Dear Lisa, I have been a subscriber for several years and I always felt you came across as a kind, empathetic and mature woman. The way the woman in the elevator was described and dissected was not with the maturity of a 50 year old woman who would have a mature perspective. It was not kind. Nor was it empathetic. It was tactless and it made me disappointed in the lack of kindness. I was once a single mother juggling a couple of jobs. I painted my nails to make an effort. I lacked the time and energy to always look 100% polished. If I had the inkling that people judged me this way, I would have been devestated. Not to mention that some people can only afford used purses or shoes, especially in this financial climate.
I would ask of you Lisa for some perspective and true empathy towards others. We all deserve this little from strangers who don't know us.

“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way that she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides.
True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.
It's the caring that she lovingly gives and the passion that she shows.
And the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years.”

I always keep in mind especially clientele like victims of domestic violence, homeless populations, less fortunate, etc that what they have on may be all they have to their name. So I don’t see them for what they are wearing I see them for the beautiful person that they are. Unfortunately we can’t all be as fortunate as others. God looks at the heart not the outer person. I know your channel is style and by no means am I judging you. I am just saying you never know where that other person is coming from. Acceptance and a smile can go a long way. Feeling someone cares and values them may just save a life. Or at least give them a glimmer of hope to keep going to empower themselves for something greater in life.

The evaluation of the woman on the elevator broke my heart. To assume that the only valid reason for not dressing/grooming as you see fit is because someone doesn't feel well is to assume that we all have the same value system - we do not. Perhaps she just does not care about clothing and prefers to put her time and energy into helping homeless people, serving orphaned children, or helping widows. Perhaps her value system has her wanting to make meaningful changes in the world rather than worry about her clothes. I'm not sure as many people care about being 'stylish' as influencers think.

Exactly. You obviously made this video with good intentions, as a fashion lover, for other fashion lovers. If YOU left the house looking like the women you described negatively, YOU would feel “sad” or like “something is wrong”. But to insinuate that THEY feel that way because they look frumpy (in your opinion) …that’s just projecting your own feelings onto them. They may not care, they may be completely happy, they may have just been in a rush that day, they may have different priorities from you…the pity isn’t necessary.
But again, I’m a long time subscriber and I know you have good intentions…just wish you would have left the photos/descriptions of other women out of this. Makes it feel a little icky.

While I do not believe it was certainly not your intention, but you came across as mean spirited when talking about the lady in the elevator. Perhaps you should have introduced yourself and offered to take her shopping for a new outfit. And, in regard to ladies who clutch their shoulder bags, we do that to hold the straps on our shoulders. Were you making fun of us? I can just say I am surprised and disappointed in the tone of this video.

I have watched you for a long time, but I have to say I'm disappointed in this video. While I am sure your intentions are good, you come across very judgmental, especially when you described the woman in the elevator. I'm not sure she asked you for your opinion of her and what you did and said is exactly why women for the most part are not united. The woman on the elevator is probably like me, she has a busy life, working, taking care of her family, and other things. Maybe she is a single mom trying to make ends meet. We can't all sit in the lap of luxury like you, Lisa and look down on others. Some of us have things to do and it's really hurtful that you would be so judgmental. Things are hard enough right now and some of us don't have the luxury to sit around and contemplate ourselves. Some of us are going through a lot and are just trying to get through the day. You just came across with a complete lack of empathy. Like you have never struggled a day in your life. Think twice before you judge other people. This video literally ticked me off with you. You say you want to help women, but you just come across witchy, and rude. Total lack of maturity. Not a good look on you, Lisa.

