Unpopular opinion…Quiet luxury is not really a trend and has been around for decades. Someone on the internet coined the term to differentiate it from the more ostentatious or outwardly flaunting of labels or wealth. In fact, most of the true quiet luxury probably isn’t seen on social media where luxury (or anything) is rarely quiet.😂

This was going to be my exact comment! Quiet luxury is classy- am I the only one that thinks showy logos are tacky? If you actually have money, you don't wear that. That was created for people who want others to think they have money.

The difference is "money" times are hard and women want to still look nice but don't want to spend the money, especially single Mothers. Spending excessively these days to them is being wasteful when they have kids to raise and groceries are at an all time high! I think the quiet luxury is a way of keeping the look and saving the money.

The older I get the more I’m interested in quality and classic pieces. I actually hate the word “classy.” Too many variables. It’s more about kindness, manners and how someone treats people. Someone could be dressed head to toe in designer clothes but if they aren’t kind it all doesn’t matter.

Your words are the definition of classy. Wealth and designer labels have nothing to do with class. It’s taking the best care of your self, you can, living with dignity, treating others with kindness and having manners. Those traits will get you so much further than flashy, expensive labels.

I owned a boutique for many years and when folks would see me out, they always assumed I had on some high end designer piece. The funniest time was when I was out of town, totally unplanned without clothes so had to go to the only open store in that town (Rue 21??). When I met people (bunch of prestigious snobs) out for dinner, in my $29 dress, they all thought it was some damn Gucci dress!😂😂😂😂. This is a true story that just goes to show how people do try to judge by a cover and they couldn’t be more wrong!!

Yes! Yes! Yes! Everyone’s individuality and authenticity is what makes life interesting. One can look classy with vibrant colors and with flair as long as they reflect their own style. How sad to think people are being persuaded to tone down there personal style, much like our society is telling us to tone down our own personal opinion. Viva la difference!!!

Both my parents are from generational wealth and I remember I made friends with this girl. Her mom didn’t have any college education and her dad was a construction worker that owned a company. That company was doing quite well. They clearly had a middle class background. I was in 6th grade. My parents tried to do things as couples/ families but my dad said they were not on the same level. Dad said we were “old money” and they were “new money” and my dad was annoyed by them. After a while Stacy started to annoy me and I quietly stopped being her friend. It got super weird at the country
      Club and school but…
The new money v old money is a REAL thing.

Lisa is without a doubt one of the most authentic, kind, funny and incredibly intelligent women Ive had the great pleasure to meet over the years on social media. When she deciedes shes interested in a topic she somehow gains an encylopedic level knowledge around that topic which I immdiately was drawn too, well that and her very open love for her parents, her husband, her children and God. I hope when you have some time you maybe take a look around her massive library of videos, while she is definitly known for her Friday hauls of beauty and fashion the true Lisa is the smart badass who doesnt have to shout from the tree tops how smart she is, come to think of it...instead of "quiet luxury", Lisa is "quiet intelligence".

I think “classy” or perhaps any other style is in the eye of the beholder. I’ve actually never heard the term “quiet luxury”, but I say to each his own. Like my grandmother always said, “pretty is as pretty does”. I think kind, open minded, open hearted people are probably pretty classy❤️

I have a few of the brands. The quality is what makes you look rich. The clothes hang in flattering ways, the fabrics are sensuous, the colours subtle and rich. Lining where needed to smooth the outline and well sewn seams, more shaping with darts. It all makes you look like a super model.

Life is short, I personally don’t care about these types of things that go around. I think as I’ve gotten older I’ve realized it just doesn’t matter. Everyone should do what makes them feel good and be happy with who they are. We are all different and what’s important to one person, may not be to another. I think the most beautiful thing in a person isn’t what they choose to wear, but how they treat others. Lisa your style is you and you do it so well. Stay true to who you are and that’s all that matters. That’s why I always come back, because of who you are on the inside, the rest is just a nice bonus. 💜 Thank you for sharing this, it was interesting and fun.🌸💕

