- Dark Souls III is an action role-playing game set in a third-person perspective. According to director Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game's gameplay design "follows closely from Dark Souls II". Players are equipped with a variety of weapons including shortbows, explosives like fire bombs, greatswords and dual-wielding swords to fight against enemies, and shields that can be used to deflect an enemies' attack and protect the player from suffering damage. In addition, attacks can be evaded through dodge-rolling. Bonfires, which serve as checkpoints, also return from previous installments.
Ashes, according to Miyazaki, will play an important role in the game. Magic is also featured in the game. Each attack has two different styles. One of them is standard attack, while another provides power-ups to players, and is slightly more powerful. When performing miracles and spells, the players' magic points are consumed and decreased. In order to refilled these points, they need to consume Ash Estus Flask. There are two different Estus Flasks in the game. One of them can help refill magic points, while another refill hit points. Combat and movements were made faster and more fluid in Dark Souls III. Several players' movements, such as backstepping and swinging heavy weapons, can be performed more rapidly, allowing players to deal more damage in a short period of time.
Throughout the game, players encounter different types of enemies, each with different behaviors. Some of them change their combat pattern during battles. New combat features are introduced in Dark Souls III, including "Ready Stance", which are special abilities for players that allow them to deal much more damage to enemies than ordinary attacks are capable of. Small gravestones are also introduced. These gravestones light up when interacted with and not only serve as players' torches, but also provide additional lore to the game.
The game puts more focus on role-playing, in which the character builder is expanded and weapons are improved to provide more tactical options to players. The game features fewer maps than its predecessor Dark Souls II, but levels were interconnected and were made larger, which encourages exploration. The agility stat from Dark Souls II was removed from Dark Souls III. The game also features multiplayer elements, like the previous games in the series.

I killed this boss yesterday and it took me several attemps, the greatest enemy by far was the camera.

Namjala Latak year also first timed him blind as a new player. He is so easy I hit him from the back and roll in front of him. I did this without phantom and ember lol with butcher knife 2 handed
I found that if you can lure the Demon up to the mimic and make it attack it. the mimic and demon begin fighting each other. What's scary is that if the mimic starts it's spinning kick, it can stun-lock the demon and take it down quickly
That spinning kick is f**king hilarious!

Happened for me too the demon just managed to survive with 5 HP and I just gently finished the good work of Mimic on him lol :)
If you fire an arrow at the mimic and go back to the ladder after confirming it's running itll go straight for the demon and then stand at the top of the stairs and grab some popcorn lol
That's exactly what happened when I just ran this. The mimic killed the demon easily.
I like how he just casually has a conversation with the viewer as he proceeds to absolutely destroy a giant fire demon with a cleaver the size of a motorcycle
Note: White eyes means the enemy will revive once

Yeah, but in fights where you're killing multiple enemies sometimes that's difficult to keep track of.

the mini-boss gets fucked up by that mimic..
They must have patched it..
it makes no sense that a mimic can kill that gargantuan demon.
Even if the mimic is fast and the demon cant hit him , it makes zero sense.
In a realistic scenario ( where demons and mimics exist), one swing to the ground will destroy the mimic
I doubt it. I tried it today and the mimic beat the shit out of the demon without even losing any health.

You can actually get the balista to kill the worm, and you still get the drops & souls.
Same with the skeleton group below the demon, they aggro eachother.
Also, the Astora ultragreatsword is good early on. It's light weight & thrust reks.

When you call down the hole, in the last hallway before the stairs turn left and hit the wall, it’s a black knight guarding a black knight sword
Also you can use the ballista to shoot and kill the worm .. run before the boss behind the worm and the ballista will be firing at you but hitting the worm, the ballista won't be able to hit you because of a small hill that gives you protection.
+FiGhTiNCoWBoY There's a little depression on the beach behind the worm that's perfectly in line with the ballista. It'll keep shooting at you but hit the ground right in front of you once you find the right spot. It'll eventually kill the worm.

This worked for me. Good thing I read this before losing my temper because of the ballista and worm.
I found that the Dark Sword when infused with a heavy gem is insane, even after the nerf! Getting it up to +7 is easy enough at this stage in the game and you can just take most bosses out with ease as it has A strength scaling and it's just so fast!
So the scaling improves as you level it up? I didn't know that. I'm new to Dark Souls.

