I just saw this film, and thank you. I am one of the artist's daughters. The Triforium was a misunderstood piece of work. Dr. Young designed this sculpture, with full support of the City, to be emblematic of Los Angeles as a THE progressive city of the future; it was to be a focal point for downtown, where there would be live concerts (which it did have originally) and to attract people to spend time there. The original cost of was 1/4 of the final price, largely due to the huge earthquake in Los Angeles that delayed construction by years, and caused engineering redesign to comply with new earthquake standards. The media seized on those issues as fodder to sensationalize the sculpture. Unfortunately City bureaucracy did not allocate funds as time went on, to maintain and utilize the sculpture as it was intended.

I just spied this great sculpture today from far away while I headed toward City Hall...I love it, tell your dad (?) I said "thank you" even if its just in your heart!!
I discovered the Triforium last Saturday when exploring downtown LA with a friend. It's so fabulous! An old man came over to us and explained what it was like when it was working and he was there!. It was such a special moment. I wish I could see it in action in all it's glory.

When it worked it was nice! I remember the center and sitting have lunch and enjoying the little chimes in a noisy city. Thanks for all the LA videos! I have enjoyed LA for over 40 years now living in Oregon. I loved exploring LA years past and now with you! Keep filming all the great historic places. So much is gone and going! :)
Its like a lost city that doesn't know what it has. Its a great piece of 1970 rock art that should be reborn for the 21st century. I would envision holograms beamed into the center of the piece at night.

you know what's so cool about Tom ? the fact that he looks like a modern day reincarnation of Buddy Holly!! seriously put a guitar in that man's hands!!

@trexinvert You clearly have not been to downtown in awhile. There are over 50,000 residents living downtown now, including myself. It's changed a ton in the last 10 years.
Could it be moved to the new grounds at Lacma?
im jumping on a plane in in an hour to see the Triforium, this is one of the wonders of the world! like i wonder why? like LA sprawl why? like the token gesture one or two free street festivals in this or that part of LA, like why in my small city's downtown is dead except for the token gestures...life seems more and more unreal in a car centered society.
Are there any old high ceilinged parts of the sewer system that would be interesting. or maybe an old water drainage sytem underground? that would be cool to explore i guess.

As a kid, I used to go into various areas of old downtown with my mum, i.e. Grand Central Market, fabric shops, Michael's & the jewelry district
and even as a kid I thought this sculpture seemed odd and out of place! I still walk by it and I'm annoyed by it…
Somebody should destroy that thing.
I like a lot of modern sculptures, but not this one. I can understand why the LA artists hate it too.