I have been in fashion for most of my adult life, over 25 years witth another 8 focusing on a broader range of retailers and systems. I was a private shopper as a side hustle in my 30's when I was also a Dr. in a fashion company. I have always loved fashion and beauty. I grrew up fairly poor in a small farming town with only the Sears catelogue to shop from, I was overweight my entire childhood so most of my clothes my Mom made. In the summer between grade 8 and 9 I lost a fair bit of weight, I could finally wear a regular size large or a 12/14. There was one small boutique in the town where my Mother was the Librarian and I went to school. By then I worked every night, after school, all weekend, and the entire summer, so I had a good amount of money saved up.
I will never ever forget the night my Mom picked me up from my job and said that Susan, the shop owner, had agreed that my Mom and I could go in and have a look after hours. I was thrilled. I remember crying in the change room as for the first time in my life I was putting on clothes that some of the "in girls" in my school where wearing. This was the 70's and Hang Ten was all the range. I remember getting a Hang Ten short set in purple, mauve matching Nike running shoes and several other things. I was over joyed. The first day of grade 9 was the first time in about 6 years I didnt have a cold sore on the 1st day of school. I developed those very young due to such high anxiety about returning to school.
Fashion and our personal relationship with clothes, what and how we choose to dress is extremley personal, for a thousand reasons why. I've just shared a tiny snippet of why I have such a love affair with fashion, shopping, taking so much time and care to pick out things that make ME feel my best, not someone else, ME. The women that I did personal shopping for where Lawyers, one was a Judge and two were doctors, they despised shopping, absolutely despised it, they had very different relationships with their clothes and again, for their own personal reasons, one I will share with you. Despite being a brilliant woman who graduated top of her class and is in the top of her field she was bullied mercilessly in school for her looks, her style. She never really got over that. Clothes to her do not bring her any joy what so ever, she is so much more comfortable in the uniform required to do her job, but hey...she has to wear something, so enter a personal stylist and shopper, me.
We all have a different and unique relationship with clothing and makeup and how we look, and how we feel the most comfortable in our own skin. The richest people in the world may not have any confidence in their looks, despite being able to own their own island and many homes etc. It is short sighted for anyone to think that the most wealthy people in this world have so much confidence they just want to wear "quiet" styles. Wrong. Many dress that way because in reality, all the money in the world cannot fix a lifetime of being told you are not attractive or you are not smart or you will never make it on your own.
This nonsense about quiet luxury is just that, nonsense. It is just one more made up term to throw around social media, new fodder for those who think they are to good to wear a visable label and to be insufferably ostentacious about it while throwing around "quiet luxury" as some sort of superiority complex, its ridicilous and laughable.
If a person have to get on social media to look down on anyone for how they choose to dress or wear their makeup, then that person needs to check the mirror. Real class is knowing when and how to keep "inside thoughts" inside, people who were either taught how to be "classy" as children or learned it along the way, already know this.
Being kind is the common denominator that knows no wealth boundaries. The wealthiest people in this world are some of the most classless and some of the most empoverishd have it to spare. Thanks for coming to my unintended by not unispired, Ted Talk on the fake "quiet luxury" and what class really is, which is kindness, which costs not a single solitary cent.

I am sick, sick, sick of "quiet luxury"! I have had decades of the corporate world, void of personality, void of expression, void of color, peoples homes looking the same as they dress, beige everywhere as if there are NO other colors in the world; everyone in black as if they are going to a funeral, it's BORING, DULL, LIFELESS. Bring on the Boho, bring on the color, patterns and charm, bring on vivaciousness. Women use to dress as beautiful flowers now most of them just look like they rolled out of bed OR they are wearing a corporate uniform. I love your style Lisa, keep it up, you are an inspiration. The wealthiest women wear colorful trendy clothes, they don't dress to please others or their boss, they dress to please themselves cause they are BOSS, they are their own woman! You can dress your best when nobody RULES over you. Luv ya, Lisa!

I don’t have many people over because I’m private but I have those expensive things because they make me happy. I don’t tell people how much they cost. Or, my expensive perfume I spray and no one knows I paid a lot for it. When I dress like a bum at home in my ridiculously expensive sweats. No one sees me. No one knows how much they cost. Whether at home cleaning or putting items on Poshmark, or going into the office to work. I love making money. My friends have different opinions about it, but that speaks to their experiences. Great Video - I honestly think there are people who lack self identity and perhaps have low self-esteem which makes them cling onto any and every trend or image they feel adds to their self-worth and value. "If I appear rich, maybe people will value me." Personally, I love colour! Red, Yellow, Orange, Metallics - I love it all and it looks fantastic against my skin tone. As much as I live for a black monochrome outfit, I am not doing myself any justice wearing muted colours around the clock. The concept of quiet luxury is ridiculous in itself because those who know the brand will recognise it without logos or branded prints, and I say this as someone who went to private school and rubbed shoulders with people from wealthy backgrounds. They also wear "loud" luxury clothes or none at all. Barbour and Ralph Lauren is as luxury as it gets for some. Members of the royal family have been known to wear branded clothing and accessories - The Lady Dior bag was named after Princess Diana and has a noisy keychain attached to it - hardly quiet.

