  • One of Chopin's most sombre pieces, with both technical and musical challenges intergrated into this study on touch. Personally, this is my favourite Chopin etude alongside Op. 25 No.5 which I will upload in the future as well.
    Enjoy

    The piece: heartrending
    The marked tempo: nice

This tempo feels really natural and allows for more control of the melodic lines.

Beautifully done. Does anyone actually follow Chopin's metronome marking? It seems too fast to me. I've never heard it played at that speed.

thank you, I believe that Paul Barton recorded a version of this etude at the original tempo. It sounds very relentless/anxious, and I could understand if Chopin had wanted this effect, esspecially considering that this is an etude. I chose a tempo that is slightly faster than most recordings (I feel that many pianists, esspeically modern ones drag this etude too much) in order to create some of the anxious effect, but not fast enough to lose the melancholy that a slower tempo brings which is very meaningful to me.

@@YUYANG_music Thanks very much! I did notice that you played it slightly faster than most. Works very well!

@@YUYANG_music Paul Barton's version at this speed is on TH-cam (along with others of his at more usual tempos). He labels it as experimental. He certainly makes it work. I don't think there's any one way to play this piece (nor should there be).

@@angreagach I agree, every pianist should have their own unique way of playing music, esspeically for pieces like these
