      For the record, bourbon is still whiskey. For a whiskey to be called bourbon, it must meet five criteria:
      1. Made in the United States
      2. Minimum of 51% corn in the mash bill
      3. Aged in NEW charred oak barrels at 125 proof or less
      4. Minimum 80 proof in the bottle
      5. No additives except water to adjust proof. Not even artificial coloring.

    • @xaruan
      @xaruan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +62

      It is supposed to have simple syrup. What they made was not a proper mint julep.
      I find 2:1 ratio of bourbon to simple syrup is good. Easy to make dangerously smooth juleps. Muddle mint at bottom. A lot of crushed ice. Big sprigs of mint to garnish. No splash of water.

    Anyone who says an old fashioned isn't made with bourbon is an idiot. An old fashioned is made with any whiskey you want. Bourbon is a type of whiskey. I prefer a rye old fashioned, because I don't like bourbon.
    Also, a Manhattan was originally made with rye, not bourbon. But, as with an old fashioned, you can make it with whatever kind of whiskey you want. It's basically a modified old fashioned, substituting sweet vermouth for the sugar and water. Also, also, that Manhattan recipe was a variant rather than the original. A "traditional" Manhattan doesn't use orange bitters. I would have suggested trying a "Perfect Manhattan" which uses half sweet vermouth, half dry vermouth.
    Ciara asking if the bourbon sour was a Tom Collins...yes, pretty much. The bourbon sour is just made with bourbon instead of gin, and it doesn't have soda water.

    It's funny. Growing up in Missouri, these drinks were always around at family gatherings. Mostly my granparents loved them. As such, I am very familiar with them. But a few years ago, when a friend returned from a visit to Ireland, he introduced me to Jameson with Ginger Ale, my mind was blown. I remember thinking, "OMG! They mix their Jameson?" Needless to say, there hasn't been a summer since during which I have not enjoyed a few Jameson-Gingers on the back deck. The cultural exchange of alcohol consumption... such a delight.

    *Deep Breath* OK, "whiskey" is generally defined as any spirit distilled from grain which is then aged in wooden barrels. Thus; bourbon is whiskey, Scotch is whiskey, Rye is whiskey, they all just use different grains in different proportions and are aged in different barrels. Bourbon is aged in charred new American oak, scotch is usually aged in barrels that once held bourbon, there's all kinds of variety within the category but IT IS ALL WHISKEY (OR WHISKY, WHATEVER).
