There is to much focus on the older generations in looking younger. How about looking polished, fresh, and being our best. I don’t care to look younger. I care to look my best
I totally agree!!! I personally do not like wearing any form of sneakers other than for going to the play field or gym! Neither do I like wearing a shirt tucked in in the front only! Let the teens do that!
I wish I had seen this video earlier , I love the white shorts you recommended but they are sold out and this year all the shirts I try on have pleats creating a bubble in the front 🙄 thanks for this information ❤️
I really enjoyed your tips to avoid “frumptown!” Unfortunately, I am afraid I have been living there. At 73, and after three hip surgeries and both knees replaced, I find I just cannot wear the “great” shoes anymore - especially heels. I totally agree the shoes can make a major improvement!!
Christy Brian Not a fan of mocking others and calling names - I think Erin is spot on with style, but feeling superior because you are stylishly dressed is obnoxious IMO!
Yes Erin, thank you for the detailed description and the "why" of what you pick. Even if we don't dress exactly like you recommend it still helps me choose styles that will flatter my shape.
Thank you for doing the “better.” I cannot just dump my closet and start over, so working with what I have and then adding the best pieces one by one is practical.
I remember being 46. Legs were still good, everything was pretty much still in place. Now at 64 not so much. Some of your advice is very good but some just can not apply as my body does not cooperate. Thanks, I enjoy the videos, gives me ideas.
Besides clean hair, teeth and nails, a smile, joy and kindness are what make us most attractive at any age. You can dress immaculately, but without love, joy and kindness, it will always lack something. Give thanks to God for each day, and know that when you are 74, you will think "wish I was 64 again!" It will seem young to you then 😉💕 God bless
Yes, agreed, these were fantastic overall. However, regarding the shoes- some of us can’t wear heels (even your “comfortable” wedges) if we’re going to be on our feet for any length of time. And the backless loafers are a no-go for me as well as every one I’ve tried pinches my toes, leaves blisters and slips off. I’d really like to see some TRULY comfortable FLAT sandals in the looks. I know they’re out there!
One word - Birkenstocks. Most comfortable sandal ever, virtually indestructible, doesn't loose shape, and they are a huge trend right now, and will probably always be. Also, city sneakers, Converse, cross strap sandals (look for fat straps), greek sandals, slip-ons. Common, Ladies, there are so many trendy and comfortable choices nowadays.
You will be sorry you stuck to those heels when you get older. I stopped wearing them early, thank heavens, and wore sandals and flats. I saw your feet and it looks like you already have damage.
I was laughing out loud for the term crotch framing😂. The bad looks all added 20 years to your age. I could not agree more that we women want to look current, sexy and cool. Thank you for showing how to achieve it ❤️
@@MC-gq5ms Reminded me of an old joke (and I mean old!). Picture a bikini and hear a woman seeing it and exclaiming, "Lordy, what they don't show, they point to."
I was just about to say the same thing. I love her enthusiasm and can even see how the ideas can even help a larger sized woman. This is not a criticism, just a wish. Would love to see what she can suggest for someone with bigger boobs or wider waist. Loved the ideas but will NEVER tuck in my shirt!
I am a 13/14.... this video taught me what not to do.... yes I can imagine her a little bit hippy like me in the same clothes she is wearing and I do look better!!!!!! ... you don’t need a plus size model... just get the same/similar clothes in your size...and you’ll see. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Extra weight makes me dislike just about anything I’m wearing!!! It’s hard to keep the weight off ( need to lose some now) but I’m much happier w less on me and I feel so much better. There’s a spring in my step! Many more choices in my closet when my weight is down. It’s worth it to me to keep working on my eating habits to keep weight off. Plus nothing ages a woman more than extra weight. Some things are unchangeable. But there are a few things we can fix: posture, smile, weight, attitudes etc. Keep trying ladies, on the weight thing. You can do it!
