid overhead overhead 11 frame start up. 2) reduce wind bomb start up from 45/54 to 30 and have it hit low. 3) fancy flick should hit overhead not mid and not disappear if hit. 4) back 3 back 2 needs to be faster on start up. 5)fatal blow needs to be faster on start up.

Why would a character ever need 4 different overheads some of them being special cancelable? Most characters have 2, and some can use a kameo to combo like shao w/motaro or lao but this is broken 😂

@@avis7940Absolutely not. Let's be fair: In MK11 Jade, Jacqui, Cetrion, Sindel, Frost, and though she wasn't playable, Kronika were the biggest headaches to play against. MK11 was literally a feminist game. They designed the game so that it could be neutral heavy and certain tools were required in order for you to have a higher chance at winning. Nobody has more of these tools consistently like the female characters who could easily zone you out, out space you, Counter you, and play from full screen. You had male "Beat you up" characters like Jax, Kotal, and Shao Kahn who didn't stand a chance against female characters because they had no means of matching their abilities to cover the screen.

I think Kitana is ok, she's just harder to use than others. My personal gripe is her air fan not being able to extend combos, and her ex regular fan toss is pretty useless, unlike mk9 where it jailed after strings for plus frames and pressure. Also looked very similar to the non ex version but the second fan that came out was a sneaky mid so it could hit people and catch them off guard. Her ex fan just sucks now. And she should be able to special cancel the end of her 112 string. Other than that she's fine.
The one thing missing for Kitana is an Overhead attack most people punish or just block your strings, cameos that provide overhead attacks aren’t always too reliable and have A meter so An overhead attack would allow for actual mixups for kitana. Currently you have to hope your opponent stops blocking, Try to throw, Or Use A cameo like Striker/ Lao to keep your turn but Kitana struggles without that overhead as most the MK1 cast has one.
Remembering what Max said about each character having specific weaknesses, Kitana definitely gets a lot more rewards with a specific kameo. I remember when Super streamed the beta, he fought against a really good Kitana player and I swear the ground bounce could've been followed up with a dash in. Still, I really think they need to buff her metered fan toss or at least make her fatal blow aimable for a close in or distance range to make it feel more threatening. That being said, Kitana is going to benefit the most from characters like Scorpion, Subzero, Frost, Goro, Motaro, even Stryker.

I’ve been getting back into mk recently and I’ve been loving your vids keep up the good work man
I’m not a competitive player so I don’t care much about tiers. I play what I like regardless of damage potential or how long their combos can go. I absolutely love Kitana. The weird arching of so many of her special attacks creates a lot of unique versatility and a wide array of play styles. It took me a minute to get the hang of her, but now she’s my favorite character without a doubt.
I would give her a teleport on db1 'ampl' tha would be great buff for kitana
....just down block the whole match. Girl has 1 overhead attack and it's not even listed in the attack moves 🙄

@@Kdawg4859like literally everyone in the game can do. The problem is that your playing rock paper scissors with only rock and paper. Grab for like 130 damage while you lose the game if you miss 3 blocks
If anything, Kitanas in ranked use kameos for combo extensions, or else Jax himself. They don’t really go for combo mixups because it’s not as effective. To start a combo, we poke the opponent with enhanced ranged, or change our combo inputs. Honestly I can never play Kitana with mix ups safe enough, she isn’t getting anywhere enough without an actual good mix up… 😕
I’m a Mk noob but she still is someone I’d like to learn after Mileena. Something satisfying about her combos
I'm a kitana main, my combos strings are great my only issue with her is I can't apply pressure up close all my moves are too slow to compete with the other fighters. Sucks cuz I really enjoy playing kitana but I need more mixups at my disposal

@@samislam6842 I found a way to make up for it by adding a wind bomb or fancy flick extended(close)after my b34 I also use scorp forward kameo for an overhead but mid range is still best for kitana. And a quick back dash after they block my standing 1 or 2 sets me up perfectly for a kombo punish. Hope this helps you out
8:07 - The Comeback string, when the fan goes in the air, it should hit the opponent if they jump over Kitana. I have so many videos where the fan just goes through the character model as if it didn’t hit them 😢