Me too, they actually killed the demon for me and I rewarded them by killin them back
the fire mini boss can easily be cheesed in 2 ways. One is where you let the boss agro the mimic and they'll fight each other. Mimic should leave the boss at 30%ish percent health. second one is easier where you just aggro the boss back up the stairs to the entrance and when he loses aggro on you he slowly walks back to his starting location. During this time you can land a lot of hits. rinse and repeat for easy cheese :D

I don't like names yeah that happens sometimes, but usually the mimic will take out a huge chunk of the demon's health. I've even seen the mimic kill the Demon once.
If you lure him down into the lower area skeletons will keep him busy

Also a little note, for that boss fight you can have 2 summons not just 1. Knight Slayer Tsorig's summon sign is in the bonfire room, in one of the corners.

PSA: If someone tells you that demon at the very beginning of the area "won't come into the hallway or up the stairs". THEY ARE LYING. That is a strong independent demon who does what it wants. Bait it into fighting the mimic but BE CAREFUL. It won't just spit fire. It'll come up into the hallway if you try to doorway snipe it.

6 years late, but I’m sure others are watching this walkthrough still. Just so you know, the only skeletons that get back up after killing them are the ones with glowing white eyes. They die after the second time you kill them, when their eyes stop glowing. They are similar to those enemies in sekiro (can’t remember their names), the ones in the beginning of the abandoned dungeon, and ashina depths.

This helped me out a lot. I couldn't figure out what to do after beating Yhorm, so I went looking for guides and sure enough my favorite cowboy has a DS3 walkthrough. I would have never thought to smack the bridge and climb down. Thank you for showing me there was more to those annoying catacombs. * Notes of sarcasm * I love it. Lol
24:30. "Did you just...kick me???". You can hear the anger/confusion in cowboy's voice... Getting booted by a basic bitch enemy is just insulting to him, hahaaa
Tips: You can know if a chest is a mimic by seeing the chain, If the chain is just a nearly complete circle it is a chest, But if it has a different looking chain to a nearly complete circle, then its a mimic.
Another Tip: If you use a Undead Hunter Charm on a mimic its mouth will open up and you can get the item without fighting. (When you do it will take like 4 sec for the item to appear) Also when you did take the item but did not kill it, It wont drop the item as you already took it, But you can fight for some souls.
You can also get the Undead Hunter Charms by the hand maid when you give her the Paladin's Ashes. Also you can get 3 Undead Hunter Charms if I remember from High Wall Of Lothric. All you got to do is go to 2nd bonfire, Then progress through the map and skip the demon hollow and go down the ladder, To the right of the ladder will be a entrance, Go through and to the left room, There will be some Hollows there but just kill them and there will be vases. Destroy them and 1 of them drops 3 Undead Hunter Charms. Hope this entire paragraph helped some new player.

Chris B. Nothing compares to his fight against the blue smelter demon. He was using a magic havels shield which has 100% magic defense. He was wrecking the boss and when the boss was like 1 hit from death cowboy praised the sun and proceeded to die lol.
Fought this boss today before seeing this guide. Ran around him seeking cover on the burned bodies and killed him with iron arrows. pretty rewarding
*Pro Tip:* lure the Fire Demon down to the platform below where several skeletons will resurrect and all begin attacking the demon at once.
First try on Old Demon King I came in with Human Pine Resin on my Sellsword Twin Blades and got him to half health before he even did his first attack but unfortunately died shortly after.
Craziest thing ever happens on my second attempt; for some reason I believe it had something to do with Cuculus but he ended up out of bounds but didn't die like most From bosses do when they glitch out so I had to let him kill me with his meteor attack.
Third try was very standard and took him out no problem but the whole thing was a roller coaster between the 3 attempts lol!

Since the abyss watches I've been using the executioners great sword to +4 and it is so much better than the weapon he prefers. It staggers enemies much better
Fire demon king thing: If you hug his legs and attack than 80% of his attacks dont hit you.
I just took advantage of the fact that he was too big to get through the doorway, and spammed arrows at it.
I lured the Demon to the skeletons and man, they made quick work of that big fella. Didn't notice the mimic up top until now, thanks to this guide
one BIG trick i have just discovered, you can lure The knight with Fume sword to black knight behind The bridge upstairs, and they will fight each other, so you only need to finish wounded last man standing 😂
I'm thoroughly enjoying your walkthroughs. Without them I probably would have given up on the game long time ago. You make it look easy when I get my ass handed to me regularly so I alter the play a little bit and heavily rely on the bow to lure in enemy's to fight one on one. Without your walkthrough I surely would have missed a lot of things. Thank you for taking the time to explain in detail what you're doing.
The trick to this guy is patience. Wait until he does the hammer sweep and slams the ground, strike once, dodge out. You might only get one attack in at a time, but it's worth spending 10 minutes chipping away at his health than getting blown up by some stupid fire combo.