Erin you have inspired me to put on a pair of 3 & 4” shorts that I haven’t worn in 18 years! Being vertically challenged at 5’1-1/2” , I’ve always been so self conscious about my legs that I just avoided wearing them. It’s amazing how much a shorter inseam lengthens your legs. It’s also motivated me to get back in shape and tone up. A friend of mine saw me in a pair of shorts the other day and complimented me on my legs. I’m 58 years old and for the first time in a long time I feel liberated. Thank you for all of your styling tips and encouraging us to fight the frump and be our best selves. 😘🤗
Yes! There's been numerous occasions when I was either having a really painful heavy period or a nasty cold or even migraines and had to go to a special occasion and be dressed up and made up. I got ready in pain and feeling crappy but once I was all done I suddenly felt sooooo good and the pain and misery almost entirely vanished. So strange and effective.
Really good.. bad, better, best... Been in frump town so long... only aware after I see you model... hard to see because the frumpy styles are comfortable...
I loved this. I want to look cute while doing household stuff. Clothes that I don’t mind getting dirty. Activities like cleaning, mowing, general house work. I look dumpy all day because by the time I get done with my cleaning tasks it feels like ‘why bother’. This has gotten worse since the pandemic.
You're right!. In addition, the off one shoulder look might be very fashionable these days, BUT in a few more years it'll look outdated because it's a fad.
I do have to agree with this. BUT if you pull it down further and wear it like 2 hours in advance maybe it would stretch out some? lol. IDK. I try to stay away from crew necks or shallow scoops anyway - but that's a chokey feeling thing for me lol
Susan Sarandon overdid the off the shoulder look for decades. It got to be ridiculous. I avoid it like the plague. It’s reminiscent of sheep dressing like lamb desperately trying to be sexy.
Would love to see some options for people who need to wear bras with straps. Once you get to layering you have other issues to contend with ie: length of layers etc etc
Please do more of these! I am 73 and you have helped me so much with my wardrobe. I have learned quality is more important than quantity! I thought the last one was the worst and also the best! I will now have to go back in my closet and purge again but I will keep watching you for inspiration! Thank you!
It is clear that you have put so much work into this video! (well, it's clear that you put so much work into all of them). It's wonderful that you listen to your followers and do everything possible to help as much as you can. Thank you! xx
You made me giggle when you said, "Frump Town." I'm really loving this series, Erin. Please do more!! I'm finding it very inspiring. It's giving me ideas as to how I can tweak my outfits in order to make myself look more modern. I'm now looking at my wardrobe pieces in a whole different way! Thank you so much! ♥
Being thin is a choice. You choose to not indulge in over eating. As we age it is not easy to stay thin, but unless we have a medical condition , it is possible with making a conscious decision to eat less. I had a weight problem for most of my life until I decided that being thin is more important to me than indulging myself with food. It is by no means easy.
Sadly the last time I was a 26 or 27 was in my teens. Plus pear shaped ladies like me can’t pull off the front tuck as well either, but it looks great on her.
Every store buyer for mass marketed women's clothing should be made to watch this. You make me laugh and smile. The last outfit was the worst "bad", and the coolest "best". Thanks Erin.
Please do more videos like this! This was very helpful! I really giggled at your dancing and facial expressions with the "bad"outfits! I have similar shoes like the bad ones lol very comfy..but I am only going to use them for boating..and start parting my hair in the middle..lol I have long spiral curls! I loved loved the last look..i have more kimonos than I should..but I learned today that I am wearing them in a stylish way! Thank again!
I feel like you just sat me down and hosted my intervention. I didn’t realize what I was doing to myself with the crotch framing tunic, and I apologize to my family and friends for making them endure that frumpy look! I am now off to my closet to make amends : )
Hi Erin, I admire your Boldness, girl! I'm in my 50's, and I try to be conscious of how I dress. It is very challenging to find quality, flattering clothes that are not too revealing.
This video is great! Love the "Bad, Better, Best" breakdown. The difference between "BAD" and "BEST" is night and day. Most of these outfits reuse pieces (i.e. those Bueno sandals seem to get a lot of wardrobe mileage). As a single 35 years old I feel I am in a very strange in between b/c I'm not a 20-something college grad but I'm not a Mom. Love your style tips. Keep them coming!
Hey Leslie - I know that stage of life! There doesn't seem to be a market for that age range, does there... Be true to you! You'll know what makes you feel pretty (and no matter what Kim K says, it's not a bandeau with a pair of hot pants!) and that's what it's about. You got this, girl! :) Shannon A.
