    I love my albrecht druhers and got my first open stock whilst doing an art course while pregnant with my first child. I had never ever used them activate. My yellow is half a pencil as my son wanted a poster of big bird & I could get one. I added to my collection that has travelled with me on my trip around Australia, still inactivated. I have still got those 35 year old albrecht druhers but treated myself (after much saving) to the 120 set of albrecht druhers & all 100 Derwent lightfast & the 100 set of luminance pencils for last Xmas. All bought from the uk shop cult pens. You have inspired me to use my beloved pens. I won’t be getting such an ultimate set of pencils this year as I am crashing my stash. Your pictures are awesome and since the beginning pictures to the newest pieces from Rita Berman shows how far you have come in your journey and you have most certainly have your own style in your art. Much love & *virtual hugs* xxx❤

    I’m new and haven’t heard of a lot of these methods - I’d LOVE a video about how you do these backgrounds. I have yet to work on a background, because I just don’t know what to do.

    • @nicole_silvers
      @nicole_silvers 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In my opinion, the easiest way that I have found for doing backgrounds is using the soft pastels. They're kinda like colored chalk and there's many tutorials for how to use them. I bought the Mungyo set with over 60 colors and it was only about $12 on Amazon! And I also got a workable fixative spray, it comes in a can like spray paint, and you do your background first, then spray it with workable fixative to seal it in and prevent transfer or smudging, let it FULLY dry, and then you can color the rest of your page. It has to be workable fixative though, that way you can still color the rest of your page. Or you can do the background last and then spray it with fixative, it's whatever works best for you. That's a cheaper option. But there are a lot of other options if your budget allows for it. I like the Faber Castell gelatos too! I got a small set of iridescent ones and they were originally $25 but I got them on sale for half price. The more expensive options are things like the Neocolor ll, distress inks, or pan pastels. I also recommend acrylic paints. There are so many options but I hope this helps give you an idea!

      @@nicole_silvers oh thanks so much! I’ve actually had those pastels before for another project before I was coloring and they’re so bright! I’ll have to watch more tutorials to see how to get it into the nooks and crannies. I’ll look into the others you mentioned too! Thanks again!

    • @nicole_silvers
      @nicole_silvers 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@So_salty You're very welcome! There really isn't a right or wrong way to get into the small spaces, it's whatever works best for you. I got some sponges with a handle and also some that look like an eyeshadow applicator but the end feels like rubber. I know there's a name for that but I can't think of it in the moment lol! But anyway, I got them on Temu for like maybe a dollar each, and some were even cheaper. And I can't remember if I mentioned this before but I also like using the water soluble gel sticks. I have the full set of the KingArt gel sticks and they're not too bad. I don't recommend coloring directly on your page with them because when you go over it with a waterbrush or wet paint brush, you will see lines. They don't dissolve as well as the Caran d'Ache Neocolor 2. I just put some of the gel stick on a palette and get some on my waterbrush from the palette, kinda like watercolor painting. Or if I want more bold, vibrant colors I will rub my waterbrush directly onto the tip of the gel stick.

    Hi, I have only just discovered your channel when it popped up on my YT. I love the bold bright colours you use. I too started proper colouring i 2020 and I love looking at how other's colour their pages. I live in Australia and have to buy the majority of colouring books on Amazon, as most stores only sell a few artists books. Watching channels like yours give me an idea of what books I would like to buy and I love the ideas of other's ways of colouring. Thank you so much, I am enjoying going back and checking out your previous videos. I have only one Maria Trolle book and as much as I thought I would love it have had a lot of trouble colouring it. The book is Luna, and you have give me inspiration to keep trying. Thanks again Vicki x

      Hi Vicki, thank you so much. I am so glad you like my bright colouring style and mostly I am happy to hear that I have inspired you to keep trying with Maria Trolle's books. Sometimes it takes me time to learn how to colour in different illustrator's styles - e.g. I LOVE Eric's artwork, but I feel I still need to find my style of colouring her pages. Keep trying, and hopefully you will enjoy Maria's books more.
      Thank you for taking the time to watch my videos 🤩💗

      Yes, waterbased markers definitely streak too. But once you colour over them with pencils, you can cover it up and get a good result 🤗

    • @linnamorgan2215
      @linnamorgan2215 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this comment is a year old, and you might have already figured it out but - alcohol markers are always gonna streak if you don't use them on the correct paper, that allows them to stay wet for longer, thus allowing you to put the base color down seamlessly. Regular Paper soaks up the marker too quickly, drying it out very fast, which then translates into streakiness if you're not quick enough.

    This was great to see all the different ways you experiment with your Tombows and water color pencils. I just purchased Ohuhu waterbased markers and would love to see the techniques you used in your color books. FYI: Coloring With K has a video about Satin Glazing Liquid which she prefers over gesso because of its smoother finish. She used various water based media with it including her Tombows.

      Thank you so much!! I have some videos up where I have used the Tombows and pencils. And I will have more coming up for sure!

    • @clairewalters8238
      @clairewalters8238 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use Golden satin glassing liquid. I got the Daniel Smith translucent gesso but it made the page so textured that I couldn’t use all the different mediums I wished to use. The Golden satin glazing liquid was made to add to acrylic paints to slow the drying time of the paint but it works on cheaper paper so you can use wet mediums and it doesn’t grate your pencil lead. I have used it a lot and not made a dent in the amount of glazing liquid. It leaves you with a smooth base after painting the page equally and dries overnight. I usually do more than one page as it saves time and although it looks white over the page, it dries clear. I also only use one layer as I don’t think it needs two layers to make using water mediums a breeze. I wouldn’t go back to any other gesso now I have found Goldenseal Satin Glazing Liquid. Much love & *virtual hugs* from the land down under xxx❤

    Beautiful works my Dear!!! Do you have a video doing soft pastels for the background? So when you're knocking off the grit from the gesso, have you tried going in circular motion? Happy to have found you! I am halfway through this video and distracted by a sale of Faber Castell pencils. I am considering purchasing the 60 pencil set FC Polys or the Albrecht Duers...and keep going back and forth, any thoughts as to the pros of one over the other? Also so excited to see you using Tombows. I wasn't sure how this paper would react. I am having a challenging time finding a pencil brand for Rita's books, I have so many of them!! It seems that you are very successful with the Albrecht Duers?

    • @shelscolouringjourney
      @shelscolouringjourney  ปีที่แล้ว

      So glad you found me too! Thanks for taking the time to watch.
      I mostly use my Albrecht Durers for all my pages....I think they work great in Rita Berman's books. I have heard that Polys work well too and Black Widows as well. Because I bought the ADs first, I never found the need to buy the Polys as I didn't think they offered me anything more than the ADs. I guess the main thing with ADs is that they are waterbased, so if you want to use water on any other part of your page, you have to be quite careful not to smudge your pencils! But that comes with practice and planning. Hope you this helps 🤗💗

      I usually tend to start with the backgrounds or large elements on a page so that everything becomes a little easier to see (especially on a detailed page). I then work pretty randomly, choosing elements that I for sure know what colour I want to do and slowly I start to see the page come together and see what other colours I need to use on the page.