You said that no matter what someone tells you looks great on you and that you “should” wear, always wear what makes you feel the most like “you”. Wear what makes you feel like the best version of yourself. That comment stuck with me and has given me the confidence to stay true to myself and what I like. This video was kind of like that. We can play with fashion and have fun, but it has to make us feel good or it’s not worth it. We can follow trends but shouldn’t feel less than if those trends are just not for us. Thanks so much for putting into words and having a conversation about what so many of us are thinking! Love this channel!

The mindset changed so much due to social media and celebrity in my opinion…imitating the style of the latest Tik Tok trend which at the moment is “quiet luxury “ tomorrow it could be something totally different! Most wealthy have clothes personally tailored not purchasing on line or shopping in department stores because as you stated the quality of fabric and the fit are of the upmost importance! I think as individuals especially of our generation we are going to dress exactly as you stated with what makes us feel good whether it’s trendy neutral or a mix of both and I think that as long as your clothes are clean pressed and you feel confident and comfortable wearing them then your going to feel luxurious no matter what label is in your collar😘

Hi Lisa! Love love love.. your videos. Everyday I look forward to your videos, it’s not a secret you are my number 1. My #2 is Monroe Steele. My mom says she misses working because she got to dress up. Now that she is in Dialysis she dresses up and puts on different perfumes, and she says I’m going to work.😊that keeps her motivated and she makes friends. All woman need to feel the fashion vibe and be able to talk about it. Her and I talk about fashion a lot over the phone; she is in WI and I’m in PR🤭. Me I’m 56 have multiple sclerosis and arthritis so I dress up to go to gym and to my appointments and to church. I’m thinking about dressing up to be at home. When I go to the stores many people ask for my opinion on makeup, skin care, fashion style, religion and health. Oh I watch Kaye she dupes everyone’s style and I wish she would do it more often. But your idea of having all of us talk about Fashion is a terrific idea, at least once or twice a month.

Thank you for sharing, I truly appreciate your discussion videos and sharing with us your authentic self! Each season of our lives is a learning curve and comes with new discoveries. I am learning to be my authentic self and it’s being noticed by those around me. There will always be fad terms like “quiet luxury.” However, no matter what is “in” we should be raising each other up, no mater what style choices one makes. Like the saying goes “In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”

I have been thrifting since I was a child and wearing handmade clothing. The best advice my Grams ever gave me was 1. Everything you make should be so well done, people ask where you bought it from. 2. Don't thrift because it's inexpensive, but rather find the highest quality pieces so that, again, people ask where you purchased it. ☺️❤️

You have an amazing way of expressing yourself! You seem to be totally talking off the cuff with no notes in front of you but very articulate in what you are trying to get across to your audience. How do you do that? It's awesome! Appreciate your honestly and openness. I haven't heard of Quiet Luxury either. Makes me curious to check those videos out.

Live and let live, to each his own, etc. Fashion delights with possibilities and choices. Different fabrics, price points and styles offer an abundance of whatever it is that floats your boat. It’s just so much fun to let fashion help you be you. And maybe a different you sometimes!😘

I don’t know if you will see this since this is an older video. I recently found from Ms. Gold Girl, Marnie Goldberg. Anyway, I loved your point here. I think fashion is a personal thing and everyone has an authentic style they feel most comfortable in. I love how you add the unexpected to traditional pieces. And you have some great tips for adding some trends that won’t break the bank and can work will with higher end staples. Bottom line: I think the important thing is that people need to feel good in their clothes. I love how you talk about this on your channel. People can carry off any style if they feel good in it! Keep being you!

You are the sort of person all of us want to have as a friend …wish we had as a friend. Thank you so much for being brave enough to be yourself in both your style and your personality. You can't judge a book by it's cover. You never know about someones intentions. I wear what makes me feel comfortable. I may carry Lv bags with my overalls or wear $$$ boots with my holey jeans. I just have to feel comfortable and like myself so I have a freedom to give my whole self to others, family, friends, strangers, etc. I have worked hard to be just me even though when people say I have style - at the same time they are rollin' their eyes. To me quiet fashion is a trend although it may be the longest running one everrrr!!! I love you Lisa because you are fierce and unafraid. I hope I am around when you are in your 70's girl!