I really enjoyed this.I see what looks like some Chicos items the leopard print tank and ruana coverup. I used to love Chicos when I was a size 16 petite because they specialize in clothes that are looser around the hips and mid section where most women over 40, put on weight while many standard brands like Free People etc assume tiny hips and legs. I am a size 10 petite now so buy clothes elsewhere. AS I was losing the weight 5 yrs ago I did a crash course on the internet of opinions on dressing. Heres what I learned that worked for me: 1. MAJOR RULE dress for the shape you are NOW. 2. Define your best colors. Here are several systems to do that: a. SEason, not just Spring, Summer , etc but if you,are Spring are you,Warm Spring, then you wear warmer colors with a warm undertone , Cool Spring then cool undertone. Etc for all the seasons then cool, warm, and olive .THere are instructions to determine all.this free mostly on Pinterest, then there is the Kibbe system used originally to dress the movie stars in clothes that best suited THEIR shapes, well we have the same shapes. YOu can find discussions of which current actresses have these shapes and see photos of them dressed casually bec who goes around in Oscar gowns. This helps you pick styles that suit your height, weight, AND shape, use for inspiration. 3. Another coloring system uses your skin, eye, and hair color called your body colors and takes recommendations for those to a core neutral base wardrobe keeping the warm vs cool in mind also then accent colors 4. DRess for your lifestyle how you live your life casual, work, travel, lots of parties, etc. Dont buy what you wont wear no matter how much you like it. 5. Your base wardrobe in your basic colors is what you can wear for years spend your money for quality there first. THen add in the more colorful pieces , most women have too few quality basics in their best basic colors and far too many of the bright things that catch our eye when shopping. DOnt buy fast fashion, it goes out of style first. CLassics dont. THe Kibbe system can show you which shape classics are best for your body.Dont buy for momentary fashion the basic core of your wardrobe dont go extreme with those, your less expensive purchases can be more of the moment because they are fun. So for me I am 73 look early 60s have a size 10 petite X shape 38 30 39 5'4", I am a Kibbbe Romantic style. I am warm Spring with golden blonde long hair, tourquoise eyes, and warm light skin. I dress for MY life. WHat looks best on ME are long flowy skirts, form fitting not too low. tops with sleeves tucked into, the waist belted. Belts are my best friend. I also wear camisoles cut low, but not showing cleavage BUT ALWAYS covered by an open classic shirt tied at the waist rolled up sleeves to just. below the elbow or,top the cami with jackets when it's cool. I wear youthful leather, suede, or other high quality material short fitted never boxy, waisted jacket styles, this look is perfect for ME. I look youthful, feel great, this style shows off my Romantic Kibbe style body.I look womanly but in a covered up way. Almost no skin showing. THe emphasis is on my waist and face , the chest is covered modestly but very THERE, so are the hips but in a softly sexy way. My second go to style is Western with the flowy skirts or denim boots Western or regular and booties. Same tops I wear with the other looks, I wear my Stetson. I get alot of compliments from locals, they love the look, women and men. This is my go to Fall and Winter look, when weather is cooler here in the mountains. For others this is a costume look and I'd never wear it in New England or Florida where family live, but HERE it is perfect because being Texan, it feels like my skin and I looks so ME also, people with coffee fincas still ride their fabulous past fine high stepping horses into the Spanish colonial town where I live on Sundays. It's that kind of place. Abroad in tropical Latin Americe in the coffee growing mountains, lots of horses here in the country. I wear Western jackets in suede or leather not usually denim. I dont look out of place at all here. I have a few tradtional classic things to wear to New England and a few Florida clothes, those do look odd here but I wear them tomthenPacific beach here where its fine and thats it. I finally have my retirement life sorted out, with the best wardrobe for me. YOu can do the research free on Pinterest and if you are shut in now it's the perfect time to do it. Having been a college prof I took notes in a spiral notebook all along my research journey and built boards on these subjects you can see. Lots of my research on Pinterest under my name Sybil Francis. It was the most FUN research of my life and has really borne fruit in how I look and FEEL. Have fun, enjoy it, this wasnt available 20 yrs ago.
This series is so helpful because I need the visual of bad, better, best. I actually have one of those tops, ( the “crotch” one, lol), and I never realized before how this can appear- yikes! I would welcome a series on wedding/ special event dressing, particularly mother of the bride/groom dressing. I’m not yet at that stage but I could be in the not too distant future. So many of the “mom” dresses are soooo frumpy, and I certainly don’t want to look like that when the time comes! (Of course, I don’t want to look like I’m competing with the bride! I’ve seen that, believe it or not, and that looks bad and sad!)