Ryan Ianaro I found it on my 1st playthrough by mistake. I hit the bridge fighting an invader and we both fell down and it tipped me off.
Men the jump to the bonfire is brutal 💀
In that room with the demon and the mimic, I actually just went right after the the mimic and hit it because I didn't know at that time.
So I walked back to the entrance because I didnt want to fight that demon AND the mimic at the same time.
Turns out the mimic is not having the demons whole existance and straight up killed it for me.

First boss that took me several attempts, patience is really the key to the fight I learned. Run in, get a few whacks, back up, repeat. And dark weapon buff helps too. And for people getting smashed by the worm and arrows, after the worm moves, run behind the rock that is to the left of the area. And use an emote that puts you close to the ground. It takes a couple minutes, but the arrows will kill the worm. Then run to the right side of the entrance, and follow the path. And there is a bonfire right there.
Holly cow, so while I was fighting this first demon he fell to the level below and a bunch of skeletons pretty much killed him (left him with like 100 health) took him down with one shot loool that’s one awesome hack :D

I struggled so much with that first Fire Demon. After my 6th try I managed to bait him to the lower section & the gang of skeletons took care of him whilst I hid in the door archway. Be careful though, some of the demons attacks can still reach you if you're not far enough down the steps.

Playing this game in December 2024. Beat this boss after several and several attempts. Kept losing Ember's and summon . Didn't wont to lose anymore so i beat it without a Ember or a summon. Great game 😊
IMPORTANT. If you summon calculus during the Old demon king fight and defeat him without calculus dying, go to Cornyx’s cage in the undead settlement. Calculus hollows here and you find his corpse, along with incredible gear and cool whip. Keep him alive. It’s worth it
Do not skip the worm. I followed this guide (which is mostly great) and it made my game harder. It drops a bone shard which will be VERY useful for the shit show thats coming up. Its super easy to kill to. Simply run past it and stand behind it. It will go crazy but eventually stop for a moment and you get a few hits in. Run back and wait, repeat. Takes 5-10 mins and is super easy. My pain is your gain.

There is 2 summon signs by the bonfire. They are both heavy knights. Makes the old demon king a breeze
I realized that with how straightforward this game is I wasn’t watching your walkthrough so I didn’t spoil anything. Then, after I went to some cathedral area and went through a majority of that except the boss, I went down here and thought time to catch up, I’m getting shot at with electric and arrows and giant crabs and I need help.
for the mimic, i aggrod it right away, then ran back and when the fire guy spit his fire, hit the mimic twice then the mimic ran down to fight him to die lol. so that worked well.
Yea did the same, suprised mimic actually won in my game so I went up and killed the half hp mimic
You can do the same with the skeletons, lure them up and they all try to take on the demon.
That mimic is harder than the mini boss
FML I probably died for an hour straight trying to do that damn jump and getting to it for the shard and then I decided to watch the rest of the video and you mentioned a shortcut. I went and found a video for that shortcut and got there in around 1 minute.
You can actually summon the guy that drop FUGS to help you with the old demon king which made the fight a cake walk. His summon sign is near the bonfire on the right side of the boss fog gate. Though if you use him as a summon you better kill the boss as fast as you can cause don't use heal for some reason.

during my playthrough, when fighting the old demon king, there was two summons, one for a knight in the demon ruins bonfire room and the pyromancer
For anyone using a sorcery build thats struggling with this boss fight, just rotate around the mound in the middle while using Great Heavy Soul Arrow. Its very easy.

@@jpthedrummer4258 apperently you don't even need to make a jump if I remember right you can get in by having that explosive thing that shoots at you in the centipede area hit a certain spot on the ground to blow a hole for you to get in and goes to that room (haven't played this in a few months lol)

hey @FightinCowboy! figured i would let you and everyone know if you do the ballista before the demon king, along the route there will be a set of stairs down that leads you to a knight slayer that if you kill him it will allow you to summon him for the demon king at the closest bonefire to the demon king in the corner of the bonefire room. summoning him makes this boss a complete joke. between me and the knight slayer we kept the demon stun locked the whole time. i was using a +6 claymore.
You can summon knught slayer before you even take out the ballista! I just did and haven't gotten to the ballista yet and he helped alottt. Alone with the summon at the bottom of the stairs

