Thank you! Although we’re not originally from Scotland, we hopefully have lived here long enough (8 and 14 years) that we can pass on some accurate Scottish information! 🤭
@@OneJourneyAwaythat qualifies you as Scottish. Well done on your presentation. Also loads of hotels in Princess Street - at West End there is The Waldorf Astoria and on the East End The Balmoral (where the final Harry Potter book was written, plus where The Avengers Infinity War was shot).
Just watched this and 100% agree as a Scot too, excellent, sensible and completely accurate. So much better than the waffle some of these 'guides' spout!! Well done 'One Journey Away'
As a Scot who has resided in central Edinburgh for over 50 years (originally from the West Highlands) I was pleasantly surprised at how accurate and succinct this was. Bravo!
I visited for 8 days in May. I got around mostly on the bus. The public transport was so easy, loved it. Easy and cheap, the rides were capped at $6 a day so you really could ride unlimited.
As a Brit I think this information was bang on, the whole of the UK's weather can be very changeable so the the clothing information was not only right, but the best information you'll ever get
"the water is safe to drink". lol Never thought about that one, we have some of the best water anywhere in the world straight out the stream. I always wondered why people bought bottles of water until the first time I left Scotland. In Florida the water we got with our meal stank like ditch water even thought it looked clear.
Grew up in California. In Berkeley, they get their water straight from Yosemite, its wonderful. In Southern California, you HAVE to filter your water or buy it. Very sad.
Did you know about the city underneath Edinburgh? One place to get a tour of it is "Mary Kings Close" its below those BIG stairs between the train station and the castle.
Love everyone of your videos. To the point information that exactly required. You always do your in detailed research and your videos are beautifully edited with pitch perfect sound and your presentation skills are immaculate ! Everything about you and your videos are great. Well done. Very inspiring ❤
Thank you so much for such a detailed guide. Just went through all of your posts and videos, as I am planning my very first trip to Edinburgh this summer. This was very helpful 😊
Love love this! Instead of showing great places to visit, your video is answering all the questions about the basic things before even planning an itinerary. It will be great also if you include on transportation practical information like map of the train, where to get the card etc
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! We have a few other videos about how to get around Edinburgh (th-cam.com/video/9FBIx1RjbrY/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared) and how to get from the airport to the city centre (th-cam.com/video/9FBIx1RjbrY/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared), which you may find helpful!
Super helpful video!! Thank you. Didn't realize I might need a GB adapter. In fact, didn't know alot of this. Looking forward to bringing my son for a trip soon to the land of his ancestors.
Also, the Tram no longer stops at St. Andrew Square as it has now been extended to the northern most part of the city at Newhaven, where the Royal Yacht Brittania is berthed on the Firth of Forth. Might be useful to update your 'How to Get to Edinburgh City Centre from Edinburgh Airport' section.
Thanks Alan! We are aware that the tram line has been extended, although St Andrew Square remains a stop (it is York Place that has been removed), and is still valid in our airport to city centre video as we were only talking about going to the city centre 😅
Glad you enjoyed the video! Weather is one of those things you can’t ever be 100% sure about in Scotland - generally speaking though, November will likely feel more wintery temperature-wise, and you can usually expect more rain. Late September or October might be a better time if you’re looking for the autumn feel. Hope this helps!
What should I get that I can't get outside of Scotland. Whether it is experience trinkets. I enjoy Scotch whiskey. Distillery tours? Also like to buy rare Scotch whiskey
Glad you enjoyed the video! We don't usually explicitly recommend accommodation, but some 3* hotel chains that are usually of decent quality that you could look into are Ibis and Premier Inn. Hope you enjoy your visit when it comes!
Not sure if you got accommodation. Just wanted to say that renting in Edinburgh is far more expensive that somewhere like where I live in Falkirk, obviously you want to be in and around the city etc, its just that Falkirk is only a 30 minute train ride away from Edinburgh less if you're renting a car. People can save themselves a fortune by getting a hotel outside the city, Falkirk/Stirling places like that are right in the middle of the country. You get the best of everything, you get your busy city life and sites to see plus a more peaceful night/morning that isn't all rushed and busy, just thought it might be something to look at.
@@a.humphries8678 Can get really high depending on time of year, The fringe festival is on all August so prices go up, can be £80 a night for student accomodation, £10 return by train from Falkirk to Edinburgh or £5 in petrol (if that) and half that price for accomodation and you're saving a lot but getting the same service.
@@OneJourneyAway Thanks for letting me know, right at the start of your video when you are talking on The Royal Mile, even with all the crowds walking past in the background your voice comes over so clear. I hope that you enjoyed your time in Scotland, although a live on the west coast in Ayrshire, I do love my trips through to Edinburgh.

I am visiting Edinburgh mid August with two kids of age 9 year and 1.5 year for about a year duration. Can you help me what type of clothes should I bring.
Hey, The weather has been pretty rubbish in Scotland this summer. If you feel the cold quite easily, you might want to bring some slightly warmer clothes like a jumper or a hoodie. It has also been a bit rainy; pack a waterproof jacket just in case. I've had a wee look at the forecast, and for the 13/14th Aug it's saying 18 to 19 degrees celsius which is actually quite good for here. As was mentioned in the video, our weather is quite unpredictable - one minute it can be sunny and the next minute it's raining. Hope you have a lovely trip :)
The only way to buy tickets for multiple people by card on the bus is to buy paper tickets with contactless. So when you get on the bus, you would tell the driver that you need, for example, 2 adult single and 2 child single tickets, and when the driver tells you to, tap your card. Make sure not to just tap your card on the contactless pad without talking to the driver because that would only be for a single adult ticket! Hope this helps!
I travelled up to Edinburgh from London by train! The great thing about coming by train is you come straight into the city centre! The train company LNER takes you from London’s Kings Cross to Edinburgh Waverley (the main train station). Hope this helps!
Edinburgh’s Black Cab Taxi fleet is brilliant. Gradually turning electric, Knowledge exam drivers, and a meter so NO price gouging/surging like the American mini cab lot. Airport to City is £20-£25 depending on time/traffic.
There is also a direct tram service from the airport to the city centre and beyond which is faster and cheaper (only if there are a minimun ot two passengers - 3 or more can cab share for the same price as a tram ride) otherwise no need to fork out a fortune on taxis if it's not economic.
