I'm loving my Strikemaster 24V auger so far. Sold the ol' clam plate and auger and got a killer deal on it! Thanks for the input on this auger, it helped me pull the trigger when they went on clearance this month!

I'm glad there are people like you, that can fish without thousands of dollars worth of ice fishing equipment ❤

As somebody who doesn't own an electric auger yet I found this video very informative. Thanks for posting!

You are not alone! I know many people who (are probably right, but for different reasons than this😂😂😂) think and say that I am crazy, but I prefer ice fishing over open water. (Of course part of that is because I don’t own a boat, so out on ice I can cover more area to find fish than I can while shore fishing.)
But here’s my story, I bought the 24v because during 2021 when we had lockdowns and while supply chain issues were much more prevalent, it was the only auger I could find locally to replace my propane auger that was stolen from storage unit. I didn’t know it was stolen until I was headed out of town to meet a friend to go fishing and stopped by storage unit to find it gone.
I was nervous about only 24v for battery life and the lyte flyte plastic parts, but now 2 years later (third season of use), those fears were thankfully unfounded! No regrets whatsoever!!! Never had an issue with battery life or problems with the auger blades. I admit, I don’t run and gun as much as others so I have never drilled 50+ holes ever…. Often times less than 20 holes, but have on occasion popped 30-40.
If I were going to consistently pop 50+ holes and was concerned about battery life, I guess I’d be more prone to buy a second battery to carry along which runs about $100+, instead of $500-600 for a 40v…

I'm just seeing this in Jan. 2025 and I'm now convinced that this is the ice auger for me. I'm tired of lugging around my 33 lbs. gas Eskimo Ice Auger (which served me well over 15 years) but now it's time to upgrade and embrace this technology! Great video BTW. Amazon is selling the 8in. version for $299 and I think I'm going to buy.

I'm on my sixth year, I believe using a DeWalt DCD 991 (not hammer model) and I have it on a clam plate. Some people laugh about having a clam plate but i love being able to set it on the ice and not worry about the drill being on the ice or the drills torque literally ripping my arm away as it gets thru the ice! With that said, if i have the money once the drill goes caput I would go with the Strikemaster 24 volt for where I live. I can get about 30 holes, maybe more thru a foot of ice easily with my current setup but I'd rather have the tool that is designed for ice fishing, just as you stated. Thanks for the review!

Let’s hope the lakes in the MidWest freeze so people can ice fish this year. I just drove from Michigan to Milwaukee over to Madison Wisconsin and didn’t see a single lake that was frozen enough to fish.

You gotta try the new ION Alpha Plus with the composite flights (not sponsored). It ways roughly the same as the SM 24v but tears through 2” of ice every second. I used mine for 2 days and it still showed a full charge on the battery. I would still be using my k-drill if it hadn’t my snapped the spindle on my drill, but the fishing gods work in strange and mysterious ways.

Borrowed one of these 24V augers the other day. Lake had 26" of ice. Owner had drilled 15 holes before I got there. Temperature was 35 degrees. I blew thru 10 holes like it was nothing. Amazing little auger. I am ordering one pronto. So looking for best deal I can find.

Current powerheads that I know for ice fishing are Redback, Ion, Jiffy, Strikemaster, and Ryobi, though I don't know if Ryobi had an ice auger or earth auger only.

Staring at my 40v 10 inch chipper with extension from the comfort of my Yetti and was thinking about the smaller one for early season. She gets heavy after drilling in the house through thick ice pulling it straight out and clearing the slush bucket. I'll agree ice fishing is rough on yah.

Someday I'll upgrade, but I like cost efficiency by using something that's made me over 6 figures. I don't have much space for tools and toys, and I work next to where I play....

So I pull my sled manually.. like on foot with a sled… I’ve been useing a drill adapted auger…. Went fishing yesterday drilled about 15 holes .., and today my wrist hurts so bad I can hardley use a fork to eat with… Bass pro had this “24v strikemaster with the light flight” $399.. I can’t wait to throw it in my sled and go back out in a couple days.. after my wrist heals and give it a whirl..! So the only difference from it and the 40v.. is literally 50 holes.. I’m not drilling 50 holes anyway.. and it’s 10lbs lighter..!!! Can’t wait to use it..!! I’m getting older and the Arthritis is kinda givin me issues… between the military and all the hard jobs I’ve had in my life.. i hurt kinda.. so hopefully this is the ticket for Me…! A lot of research and thanks for your help as well..!!

Get the Green Works battery 24V and save some money! It needs one small modification to it and there are TH-cam videos on how to do it. Works great and it has a USB port on it!

My buddy has this auger, he has had it for 2 seasons and it drills 8-10(14ish inches of ice) holes then its dead, and batteries are $100-$120.

Grab the magnetic snap cover that strike master came out with. Worth the $25 bucks.
I’m still a drill guy if you would like to auger race again 😊

I have the 8 inch 24 volt and I can drill 25 to 30 holes and never run out of battery thru 18 to 20 inches of ice.

Those 40V have so much torque yah I can understand how you'd mess up your bicep in time, yikes! And I basically don't have a bicep tendon anymore, I tore it lifting something wrong one time so I had surgery. I cannot lift certain objects straight up or else it hurts like hell!

Just go on line and look up green works landscape equipment like hedge trimmers and chain saws, they have the same cases, Identical looking in every way plus green works gives a 3 year warranty.