Chandra Ingram It seems a lot of influencers are suggesting it, so it isn’t very original and hopefully will be a short-lived trend. It just absolutely does not work for my short, squatty body!
OH GOSH YES!! I’m a high school English teacher. Last year, a couple of my girls commented on how cool it was I had the “French tuck” or whatever it’s called. I had NO clue what it was. I had simply been lifting, bending, stretching, reaching, and my blouse had pulled a bit out of my jeans. It was the first time I heard of it and then I couldn’t help seeing it and began to see other women doing this on purpose! Even at our church!! It’s as annoying as the dumb shirts with the holes in the shoulder! The first time I saw that, I thought that oh that is so going to be a stupid trend!! Never did it and certainly didn’t do this dumb tuck on purpose. Much of what is done and shown here is to what my mother would call “affected”. She looks fabulous - if you’re going to be on The Tonight Show, but I see you at the store or church? Don’t. Just don’t.
I don't like it either, but overall I felt her tips were on point. I would simply style it with a shorter, more fitted A-line tunic style to cover my tummy as that is a problem area for me. I find A-line cut of shirt or blouse flows away from my pear shape body type (with tummy) and is more flattering than a box shape. I hate stuff hugging my hips and stomach, but don't want to wear a tent either!
Puhleeze!!! When I was 47 yo I was 5'6" and 117 lbs with two adult children!! I didn't need fashion info back then. Now I am going to be 82 and am 5'4.5" and 185 lbs. NOW is when info is needed ... I'm not used to being this way. ok ... I'm all ears!!
I hear your pain! I too, was 115 or so with a 23” waist till menopause. 10 years after the big M hit, I’m 135 with a 32” waist. I almost can’t believe on the same person and it’s hard to wear smart looking clothes on an aging lumpy body.
I’m in the same boat. But I have been reading the book by Dr Anthony Cleanse to Heal. It has mostly to do with extra estrogen and liver toxicity. You can also follow him @Medicalmedium instagram.com/medicalmedium?igshid=1kndqdetkkl29
Wear whatever the hell you want lady. You are probly gorgeous cuz you think about being frumpy looking. Wear classics. Caroline Herrera type!! Rock your awesome age!! And never feel bad about wearing pjs or nightgowns all day. I have a chronic illness and will wear whatever I want versus worrying about frump. 🤗
You can still look good - Check out some videos for older women because this woman is definitely trying to look very young for her age - You are ten years older than me and there are many clothes on the market that can make us look stylish - Stick with classic lines and solid colors and avoid oversized styles - The monochromatic look (all one color or shades of one color) will make you look taller and leaner - Black pants and a black top with a colored jacket looks good but black pants, a white top, and a colored jacket will cut us in half and make us look wider - Think vertical and avoid anything that draws a horizontal line across your body - Have fun and enjoy who you are and the fact that you are 85 and still want to look good.
Well, the whole outfit in number 3 is in my closet. I’m getting rid of it tomorrow! I am 73, so way over 40. I’ve decided that I’m not wearing shorts at all from now on. I am thin and fashion conscious so I just have to modify some of the things you wear for my age. I loved this video. I would like to see more like this.
Veggie V But things happen when you get older. I like shorts , but at 65 I just noticed ( it did seem to happen fast) that my skin around my knees looks saggy and crepey plus I have bad veins in my legs. I am making a lot of changes as I age. Sometimes I just wear shorts anyway bc it’s so hot. Just the other day my grown son asked if my varicose veins hurt. They look awful but I just try to make the rest of me look its best. Everyone ages. I just do the best I can w what I’ve got- defects and all. My daughter told me not to worry about my legs and wear knee length dresses. She says I look great. I can’t go get a bunch of stuff fixed.
@@MC-gq5ms You should get those veins checked out by a doc. Its possible you have venous insufficiency and fixing them would be covered by insurance. Its also a health issue
Thanks for all the work you do; your channel has been so helpful. I now shop with a "new eye" for the right details and have begun to enjoy clothes shopping again. I would like some tips on how to dress for rainy weather. How to look fashionable, not frumpy, and also not ruin your good clothes/shoes.