So am I the only one who made the Old Demon King and the mob of skeletons just past him, fight? Like I knew I didn't want to risk fighting him alone so I ran past him thinking maybe I could out run him, only to be ambushed. Then they went at it while I was dodging both assaults, before long the skeletons had done enough damage to Old Fire breath for me to finish him with a last attack. So there's that, took a few seconds >.> only dark souls would make skeletons that strong.
Dusk CrimsonFang that is impossible. The old. Demon king is behind a fog wall that skeletons can't cross. You must be talking about the mini boss demon before you. Reach smoldering lake.
I don't mean to be an ass but I'm using the "Guts" GS and I destroyed that fire demon in 4 hits 😂

I’m playing this now and the jump seems impossible. Then i discovered theres a stair going up near from where you fell down leading to the bonefire lol

i found that if you look sorta downwards while running up to where you jump you can see the exact moment you should jump, makes it much easier.

*Spooky Scary Skeletons* * Send Shivers Down Your Spine*
Late to the party, but just played this bit and a very helpful summon just showed me that after running left from the entrance of Smoldering Lake towards the boss steps, there is a mound of ground you can stand behind (on the left, just as you reach ground from the lake) which maintains the aggro of the Skele-worm but the ballista will carry on firing and take out the Skele-worm after a few shots. Some will miss when it starts coiling, but they will tear it up when it pauses to do the lightning breath.
The ballista cannot hit you, because you are slightly below ground.
You can cheese that demon; just bait him to the skellys at the bottom. Easy win!
I personally let the demon chase me to the skeleton room, and then sat back, relaxed, and enjoyed the sight of a gang of skellys taking down the demon
I fell into the skelly room and they finished the demon for me as well, lol

@@not-so-perfect9795 yeah it is. Been trying out the black knight sword and lothric knight greatsword which are great but I always revert back to the ridiculously fast and hard hitting +10 refined broadsword with 40/40 str & dex. The dps is too good
Broad sword is probably the strongest weapon by a long shot early on
I actually fell to that hole trying to get the estus shard, as a result I runned blindly avoiding enemies (i was frightened) I accidentally saw a black knight, stole his sword that was on a corpse behind him and fleed go another room, that room was the room with a bonfire. Never felt so lucky before.

Burned through 3 Dark Resins on my Battle Axe trying to kill the Old Demon King. 4th try just got him with my trusty +5 Heavy Battle Axe with no resin. Great guides up until this point. Also very helpful hints/tips coming from the comment section of various videos in the series (like the Armor Set on the main Decon's body available after resting once you have killed the Decons).
Good stuff
1. Position yourself behind the small mound behind the worm as the ballista is firing at you, and the bolts won't hit you but will kill the worm.
2. Summon Tsorig, he's at the first bonfire and can face tank the Old Demon King.
3. 25:20 I heard those sounds after I killed the wormy, it's the crabs above 😬
I literally cannot hit this guy more than 4 times without dying
his attacks are readable. paitence not greed. dodge and attack when needed.
@@kozmoz-e4k245 so this is my first play through of any souls game and after getting this far at level 56 i realized that i fucked my stat allocation with building up stats i dont need and dont use and my character should be much stronger because of it but i already wasted my pale tongues so i restarted my file and plan to make use of everything ive learned for a better play through. Another thing is i didnt see the guy in sitting on the throne until a lot later and didnt know giving him boss souls will grant you rings or weapons that are super useful so ive got that to look forward now too.
try to poison him and stay below him if he tries to jump or idk to smash the ground below then just dodge

FWIW - anyone stuck on the stupid jump at 23:25, you don’t need the jump at all. After falling through the hole go behind you (opposite of the way cowboy goes) and head up the stairs straight to that same bonfire. So much frickin easier.

Was lucky enough to get the Black Knight Great Sword earlier and now I can wield it and it just CHUNKS through bosses. It’s amazing
For whoever is watching this now, don't fight the demon like he did. Wait for it to walk all the way to where you come into the room, and attack him. He can't attack back.
I realized that the skeletons also attack the mini-boss demon, so something you can do is lure the demon down to the lower floor, wake up all the skeletons, and watch them kill each other. It's pretty satisfying to watch, and the skeletons actually do a decent amount of damage against the demon per strike.
You should probably also be able to summon knight slayer Tsorig at the bonfire near the boss.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that finds mimics to be one of the creepiest enemies in all of these games. I freaking hate them more than any boss I've ever come across.
