Testing and Reviewing the Kuying Teton Ultralight Rod

  • Got myself a new ultralight rod to play with, the Kuying Teton spinning rod. This rod is hard to come by in the United States, but Kuying is a fairly popular brand in Asia and the Kuying Teton has some great reviews online. After reading the reviews and watching some videos on it, I decided to order myself my own Kuying Teton from AliExpress. After using it for the first time I realized it is a fairly good rod for the money. Lots of sensitivity and perfect for fishing small jigs like the Trout Magnet. My biggest concern is that the Kuying Teton lacks the backbone needed to bring in fish of any size in heavily structured or grassy/weedy areas. Stay tuned for more videos featuring my new Kuying Teton.

    I own the light version of it and I love it. I'm able to cast 1/80oz jigs on it. I know a bunch of people that got the casting version for their bfs setup. I'm even able to feel the bites of really small fish like banded killi

      It's a really good rod. Rivals some of the $200+ JDM rods I have.

    I got the 6.6 Teton lite casting , the 6.3 ultra lite casting and I have another 6.6 lite in spinning coming to round out my bfs combos .... great rods

    Another Great video! I just got into using trout magnets this year and they are awesome multispecies lures. I've often fished with them all day long and have caught everything from panfish to crappie, perch, trout and even 2 lb largemouth and Smallmouth over 2 lbs. I use a 6'0 Okuma Celilo ultralight which looks pretty similar, it's not the weight of the lure that's the main issue it's the size of the hook, because the very ultralight rods have a hard time setting heavier diameter hooks but perfect for small jigs and spinners.
    *** One thing you'll have to be careful with is not to "short stick" the fishing rod when you're trying to pull out fish or a snag. When you grab the rod above the handle onto the rod blank it is much more likely to break in those situations.

    I need to get a ultralight setup. I loved that it was pouring and you're like. I really like the action on this rod. Lol good job man.

      Lol the way I look at weather is that you have no control over it, just how you react to it. I have that mentality about most things that happen in life.

    Dope, I wish the first fish that was pulling drag you got in. I was super curious to see what it was. The rod looked great for ultralight, great review.

      Thanks man. Me too. Alas it will be a mystery. I'm almost positive though it was a decent sized peacock bass. I've caught a lot of nice ones in this lake.

      Thank you. When I was looking for reviews on this rod I actually watched your video on it. That's how I first found your channel. After using it for a few weeks now I really love it for smaller lures. Thanks for watching.

      @@TheFishingNomad yes buddy use 4or 6 lbs braided line (Japanese version line) for long casting.

    Now go ahead and spool up 8 lb. braid and tie your 4 lb. Berkley Vanish only as a leader. You will definitely see major difference in the casting distance!

    • @okish02
      @okish02 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try 14.5 or 16 lb varivus x8 thinner than 8 lb braid but more power

      What's the dia on 8 lb braid?

  • @MegaTechno2000

    You'll get more distance if you put more line on your reel.The lip on your spool is causing too much rubbing and drag on your line when you cast it out.

    • @TheFishingNomad
      @TheFishingNomad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I'll look into that. The reel says it'll hold 110 yard of 4 pound mono and I have 100 yards on there so I thought it was a good amount.

    • @MegaTechno2000
      @MegaTechno2000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheFishingNomad What you want is, the line to peel off as easy as possible, without the spool lip impeding it’s flow. So you must fill up your spool almost even with the lip without going over. But the problem with this is sometimes it can cause your line to want to jump off your spool causing tangles. So you have to find a happy medium. I would say to put too much line on the reel at first , then subtract it until you get it right (manageable).

      @@MegaTechno2000 I found the problem. The problem is that I'm an idiot. I thought I bought the normal model reel, but I looked today and this is the deep spool reel. I thought it was filled properly just based on the amount I put on, I never really inspected it visually. You are absolutely right, this reel is under spooled.