OMG...I LOVED his video. One of your best! Keep me out of "frump town" and the "crotch framing tunic." It's terrible they market these clothes to us and it's AWFUL! What next? Kaftans for your night out on the town? lol. Keep these coming. They are so helpful!
Yes! One of your best videos for me. Please do more. Thanks , Erin! I’m 65 and need all the help I can get. I feel better when I look better. You helped me look much better! The shoes I have on now are yuck. Need to replace, but they have to be flat and comfortable. Please show stylish flat cute shoes.
Yes most of this is helpful. Whether or not you show your shoulders does not make you frumpy or not. I don't like my shoulders. And the design on the back of the shirt....people will ask me why I put my shirt on backwards. I will definitely use some of these tips
Cropped pants cut the legs off. So do those pants that stop at the ankle. I know everyone loves to show their shoes, but I feel so much slimmer when I have straight or flare leg pants that are long.
You have helped me so much with my clothes style. I like the better and best options just because sometimes you don't have time to change clothes. Great video. I am also wondering if you could do an eyeglasses video. I just never seem to like my glasses once I leave the store. What eye glass frames and colors look more youthful. Thanks for all you do.
This was a great video! I think the “better” was helpful since it really does compare apples to apples. It was then easier to “see” how to get to best. I struggle with thinking clothes look to young for me. Body type= peanut shape, busty, small waist, big booty and big low abdomen. This video bridged the gap from just buy younger looking clothes.
Thank you for all of the helpful information you provide. Even though some of us may be over 40, it does not mean that we do not want to look classy, sexy, youthful, and vibrant. Many of us are embracing our 40's and beginning a new phase of our lives with a stronger self-confidence and a better knowledge of ourselves. Also, dressing less "frumpy" and feeling good about how you look does boost your self- esteem. Please continue to post these helpful videos and especially the tips about elongating the petite body!
Yes! Chico's is guilty of selling all of the frumpiest styles. Ugh. Do better, Chico's! Anyway, I loved this video and will definitely apply the advice ❤
I love this advice! I'm 62 and have been avoiding the "frump" for years. Your help will make my decisions on outfits much easier. Please do more with good-better-best and more shoe options.Including price would be helpful also.
I jumped off a ladder and shattered my heel into 7 piece, now my foot is full of hardware. Had to give away 3 trash bags of beautiful shoes. 😪 I’d love to see a whole video on “comfort” shoes that might possibly be non frumpy. I don’t think it exists!
I can't wear heels like I used to and I have a narrow foot to complicate matters further. I discovered Rieker and Remonte shoes a few years ago. They are European. Very stylish and very comfortable. DSW sometimes has them and you can also buy them online. Not cheap - they're often $50-$100 depending on the style, but are excellent quality. Clark's are also very good quality and comfortable.
Comfort shoes have come a long way! Check out Clark's, Borns and go to GOOGLE type in comfort brands and more should pop up. I had planter fasciitis surgery on my left foot.
Roxanne Bernard I have found that a casual very dark grey pair of trainers with dark sole, can look quite modern and young with Denims slim leg or dark slim leg trousers. I'm sz 16 and 67 years old.
Please check out QVC and HSN. They carry Vionic, CLARK'S, Bjorn, Ryka, Earth, and so many other shoe designers that cater to style AND comfort. Plus you can pay stuff off with flex pay or easy pay. I have plantar fasciitis, a wide foot and I wear great stylish shoes with comfort galore! I also shop Diane Gilman for jeans Marla Wynne, Lori Goldstein, Issac Mizrahi, Denim & Company, Kim Gravell for fashions that cater to all sizes and shapes! They use plus size models as much as the petite and smaller models. Style comes in all sizes and shapes. Even if you don't buy their clothes, you can see how they style things for your size and age group.
I cannot tell you how valuable this information is! And to all the women commenting Erin needs to do a video for plus sized women, she did! I'm a 5'11'', 235 lb., size 18 woman. I can take this instruction video and go to the store and NOT buy frumpy clothes. Why can't you utilize this information and incorporate it into your own style?! Good grief ladies. Grow an imagination. Thank you Erin for the EXTREMELY valuable style advice! Hugs!
