The Forum: I’ve always wondered what makes someone a brand person. I hear “I am BMW guy” or “I’m not a Mercedes person” and I don’t understand. Is it the looks? Driving feel? Easy/hard to work on one vs the other? Or just based on reputation? I’d like to hear your opinion on this.
For me personally it’s how they drive. I’m not a VAG or BMW person at all, when I drive them I just feel like a passenger while the car is doing all the work. I don’t feel involved at all. Worst car I’ve ever driven was a DSG Golf R. Get me in to a Renault sport anything and I’m happy but I know there are so many people who hate French cars.
I feel like the branding of the manufacturer plays the biggest part. I think that it draws a type of personality to like the brand that they want to be attributed to. But, I also think that this can fade in and out depending on the type of people you start seeing driving these different brands. A good example would be Mercedes. Again, broadly speaking they feel like they used to be about engineering elegance. Now the type of people that buy them tend to be blingy show offs. Great question though because I struggle to put my finger on it, even explaining what it feels like is hard to rationalise

My take on the BMWs is that sadly der neue klasse is most likely going to be peak modular design (you can choose the same model for ICE, hybrid or electric). I used to daydream about sitting on the couch being interviewed as the "average guy in a reasonably priced car," Thank God for Samsung TV it plays too gear 24/7 on the too gear channel and prime streams them all as well.
Question for the forum: How does the BMW naming scheme work? How do people know what car you're talking about by a 318 compared to an e36? It constantly confuses me but I'm in too deep to ask
I agree about the black wheels, hardly any of them actually look good & spending a lot of money on "stealthy"-looking wheels is just dumb. Altough, the best looking black wheels I found so far are the MSW 30, only because they have silver accents
I was so pleased when Will said the Merc ML. Killing the bloodline of awful crossover/SUVs which are shit to drive, shit to look at and shit to be hit by is exactly what I was thinking when the question was asked.
All I'm thinking about the argument at the end is classic cars looking so good on stupidly wide black wheels. Putting a set of black Watanabes on a 70's Datsun or big black stock car steels on an old muscle car and it's just the best thing you can do to them.
The very fact that you can refer to them as the trio and 70% of people know who they is testement to the way they have changed the world. I quote shows all the time, my favourite is just to shout hammmondd at colleges.
One of the worst jobs I've done so far... Clio 172/182 starter motor. Had to change it 3 times. After the first, I paid a specialist and they were impressed that someone had managed it 😂
sorry Edwin, Will is correct. Black wheels can look good on many cars, but the calipers must be painted (I prefer a fire engine red but any brighter color will do).
14:25 I don't give a crap about cars, besides occasionally teasing my BMW friend or my Ferrari friend. But I love watching car shows that don't take themselves too seriously.
I went to watch top gear live when I was about 12-13 I then went to see clarkson Hammond and may live when I was 21 I then went to the Premiere of the Grand tour in London and met Andy Wilman. No one can understand the importance the trio had on my life
Z31. Metaphorically speaking, the engine compartment is akin to an undersized container, overfilled with shards of glass and rusty metal. Reaching into is only pain and shredded flesh.
The lack of oil isn't the issue, there's loads and there's also carbon capture in the pipeline. The problem is the fact that the emissions aren't wonderful.
to add to the black wheel argument i am with Will on this. I have a blue defender with black accents and black wheels. Silver wheels would look shit and if needed i can send you a phone of it to prove it looks great with black wheels XD
The W204 C63 AMG's were so popular here in Australia. Drug dealers car of choice when new. Or a rich man's SS Commodore - Aussies love a V8. I can't see the same infatuation with the new 4 Cylinder turbo C63.
Here’s one for Edwin, on Collecting Cars as I type this is a red with black wheels V8 E92 for £6800. I wanna know his feelings. Also if you have about £15k to spare there is an R32 and R33 GTR up there too. Both need importing from Australia, but the 32 is a V-Spec II and the 33 is a V-Spec N1. If someone could buy me the 240z that’s on there too that’d be great 👍🏻
With the grand tour finale I was dying of laughter at the train cars and hammond going backwards, but as soon as they found the lancia and Mercedes, scripted as it may be, that broke me, there were tears
Awkwardly DriveTribe themselves did a video a long time back saying that those cars were still in Botswana, and they also did one explaining what happened to the Source of the Nile estate cars.