There are so many things I want to say and respond to in this vIdeo! My personal style is very different than yours but I USUALLY enjoy your videos and look past the fact that in my opinion you try way to hard. If I was judging you I might even say there must be something lacking in your life or point out your less than perfect aura, I love my athletic style. I am not chasing anyone else’s style. I hate high heels. If I was judging you I would say the kitten heels you wear look awful. But that would not make you feel very good. I will just leave it set right there. You say the shoes that probably have the “ imprint” left when she takes them off but then praise Birkenstocks. Hmmmm my pricey Birkenstocks definitely have my footprints embedded in them and they go great with my style. I could have easily been the woman in the elevator. While my husband was on his deathbed this summer and spent 3 months in the hospital at Duke where he had an emergency heart transplant you would have seen me in the elevator wearing a sweatshirt that was a 2xl (because it was on clearance in the gift shop), comfortable shorts and a pair of slides with compression socks which I also bought in the gift shop because my feet and ankles were swelling so much from living in an ICU room for months. Here is the thing I could really care less if you think I looked frumpy but I don’t need anyones pity because my aura seems off or sad. I rarely make comments on videos good or bad but this one just rubbed me the wrong way. I think because your description of the woman was so very specific. You have been thinking about her, she really got in your head. I wonder why. If I had to guess I think you will be carrying her around with you for a long time.

You have such a wonderful way of speaking from the heart. I noticed a lot of comments about the woman in the elevator. I didn't take it as unkind at all - I think what you are saying is that you want our outward appearance to reflect an optimistic, joyful aspect of our personality instead of the sad, tired aspect. And I appreciate your suggestions for how to do that. Your videos are informative and fun. Thank you! ❤

Correct, we should not judge others...as many in the comments point the finger for the very thing they are doing themselves. ("He who is without sin, throw the first stone"). That aside, what I get from this video is Lisa sharing her tips on how to not look frumpy. I also heard her state, wear what makes you feel good. I do not feel this video is for that person who does not care about their appearance or Style. That person would not be watching. Nor did she say anything about spending lots of money. All of us here can look in the mirror and say whether or not we feel good about how we look. If you do 🙋‍♀️ awesome, if you do not then make changes. Maybe you did not agree with some aspects of delivery, that's fine. But do not judge her if you felt she was judging. I know I am stylish and got it going on at 48 😁🤭 and even when I leave the house in my sweats and sneakers, I am clean, coordinated, styled and intentional (btw, I work in a Warehouse as a forklift driver and still plan my outfits). This novel just to say, there is always a better way to get your message across but I trust that this is Lisa still having a love for women and wanting them to feel their best.

I have been in this slump many times. I fall for fast fashion, then I fall for trendy fashion, then I hoard clothing from huge sales, only to turn around and donate most of it.
It's always a vicious cycle. I realized buying fast fashion is just a waste of time and money.
I started recognizing what I reach for a feel most comfortable in.
I also realized what colors suit me best., which are whites, creams. Tans, beige.
So now I shop those colors.
I also now shop for my style only.
I work outside the home in a school, so I'm most comfortable in leggings, tank tops, shells, short sleeve sweaters, with coordinating cardigans over top.
It's easy and simple and I don't have to overthink things in the morning.
I've decluttered my closet of thousands of dollars of styles and pieces I never wore because most of it was impulse buying.
I'm also thrifting pieces now. Higher end classic pieces that stand the test of time and timeless. I only have about 35 pieces in my wardrobe now but they are quality over quantity , and classic and I can mix and match easily for dozens of looks

The prime reason we end up looking frumpy is weight gain around the waist and boobs. When I was overweight I just had to wear both wide jeans and a baggy top for comfort. No way I wanted to show my shape! Now I am getting back my feminine shape I look way better in clothes. The same outfit looks radically different on different shapes. Same with shoes. If you are heavy heels and smaller shoes are painful.

I don’t see how companies choose “influencers” to represent them although in her case, it’s mostly Walmart. On the other hand, the woman you mentioned not looking so good is probably someone just trying to get by in this awful economy. One an influencer who has no style/taste. The other sounds like she’s struggling. Big difference.

I am guilty of this. I went through cancer treatment this year and when I lost my hair, eyebrows and eyelashes and gained weight all I wanted to do was hide myself under big, baggy athleisure wear. I just wanted to hide and not be noticed because of how I felt about my physical appearance.
Now that my eyebrows and eyelashes have grown back and I have a short pixie hairstyle I am starting to gain a little more confidence. I don't feel 100% like myself anymore but it's getting better. I bought a couple of new dresses for summer and a few new makeup bits to inspire me to make an effort again with my appearance even though I don't always want to. Great video Lisa.

