Recapping and Reviewing my Thailand, Indonesia, and Singapore Fishing Trip | 🇹🇭🇮🇩🇸🇬
A "short" recap and review of my summer 2023 fishing trip to Thailand, Indonesia, and Singapore. Special thanks to Nino ( nino_starink) for his hospitality while in Indonesia, to Jiayuan ( sgmultispeciesfishing) for his endless help with everything fishing related in SE Asia, and to Scott (something-fishy-going-on.blogspot.com/) for some fishing intel on Singapore.

I Caught This Barramundi From the Weirdest Spot | Singapore Fishing 🇸🇬
มุมมอง 3289 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
My last fishing session in Singapore was back at the same spot I had my first session, Pulau Ubin. The goal was to catch a couple species that I missed out on during the first time I fished here. While I didn't get a huge number of new species I did manage two, the giant mudskipper (Periophthalmodon schlosseri) and the barramundi (Lates calcarifer). Pretty good way to end my three week fishing ...

A rainy fishing session on St. John Island was disappointing to start, but finished with a trio of new species. I had started out targeting some mullet with bread, but once the mullet disappeared and I hadn't caught any I was a bit worried the rest of the day would be similar. Spot two was just about as bad as spot one with only two fish coming up before I decided to get off of the rocks due to...
Fishing Bedok Jetty | Singapore Fishing 🇸🇬
มุมมอง 944วันที่ผ่านมา
Not trying to grind as hard as I have the past couple of weeks I decided to come back to Bedok Jetty for a couple hours of easy fishing. No hiking up mountains. No balancing on rocks as the surf crashed at my feet. No working heavy lures through fast water. Just standing on the pier and dropping shrimp. I had the goal of catching a single new species for my lifelist, but honestly I would've bee...
I Caught This Beautiful Fish Off of the Pier | Lagoon Shrimpgoby | Singapore Fishing 🇸🇬

Is Bedok Jetty the best multispecies fishing spot on earth? I don't know about earth, but it's certainly the best single spot in Singapore. While I fished this pier rather heavily last summer, I knew there were still many new species to be caught. This outing wasn't all about chasing that new species, but just fishing and having some fun. If a new species were to show up, that would just be a b...
A Day of Fishing on Singapore's Southern Islands | Singapore Fishing 🇸🇬
มุมมอง 46414 วันที่ผ่านมา
A sixteen species day with two new additions to the lifelist is always nice, right? This five hour session on Singapore's southern islands produced a nice variety of fish and even two species I've never caught before in the herring scad (Alepes vari) and insignia shrimpgoby (Cryptocentroides insignis). While two new species isn't much, it's better than nothing. *Fishing Equipment Used* St. Croi...

My first stop in Singapore was the main spot I regretted not visiting during my trip here last year, Pulau Ubin. This island just north of mainland Singapore is mainly used as a time capsule of Singapore in the 1960s. My first stop on the island was a mangrove area towards the west end. After catching mainly Kop's glassfish, humpback cardinalfish, and stripe-nosed halfbeaks, I did my best to tr...
Tide Pool Microfishing on Bali | Indonesia Fishing 🇮🇩
มุมมอง 42928 วันที่ผ่านมา
Fishing on Bali has been tough, so for my last day I decided to fish some tide pools hoping for a new species. While all the bottom dwelling fish that I caught were either ornate gobies (Istigobius ornatus) or dusky frillfin gobies (Bathygobius fuscus), I did hook up with one goby that would've been a new species. Unfortunately I lost that one before getting a picture. The day wasn't a total wa...

