Chris Asipyan hi was just wondering if the screws that you used to install the handle instead of glueing it or melting it we’re already with the vehicle or did u purchase them aswell
Thanks Chris! Now I’m going to officially rip off the multi layers of paper towel that’s covering the sticky son of a handle and attempt to finally do what you have shown me is possible without going to the dealership. For those of you asking, no, there are currently no recalls for this defect! This isn’t considered a safety issue so there will not be one administered for it since it’s “cosmetic”. My handle is black so without it being completely covered, my passengers (who are clients) end up with black BMW goo on their hands AND clothes as parting gifts! That sticky son of a handle is going down.... literally..... because as soon as I take it off the door I’m throwing it across the street into the Creek once I pry it loose from my fingers!
Did this today. Very easy to do. There is another video which shows how to disconnect everything inside the door panel, which I recommend. Taking all the way off makes it easier to work on.
Thanks so much for the video. I am not a "car guy" at all, but your video gave me the courage to take this project on to fix my wife's car. The passenger sticky handle was a source of constant frustration for her. Only a couple observations. If you completely chisel off the heads of those plastic rivets from the old door handle, you don't have to drill anything. You can simply push those rivet stubs through, I hammered a phillips head screwdriver to punch them out. That way you don't take a chance on accidentally increasing the diameter of the hole. The other thing has to do with removing those screws. You went from a screwdriver to a wrench, but I found that an impact wrench with a torx bit and bit extender made it easy and quick. The main thing, however, is that without your video I would never have tried this fix and it came out great. The color match (tan in my case) is not exact, but the result is still WAY better than the sticky mess that was there and I didn't have to pay BMW the $1,000 they wanted to replace the handle. Thank you!
I know it's been a long time since you made this comment, unfortunately I do not remember the details about the screws I used. Perhaps others can chime in on this for anyone needing help in the future
Merci 🙏
Great video! I've been putting off doing this for a while now but after watching your DIY I think I'm gonna go for it! Question though: you said the outer handle was actually still ok and not sticky, and you could have reused it. Do you think if you did, would it have fit better than the replacement? You mentioned there was a gap that didn't really sit flush at the top, so I'm wondering if it's better to reuse the original outer part? Thanks!
Shout out to BMW for the shitty quality door handles coupled with an incredibly complex set of steps to replace it. So glad I spent $50k on this “German engineering”. This is my first and last BMW.

@@ricardomarquez8811 it came with the part I ordered
also just a side note for removing the door harness. simply pull upwards from the bottom to remove the entire assembly without force required. lol
Is there a recall on the door handles?
@@Br0knt0ilets3at I don't believe so. I have not received any recall notice about it yet.
thanks for the video! what I don't understand is how BMW haven't put a final solution to this issue and also not covering it by recall.
:/ I agree
Funny thing is. They use the same stuff to this day. 😅

Yes, this with th-cam.com/video/FFHBLf1-RBI/w-d-xo.html is great. Detaching and reconnecting the cables is easy and recommended.
Nice! Thanks for the insight

Glad to see my melting handle is not the only one
Yup, this is a big problem for these particular cars.
Thanks for your suggestion of using the chair! I need to invest money in a better drill because it took forever plus I didn’t have any large bits.
You're welcome!
Hey buddy!! Facing this task as well lol. Great video.
Thanks
Thanks for the instructions. Very helpful. Got it done pretty easily. Not really a DIY’er so this gave me a lot of confidence.
Nice 👍
Thanks for the video. Helped out a lot. I even did the chair deal which made doing this a lot easier then unplugging everything.

The two small screws you put on the inside of the door panel to hold the door handle, What type of screws and what size are they ?
Great video btw 👍

This worked very well, thanks bro 😎

Are the rear door handles the same as the front?
No, you will want to make sure you get the specific door handle for the front/rear and left/right.

The thing is.. I never tried to clip the bottom part onto the outer handle.. so I'm not fully sure if they would clip together
@@ChrisAsipyan ok thank you! I appreciate the reply, I'll just order both pieces, maybe I'll get lucky and they will fit flush!
Cheers for the vid, bro
Thanks!
Just want to let you know that the outer part does deteriorate as well
Well that sucks :/
How do we know it won't happen again after we replace it?
True... Depending on the quality of the new part.. it's possible it can happen again. So far, mine is still working.
@@ChrisAsipyan great, I just bought the parts you recommended, thank you!
This guy went out & bought everything new for the video 😂
Thanks!
top bit clicked in on mine but took some effort, you have to really push it on.
Yup!
Why didn’t they use washer screws from factory to mount the handle ?! 😂
It must be cheaper to just have the robots melt them into place.

Totally agree! A lot of what their “Engineers” design on the BMWs make me wander what they drink in their kool-aid!
Why would a fucking handle melt😠
I agree :) I have recently sold my BMW and have never looked back.

You're welcome!
Worst door handle design ever
I agree!
