thank you for being so vulnerable on here Dr Lauren-Jane, it cannot be an easy decision and thats what makes us human. i have seen you on Dr Sarah's YT channel and followed you he're, so new subbie. Majority of us working in health care can relate with your situation thankfully, you've picked it up before others did and there is no shame in so doing. Try and exercise self-compassion and this too shall pass ❤x
remember, your mental health is your number-one priority, i remind myself this everyday when i can barely manage to get off the bed and put on that social mask that we've all mastered perfectly! ❤x

Thank you! I think the nature of health care pushes us beyond our limits (almost by design) and it’s really difficult to step away and say, “I need a minute” but we need to do that for ourselves and our patients

Thank you for discussing this and being so open an honest. Surgical training and family life are so difficult to combine, so much needs to change to be inclusive to families and mothers.. I am only in my 4th year of medical school (as a mum of 2) and I would absolutely love to pursue surgery but I am seeing the reality of it and the kind of sacrifices that are expected- not just of us but also our children... Yes, it's doable but at what cost? And like you've mentioned, this culture of feeling shame for taking time off. Our well-being needs to be a priority. For this reason I am leaning more towards GP training at this point. I hope your Trust will find a way to support you and make it work! You are brilliant!

Thank you, yes it can be so hard. The thing for me has always been that this is the speciality I love and the day to day is fine, it's the training pathway - in fact not even the training pathway, its getting onto the training pathway that's the issue. It needs fixing!! I hope med school is going well

You cannot be perfect. If they expect you to be perfect, they are asking for disappointment. It's easy to spend someone else's health and someone else's time. As a fellow doctor oh I absolutely get it and my deepest respect.

Had insomnia many, many times. It's hideous. 7am would come round and I'd just been awake all night, unable to relax enough to stop thinking and sleep.

      It’s the worst! So isolating!