I fishing for about five hours starting around sunset and managed to catch several small silvery fish. My second fishing session on the island of Bali in Indonesia went a bit better than the first. Eight different species were caught with five of them being new additions to the lifelist. While that isn't exactly a grand slam, it's a solid double. I'm not exactly sure what small bait stealers are on the bottom here, but I've lost a lot of bait without much to show for it. My time in Indonesia has not gone according to plan. However, I finally managed to get some bait and do some fishing. The action was moderate, but my hookup ratio was low. The highlight was definitely the two blackpatch triggerfish (Rhinecanthus verrucosus) that ended up on the end of my line. The day wasn't awfu...
Catching New Species During My Last Fishing Session on Phuket | Thailand Fishing 🇹🇭
มุมมอง 306หลายเดือนก่อน
For my final fishing session on Phuket in Thailand I went back to the pier nearest my hotel where I caught plenty of different species during the last week. While it was mostly repeats, I did manage to catch my first ever dory snapper (Lutjanus fulviflamma) and longfin grouper (Epinephelus quoyanus). Always a good day when you can add some new species to the lifelist. That's going to do it for ...
Pulling Up New Species of Cardinalfish Off of the Pier | Thailand Fishing 🇹🇭

Given the windy conditions making fishing the surf off of the rocks impossible for a third straight day, I came back to my trusty local pier to see if I could find any new species. Sometimes identifying different species of fish is difficult if there are many species that look similar. T...
Fishing a Lagoon Before Sunset | Thailand Fishing 🇹🇭

$9 a night?!? Good grief! Great recap and sounds like you had a heck of an adventure. Indonesia sounds a lot like Cozumel. Had the same type of experience there years ago. As a suggestion for your next adventure… I’d like to nominate Pallet Town.
NYC Lol. Did you get a tattoo?
Very interesting reports, well worth taking multiple packs of dried sandworm with you, good bait to have in reserve
Great trip! Enjoyed the videos. Thanks for taking us along.
Singapore makes up for the lack of hunting by fishing
It's not summer yet lol
Well this was my summer 2023 trip
@@TheFishingNomad I figured , just teasing. Looks like it was great trip. I enjoyed my visit to Thailand a few years ago.
Great video! Congrats on the barramundi! My buddy did fish with those folks in FL and had a great time catching some really big fish.
Loving the mudskippers and the shrimp gobies👍. Have you ever caught a skilletfish? They are a very cool fish. Also a goby relative. We catch those and naked gobies here in MD.
Thanks. Nice info. Good delivery 😊.
Thank you.
Super cool
Thanks.
Excellent series. Such beautiful scenery and so many neat fish. Your content is one of a kind. I’ve never seen anyone else do the kind of trips and species identification that you do on this channel. So good. Entertaining and I always learn something about new fish every video. Having never fished any place outside of my hometown here in East Tennessee, it’s so cool to see the different species.
Thank you. Much appreciated. There is so much beauty and diversity in the world that I love seeing everything our planet has to offer. Tennessee actually has the most native species out of any state in the US. If you really got into microfishing you could pick up well over 100 species without leaving the state. I do get jealous though every time you catch a white crappie. I still never caught one of those.
When you said a spot that doesn’t look like it has fish… I immediately thought “My guy, Nomad, can catch fish out of a ditch”. Lo and behold… you literally fished a ditch.😂 That mudskipper looked awesome. Super cool shot of the bike passing by. The Baramundi looks a lot like a bass with a crappie head!
Thank you. You'd be surprised at what kinds of places that look inhospitable actually hold fish.
Have you ever caught any Indian glass fish here in Singapore?
Unfortunately, no, I haven't.
I like those goby’s
Thanks. They were neat.
Nice lil creek
It sure was.
I am a simple man: I see the goby ,I click on the video
I'm the same way.

