    Alan Kalter's celebrity interviews always made me chortle. Actually, Alan Kalter was probably an underrated star of the Late Show.

      I’m told there’s a complete collection elsewhere on the TH-cam, and it includes the full De Niro/Hoffman segment.

      Big Red was never underrated. He was an increasingly integral and very beloved member of the Letterman universe.

    I was a writer's intern at the Late Show in 2009 or so. I was very nervous and overwhelmed to be there didn't really know how to fit in. Lee was one of the nicest people there.

    Anytime they did something like the hose with coffee from Starbucks, and I’d be watching the progress the coffee in the hose was making across the street toward Dave’s desk, I would just feel how amazing it was that this was happening, and how lucky I was to be able to watch it.

    • @OMGWTFLOLSMH
      @OMGWTFLOLSMH ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I felt something similar when the Berlin wall came down, but the coffee hose was definitely better.

    this really speaks to how the writers rooms' must be. The idea of pitching stuff that you think has like a 1% chance of getting thru the first round of cuts and the next thing you know, there's the Randy Quaid Keebler elf. But for my money, the Ravenscroft joke is perfect! Damn, that's funny.

    I'd like to hear the story of how Lee worked his way up from CBS Page to a writer.

    • @billscheftyoutube
      @billscheftyoutube ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It was more common than not for people to work their way up. Barbara Gaines started as a receptionist in 1980 and finished as Executive Producer. Lee, Jeremy Weiner, Tommy Ruprecht, Matt Roberts, Jill Goodwin and Rob Burnett (among many others) came through the college intern program and worked in other departments before they became writers. The best way to learn how to write for the show was to work for the show.