I buy a lot my looks at Walmart or WHERE EVER and i look and feel pretty good in it too. 😂😂😂 And I love a bargin. I like looking at beauty and color, a woman all dolled up is enjoyable to look at and not boring at all. Sometimes we like to blend but not often. Like you said Lisa its being true to yourself and don't judge. It was good to see Brook's cameo. She's all grown up. Such a doll.

Great video I really enjoyed it. Wasn’t quite sure where you were going with the quite luxury thing. But, I totally understand everything and agree with what you were saying. I think I am more of a quiet luxury type person. Not that if someone is wearing something that is designer and it’s got a big label on it… I looked down on them, or judge them in a certain way I accept them for what they’re wearing because that’s just their personality. It’s just not mine. Like you said we all have our own style. I have no problem carrying a Louis Vuitton, Gucci bag and I got on a Walmart shirt. I just like what I like. I don’t like wearing logos if it’s not my initials. Especially, some thing that’s going to be really prominent. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and I love your style and the fact that you wear some things that I wouldn’t wear but I still like them on you.❤❤

I sometimes think the logos make the "look" of the bag, shoes, etc. So the logo becomes a part of the design itself. I have Vuitton, Burberry, and Valentino, some quiet, some not, but never tacky in head to toe logos. My rule: ONE logo showing, not forty 😂🤣

This was endlessly encouraging! When I heard people talking about quiet luxury I thought, the people talking about quiet luxury have the same objective as those who love flaunting labels. It's just a recycled approach. I definitely have more of a Fran Drescher tacky style sometimes and I just feel my best that way! I've tried to dress Classic and it just looks frumpy on me. It doesn't flatter me or suit my personality. Thanks for the reminder of not to feel less-then. I went to fashion school and so sometimes I think what I like feels silly but it's just fun for me and I only live this life once so I want to enjoy what I'm wearing xo 💖

YES! I love this! When I think of quiet luxury I think of Martha Stewart, Cape Cod, Connecticut. It's never been my style, but I love that everyone has their own thing. I LOVE your style, but some of it isn't me (in part because I'm a pale redhead and I just don't feel like myself in colorful things) but I wouldn't have it any other way. I had to think this through and it took me a while (I’m also the equestrian you mentioned in your vlog). Before I comment, I just wanted to say that I love your fashion style and enjoy your video posts! I don’t think ‘quiet luxury’ is new or a trend, people just like to label things. As I mentioned before, I am an equestrian and the people I hang around with people have a lot of money. Most dress in the ‘quiet luxury’ style including myself. Is this new? No. I’ve known many of these people and been riding with some of these people for 10+ years. They dressed in ‘quiet luxury’ 10+ years ago.
Do I have a closet full of designer hand bags? No. Do I want a closet full of designer hand bags? No, but I have six custom handmade saddles that range from $6500 all the way up to $20k. No one would know this unless they knew something about saddles. My horse was imported from Germany, people don’t know this and I rarely mention it. Did I pay more for him than most people pay for their cars? Yes. Did I put him on a plane and fly him horse first class to the US, yes. Do I tell people this? No. I guess you can consider that ‘quiet luxury.’ For those Negative Nelly’s out there, I am only mentioning this because of the subject matter of this blog.
I think people who wear a lot of flashy labels want to portray an image and tell the world either they have money or want to look like they have money. That is totally fine and if that makes them happy, I’m all for it. I don’t want to tell people anything. I am just as happy wearing my $39.95 dress from Walmart as I am wearing my $1000 t - shirt I got from Tom Ford (with no logo) about a week and a half ago.
Another thing about flashy labels is that there are so many good fakes out there that I assume most people have fake designer so it has become meaningless to me.

Personally I do not like logos...I feel like you are a walking advertisement without getting paid. Maybe because when I worked as a model I got paid for wearing logos in photos. Nowadays in my neighborhood and also traveling (I just came back from Tahiti) I notice how people with money don't really wear logos and have this simple sophisticated style which I like...for nails, for hair, for clothes, for makeup. To me the more simple the more beautiful.

    Character is quiet luxury.
I love finding stuff that perhaps no one would know is maybe expensive or exclusive in a way or even not of the norm for where you live. I live in a second ring suburb of Minneapolis that's kinda fancy. Not entirely fancy, but areas can be fancy. A lot of the women love Louis Vuitton, which I do as well, but you don't see a lot of other designer things. I was carrying my Givenchy Antigona bag a few years ago (into a TJ Maxx! - because I love shopping) and the sweet girl at the counter said, "I don't know what your bag is, but I can tell it's important." That's what I want. a iykyk kind of a thing.