In your opinion. What are the top 5 best UL rod on the US market right now. Multi purpose.
Tough to say as I haven't fished that many. I would honestly have to refer you to this video from i_fish. The guy knows his stuff and hasn't let me down yet. Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/1vl6bym9Hl0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=bZrXr6vKtwASUZ_g
Awesome catch, how long will you be staying in singapore for? Wld be heading to bedok jetty tmr, hope to fish with you :)
These recent videos are actually from last summer. I've been back in the US for a while now.
Awesome, what were you using as bait?
Shrimp.
OMG is that a Virgin River Spinedace!! Amazing catch, I think they're pretty rare and hard to find 💯💯
Thanks. I think their range is shrinking which is why Utah lists them as protected, but this river has more of these than any other fish species.
I finally caught the Johnny darter target species
Nice. Congrats.
@@TheFishingNomad thanks been trying for past 2 months
Is this on the ease or west of Florida? I live in Naples. Great video btw!
Kind of if the middle, but more east. This is roughly 10-15 miles west of Krome Ave.
Man those mudd skippers ima get asap
They're definitely cool.
Do those shrimp gobys put up a fight?
Ehh, not really. Maybe about as good as a small bluegill.
👍

Where I come from in Indiana we call warm ass goggle eyes
What about hybrids
What about hybrids?
How do tell a hybrid apart from regular sunfish since they interbreed frequently in some waters
@@Mateogreat Well the fish will have features of more than one species. You can see if this video helps: th-cam.com/video/cS8s0GYd5ZE/w-d-xo.html
In south Florida it tough because we only have four sunfish species bluegill, spotted sunfish, warmouth and red ear I suspect I’ve got some red ear bluegill hybrids over the years
Agree with your comments about "catching 100 species". So far, from community driven catch records, I have collated 216 species (many more not recorded yet) of fishes caught using hook and line. I'm only on 58 species, but definitely trying to get more!
Where did you record the 216 species from?
@@TheFishingNomad It's a project I made. However, TH-cam refuses to let me share the link or how you can get there lol. My replies get auto-deleted all the time
missed you on that jetty by about a week!
That's too bad. How'd you do there?
@@TheFishingNomad a bunch of puffers and Russel’s snappers
@@fishincheap1102 Oh nice. I've never caught a puffer there.
Nice day fishing! As you mentioned it can be fun to just put yourself in a spot where there are potential lifers but also a lot of variety that you don't know what will bite. We fish pier/jetty fish using a dropper loop above a weight. Do you feel that you have better sensitivity and hookups using that sliding sinker rig?
I don't know about better sensitivity, but I was mainly trying to catch some bottom dwelling species. I tried to get my bait as close to the bottom as possible here which the dropper rig wouldn't really allow me to do.
“3 weeks of fishing all day is wearing me out….gonna take it easy today…and do some more fishing.”😂 Love it. You’re a diehard angler, my friend. Those little pink ear emperor looks so neat. The Tuskfish look like the sleep in a coffin and hate garlic. Beautiful location and catches, as always. The drag on that reel sounds excellent.
Haha thanks. Just want to make sure I make the most of my time and money. I might never be able to make it back to this part of the world.
🎣👍
Thanks.
Good fishing, lots of different species.👍
Thank you. It was a nice variety.
how to differentiate juvenile russell vs john snapper
The title says "all sunfish in the United states" but you left out bass. They are sunfish as well. And my favorite
Description and the actual video states that it is the fishes most commonly referred to as sunfish, the species in the lepomis genus.
Most people don't know bass is a sunfish
That is true. They are in the same family, but this video was for the common sunfish aka lepomis genus sunfish.
I'm just letting people know because alot of people don't know that bass are in the sunfish family
@@JamesWhite-tg4kw Correct. We should also specify that it's black basses (largemouth, smallmouth, Suwannee, etc.) and not striped bass, white bass, or peacock bass.
Right 👍
the green sunfish we call a warmouth. at least thats what ive been brought up to call em. was told its a cross between a rock bass and bluegill. and they are the most agressive. the smallmouth bass of gills.
If you call green sunfish warmouth, then what do you call warmouth? Also, its not a cross or anything.