Those " frumpy" or baggy clothes you wore should not be seen negative! They gave you the comfort and tactile support you needed during a very difficult time in your life. Sometimes comfort makes for a better and happier person then trying too hard. After a certain age one should not worry about impressing others or what other people think. We need to stop judging and taking inventory of ourselves.

Holy crap ladies! Talk about missing the point! I’ve watched many of Lisa’s videos & she always comes across as empathetic & trying to genuinely help women find the best version of themselves from a fashion standpoint. Using the example of the women at the elevator was to illustrate that if we can put in the effort, we should. She did say that she thought there was something going on with her so that her appearance wasn’t a priority. The point was, as you’ve obviously missed it, was that if you can put the best you forward, do it. If you’re not able to, you’re not able to. I'm surprised to see so many offended women in the comments. I have also been the woman in the elevator.... I've been dirt poor, suffering PPD, weight gain and just feeling not like myself for years. Lisa has helped me find myself again in many ways. She's helped give me many ideas about how to look good without having to spend a lot of money. I agree with many women that true adornment and beauty should be internal and that God doesn't care about appearances, but I also believe that we should make the best of what God has given us. To each their own in how much one embraces one's femininity. I thought it was rather nasty to see so many women feeling justified to tear Lisa down, judging her in return and assuming her intentions about the woman in the elevator. Lisa has been nothing but genuine and sweet. I can agree that maybe her conclusion of "the woman letting herself go" could have been short-sighted and inaccurate to the woman's situation but who is to know? When I was the woman in the elevator I didn't have the time, means of transportation, money or energy to even get to a Walmart to buy new clothing for a couple of years and had to make due with rags, holes in my clothes, clothes that were inappropriate for the season (freezing while walking to work with no winter coat), ill-fitting (no money for maternity clothes so just had to make due.... etc... but I truly believe that if I had met Lisa in that elevator and told her and that if she asked what I was going through that she would have met me with endless empathy, and no judgement at all. She probably would have offered me a bag of some makeup that didn't work for her too! lol overall, I think that Lisa could have been inaccurate in her assessment, but that doesn't mean that she was being mean-spirited, judgmental, rude or hateful. I do believe she is truly trying to help us in a way in which she is very gifted. That last suggestion about Walmart leggings, a mens sweatshirt, etc was so good and I'm going to have to pick up that outfit asap! Thanks for everything Lisa! xo

Thank you for your candor. I was one that gave up several years ago after a few life changing events.
I started watching TH-cam for paint/design inspiration and stumbled upon a few fashion, makeup, skincare influencers for women over 40. I was gobsmacked that I had become apathetic in my appearance. I purged my closet (donated) and created simple stylish outfits from closet inventory. I ordered items from Sephora to add to my basic look. Final step was hair ~ just long enough that I always pulled back in a darn hair tie. Highlighted, growing out, and only silk scrunchie at night. I feel more confident and am enjoying life so much more.
Your humor, love of your family, and nod to Diet Coke make you one of my favorites to watch.

Hi Lisa! You have some really good ideas here and it really hit home with me. I moved from sunny FL to Portland, OR 3 1/2 years ago. Shortly after I got here the Covid pandemic hit and I was cut off from the world. I got to the point I was wearing sweats all the time and didn’t even bother with makeup. I was in a huge downward spiral and it was really difficult for me to spin out of it. I missed my friend and family, I missed my FL sunshine and depression was setting in. I had a talk with myself and made a decision that every day I was going to work out and then shower up, put on makeup and put on a nice outfit, nothing fancy but look pretty when my fellow came home. My mental health really started improving when I did all of that. Your outer appearance does truly often reflect what you are feeling and going thru. Putting a little effort in your appearance can help change that outlook as well. Thank you for your happy demeanor and cheerfulness and the good tips you bring to the table. Be blessed!!!

Brublondie1~Same here! Initially moving to the PNW from sunny S0-Calif was quite an adjustment. Especially when we can get anywhere from 7-9 months of rainfall! But, slowly over time I grew a great appreciation for the abundance of nature's beauty offered throughout the seasons. Now I look forward to the autumnal foliage and the occasional snowfall.
      Enjoy,
      Sara

Coco Chanel said that, Lisa! Ahaha I always think I have too much going on eve time I go out. She was classy because she wore simple, practical and high quality clothes. I always think of her when buying clothes.
