In Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, there's a boulevard called the Malecon runs along the shoreline. On Sundays, part of it is closed to traffic and it becomes a seaside urban park -- food vendors, street soccer and basketball games, music, artists selling their work. Couples, families come out and stroll, kids play and skate, couples flirt. It's a great time. The new 6th Street Viaduct would be ideal for that.

Lots of actual Boyle Heights residents didn’t know about the opening, nor were they allowed in once they found out. Hopefully moving forward it’ll be accessible to all not just the arts district folks. Also, very irresponsible of you to inform viewers to park in Boyle heights and then venture into the Arts district via the bridge, why burden the residents with already difficult parking situation?

It’s beautiful, but I will say that it’s surprising to see how many irregularities in color and texture there are in the concrete arches themselves. The renderings show smooth, sealed textures that give the bridge a clean look, but it almost looks like these are supports for a parking garage or a frame of a building that will be covered in glass later. With a $588M price tag, I was expecting that they would be able to avoid rough patches, dark spots, and veins in the concrete. Still a beautiful bridge, but it will be interesting to see if they address this.