@@TheFishingNomad The warmouth you showed we call rock bass Every book I read growing up had the same imagery. Red eyes, dull colors. Black spot on the back of the gill. Mouth of a small mouth bass, speckled like a crappie. Even now if I google rock bass it shows the fish you call a warmouth.. not trying to bash ya or anything, I did enjoy the video.
@@mrgbs7168 I understand that. Didn't think you were bashing it. What do you call rock bass? I know people call different species different things, but I used to most widely accepted common names in the video. Also should've used binomial names to clear up any confusion.
@@TheFishingNomad rock bass. The one at the end of the video, to me is a baby rock bass. They can get around 10 to 11 inches.
@@mrgbs7168 Here's the binomial name. What do you refer to these? Ambloplites rupestris
I like your opinion ? Do you think the 6'9" ML/XF be a good choice for finesse bass/Ned Rig ect. Im thinking of one ? Thanks & Good reviews. Ray
Yes I think that would be fine. I have a 6'10" ML/XF St. Croix Legend Xtreme that I like to use for that and it works well. This would be even more on the lighter side than that, but for some finesse bass fishing, especially on small rivers, I think it'll be great.
Where is that creek? Looking to add convict chiclids to the life list
Bluegill are also really thin from side to side. You get an 11 inch bluegill and it looks huge but has less meat on it than a 9 inch redear or pumpkinseed.
I haven't really noticed that, but I think you're right. Good point if you're fishing for food.
@@TheFishingNomad I've seen it consistently with bluegill vs. pumpkinseeds in Michigan and bluegill vs. redears in Florida, so I assume it's universal. The hybrids also seem to be reasonably chunky.
Love that shrimpgoby and those filefish. What a great trip! What resources are you using for id work on these Asian fish?
Thank you. The shrimp goby was my favorite. My main resource is Jiayuan (instagram.com/sgmultispeciesfishing?igsh=MWhtdmQ4bjhxZW10cg==), he really knows his stuff. I also use Reef Fish Identification Tropical Pacific (www.amazon.com/Reef-Fish-Identification-Tropical-Pacific/dp/1878348604/ref=asc_df_1878348604/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693363595110&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17706573622032539579&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9051808&hvtargid=pla-385375025167&psc=1&mcid=90157ff87d593bd48bb41bfe101cba67&gad_source=1). Mostly true. Warmouth also have a very large mouth. I think they're even bigger than green sunfish.
GREAT VIDEO ALWAYS WONDERED ABOUT THE GILL'S HOW MANY SPEICIES AND ALL.
Thank you.
South Alabamian here. I frequently fish one of our local city parks. It's been the victim of mismanagement for a few years. The pond's whole ecology is severely out-o-whack. But there are still some good fish in it. One of the park rangers always comes and hangs out a bit while I'm fishing and we shoot the breeze. He's a cool guy. He's a recent transplant from Minnesota. That's a far cry from Alabama. Anyway he was watching me catch Sunfish the other day. This pond has quite the variety. He was asking me "What's this kind? What's that kind"? I would invariably say "Oh it's just a Bream". He said that in Minnesota they call that one a so and so Sunfish and that other one a so and so Sunfish... I told him that he was absolutely right. They were Sunfish. But that here in Alabama we commonly just use the word "Bream" to encompass the entire family of Sunfish species and subspecies. Even the State Fisheries Dept. refers to this entire family of fish as "Bream". Heck, even this specific pond has four signs posted with the daily creel limits. The very top line says BREAM - LIMIT 10. He of course thinks we're stupid Rednecks. But that's just the way it is here.
For some situations, it's fine to just clump them all in together like calling them all "bream". For other situations though you need to be able to differentiate between them. I like how they're all different and unique so I like differentiating them any time I can.
What a great day! Such variety. Love those gobies and the tuskfish. Can't wait for the next video.
Thank you. This was certainly a solid session.
Always love the sergeants. Those Tuskfish are beautiful too.
Yup, like a super colorful saltwater bluegill.

Thank you.
Really lucky to catch that rare (and huge mudskipper). It looks like they attack the bait ferociously,i cant imagine what you feel in the rod. Cant wait to see more mudskipper fishing.
It was certainly a unique fishing experience. I catch a couple more mudskippers in two of the videos coming up. They pounce on the bait on dry land with some solid force. They're fun fishes to catch.