And I’m with Will on brightly coloured wheels. Unless they’re banded steels
Jeremy looking at the convertible Renault espace and falling to the floor laughing is my favorite
Black Weller steels or deep dish steels are amazing in black
This is great keep it up 🙂
I watched every top gear episode a million times over on Dave. I watched every GT episode as soon as they came out. My dedication has been unrelenting even with the GT not being their best work at times. 100% felt like I had been punched in the stomach at the end. Top gear will always be my youth.
TDC listen to old school hip hop 😮. We need a TDC playlist! Need more old school recommendations
Can we just appreciate Will’s American accent 😂
Question for 'The Forum'... What's the difference between a small block and a big block? And is it possible to convert a small block into a big block? I could search on Google, but I’d rather hear it from you. Thanks!
Interresting thing if the Honda Jazz never existed i dont think i would have noticed.
They are everywhere I live, but i only recently fund out they exited.
Okay it's sad about the top gear guys. But you guys are the future. You are doing it now. The future is TH-cam. There's no need to aspire to be on television. You guys are going from strength to strength. Your channel will get bigger and bigger. Everyone followed you from where you were before. Look at you now
Could you please add this to Apple Podcasts also?
I used to daydream about sitting on the couch being interviewed as the "average guy in a reasonably priced car," Thank God for Samsung TV it plays too gear 24/7 on the too gear channel and prime streams them all as well.
Question for the forum:
How does the BMW naming scheme work? How do people know what car you're talking about by a 318 compared to an e36? It constantly confuses me but I'm in too deep to ask
I agree about the black wheels, hardly any of them actually look good & spending a lot of money on "stealthy"-looking wheels is just dumb. Altough, the best looking black wheels I found so far are the MSW 30, only because they have silver accents
Rented an rx8 for a road trip from Tokyo to Fukushima. I've plotted the route to include as many touge as possible 😮😂❤
I have a suggestion for next week's car song: I Wanna Be Yours - Arctic Monkeys. They mention the rust on the Ford Cortina as a point of comparison.
I cant be the only one who loves seeing ben on the channels lol....Big up Benjamin every time 🔥
I was so pleased when Will said the Merc ML.
What does the numbers mean for motor oil and car oil in general?
If you don't know it check out "500 Benz" by joey badass. You'll definitely vibe with it
The very fact that you can refer to them as the trio and 70% of people know who they is testement to the way they have changed the world.
I agree that some black wheels CAN look good but that they will always look better in a non-black colour
14:25 I don't give a crap about cars, besides occasionally teasing my BMW friend or my Ferrari friend. But I love watching car shows that don't take themselves too seriously.
I went to watch top gear live when I was about 12-13
I then went to see clarkson Hammond and may live when I was 21
I then went to the Premiere of the Grand tour in London and met Andy Wilman.
No one can understand the importance the trio had on my life
Just a thought. It would be nice if you cut in som stills of some of the cars you're talking about?
Z31. Metaphorically speaking, the engine compartment is akin to an undersized container, overfilled with shards of glass and rusty metal. Reaching into is only pain and shredded flesh.
Can you tell me why can't we just put water for coolent?
you should discuss Monte Carlo by Struggle Jennings, Clarkson used it in the final special too and i havent been able to get the song out of my head.
Good bar from JME integrity “ See me in a 6 cylinder 3 litre 2 turbos ragsin it out”
Ghetts has a sick part of a verse about cars,
“Golf GTI Mark 1
That's how long I've had cars from
MR2's and MX-5's
R-E-A-L, better recognise”
My favorite Gene hunt and top gear "keys to the Quattro"
If someone could buy me the 240z that’s on there too that’d be great 👍🏻
I think Clarkson described driving the Bentley as "going sideways in Blenheim Palace" 😂
Ah the FTO, saw it the other day on a trailer south of Cambridge. No doubt it was that car, couldn't miss the thing! lol
I managed to convince my mum to spec silver wheels on her mini and it just looks classy
The car I wish never existed: Tesla Cybertruck, close second Pontiac Aztek
Can’t wait to see the clio V6 😁
With the grand tour finale I was dying of laughter at the train cars and hammond going backwards, but as soon as they found the lancia and Mercedes, scripted as it may be, that broke me, there were tears
Awkwardly DriveTribe themselves did a video a long time back saying that those cars were still in Botswana, and they also did one explaining what happened to the Source of the Nile estate cars.
I would say the production team knew and so made the route so the boys would pass by. Did they know? Probably not.
Those cards were found in Botswana a few months before filming, the production 100% set it up, but it doesn't make it any less powerful