I was just about to comment and ask for a kitana guide and this helped a lot like your mileena one thank you so much but I don’t think kitana is one of the if not the weakest character in this game I still love her tho
You missed the meter burn fancy flick stays active if she’s hit when she meter burns. I love deliberately making myself vulnerable on a string and cancelling into it as bait.
Not always the best option, but it’s fun mix and my favorite use of meter on her.
She isnt BAD... but MKX Kitana will always be the best man....Ive always been a Kitana main but shes so hard to get into in this game. I love her though.
scorpion to me is my go to kameo thanks to his over head strike for mix ups & his fire ball juggles
As a Kitana main, I would say she is decent, but she needs the assistance of a good kameo. Some characters, ( Baraka, Johnny Cage ) don't have to rely on a kameo. Their toolkit is strong. I wish the team that works on the game had more of an attitude towards it like they did now thirty years ago. Show some damn skin. I don't want Kitana fighting ina two piece string bakini, but she doesn't need to be in a tight jumpsuit from head to toe either ....

I think they do a pretty good job of making the characters balanced. And honestly Mileena is the only one I could see them targeting for malicious nerf because of her toxic fan base.

This just my opinion but I love the way she is now you could use a little bit of a tweak but she is fine
B14 is positive on block into B24 or B34. If they get hit just dash once and repeat. Watch out for low kick or just use stryker ;)
And B2 and B3 are good to go into DB3 with no directional input to get 20 frames on block or to use enhanced to start the combo
With fancy flick full screen, i can get 40% damage with scorpion kameo. When they get suspended in the air u can dash in and jump attack them into a combo. It’s a pretty good move!!1
You hit with a fan before you use the fatal blow damage is decent not to bad after a few combos with last hit being one of the fan special moves
As a Kitana main I appreciate this. She’s significantly weaker in this game than I think any of the previous MK games and probably the worst character in this game, but I still love her and only play as her in ranked.

kitana is still ass but ex db3 is actually one of her best moves, the fan doesn’t go away on hit so you can get umblockable set ups with jax mid screen
Not sure why nrs gave kitana a move from her mk11 kit that I’ve never seen anyone uses as the meter burn fan toss…

Ignore anyone who tells you to end her combos with her DF2. The frame data on hit is so god awful that doing it at the end of a semi long combo will leave you negative enough to be punished.

Honestly kitana and rain have the same issue, they can be so much better. I just hope they get some good buffs. Kitana for me was the best she ever had been in MKX and I wish she would play similar to that. The biggest change I would hope they make is to allow her air fan toss to combo, she kind of got the same treatment she had in mk11. She’s also so unsafe on a lot of her special moves and some of her combo strings so she needs to have more pressure.
Well as bad as she appears on paper she sure kicks ass when you run into a good Kitana player. I would rate her mid tier at least.
At pro level yeah she may suck, but online in Kombat league she slaps.
Pair her with Kung Lao or Motaro and she is way more lethal than Mileena, Tanya and Skorpion
She has alot of useles strings and she has no pressure at all, im a day 1 Kitana and elder now and she is ok but its a pain

@@samislam6842 Yes! Because if you’re fighting at close distance, your opponent only has to block low and never worry about above. And and soon as you’re done with a combo and it’s being blocked, BOOM! You’re in trouble. And then people wonder why I zone.
Think she was simply outshined by what everyone else can do. I still think this is the most Balanced a MK game has been on release. Sure their are things players find that are BS but it wouldn’t be a fighting game with a little bs lol

Is Motaro a good kameo for Katana? Fatal blow can be quickened with him, and wind traps and teleports sound pretty fun.

one thing i dont get with kitana is how she is not queen. mileena felt really force just for fans or something. tbh mileena is a freak why would she be queen crazy to me.
She's the queen because she's the eldest sister. Just because someone's physically or mentally ill doesn't immediately make them unworthy of their position, especially if she can easily revert back with medicine.