Hi Erin, I am struggling against the frump. Thank you for this. Please do a video on frumpy hairstyles in different lengths with a contrasting hairstyle in the same length.
The blouse you're wearing for the whole video is super-frumpy to me. Baggy and those stringy tassles. A "tent top" for sure. What did you find "good" about it? Maybe i'm missing something.
This was super helpful, thank you. So good to see the comparisons side by side. I can’t do a lot of the tucking etc. as I have a big tummy, but it has given me pointers to watch out for and try to be creative with. Motivation to go through my wardrobe once and for all too! Thank you for all the hard work and research you put into your videos. It’s so appreciated that you’re trying to help us. ❤️x
Such great advice! "When you look good, you feel good!" And when you feel good (confident, relaxed, etc), you look good. I think cultivating your own style is an ongoing process you should start as young as possible; a lot of people at any age become invisible because they are not dressed nor acting as individuals.
Yes! This was VERY helpful. I’m 65 and sometimes I get dressed and know something looks off. Can’t figure out quite what to do to fix the look. Your analysis explained a lot of why I don’t like some things I wear. Like someone else said we need cute flat shoes. I love heels, but my feet don’t like them at all. Thanks so much!!
This is so much better than just talking about style!. Showing them side by side with the tweaks done at each is way way more helpful. Please continue to do these videos!
I really love your channel, and I’m so happy that I discovered it! I’m a former fashion editor for a newspaper and found that women need and want beautiful and workable solutions to their problems. I would have women call me as they stood in their closet trying to figure out what to wear. Sometimes they just can’t see problems on their own. I believe that you just need to be honest with people and tell the truth, which you do in a way that’s encouraging and not offensive. I would suggest adding another category that I see ALL the time especially in spring-summer. Capris pants and t-shirt combinations with awful sandals. It’s become a uniform for women over a certain age. Again, thank you for your honesty on fashion and beauty, and life’s issues.
This video was awesome and I’d would love to see more like this!! Super helpful!! I’m in my 50’s and struggle with trying to dress age appropriately and still look stylish!! The first outfit was the REALLY bad and the last outfit transformation was my favorite!!! PLEASE keep these videos coming!!!
There is a trend on TIKTOK along the lines of "is it fashion or just skinny" . I tend to fall into this trap of admiring something that is actually "just skinny". Could you do something about making "skinny pieces" fashionable for everybody?
Can I just say you are a genius! Your ideas about taking shirts and turning them around you were right looks so much better. And at least it makes it more versatile to be able to use your shirts in several ways. You gave a lot of really great tips that I’m going to try to apply. But like the other people that commented I do feel I probably have been in frump town for quite a while. But your tips made it where at least you can make it look better. Great video!
@Busbee Style - I agree with you on some points regarding hair, with that said, parting the hair has to do with shape of the face. Parting my hair perfectly on the side makes me look sexy while down the middle is a big no no. Thanks for the video.
Depends on the shape of your face, side parting is more flattering for me now- I wore it parted long and in the middle in 70’s & early 80’s- hate that term “Mom/Bob”- that style is more flattering for many and classic, too...!
If you've done this already, I apologize. Could you please do a video addressing active wear/lounge wear that could be worn in public? I always have a hard time finding comfortable weekend clothing. Thank you. 😊
I, too, would appreciate an updated video on wearing athletic wear (not limited to leggings) while out and about. I think some such looks are cute and entirely appropriate... (not talking old, worn out, mis-matched, too revealing, etc.) but mostly I read from fashion guru’s... “just DON’T. Never!” So... EXACTLY, what is OK for street wear and in what context? Set me straight, Erin... even if painful! Lol!
I love these examples. I’ve recently lost weight and do not want to waste money on a new wardrobe without knowing what to look for. I’m 49 years old, 5’-2” and transitioning from a high level corporate job to more of a personal assistant/family manager position. I need combinations that work for weekend and office work. I want to look modern and be comfortable at the same time. I’m so glad I found your videos. You’ve put some things into words that I’ve suspected were problems all along, but I didn’t know how to correct the look. This will help me with my closet overhaul. Thank you Erin.
I'm so glad you found this helpful, Dawn! Try pairing your more corporate tops (blazers or blouses) with a pair of jeans for a new elevated, but casual look! Good luck! xo
So helpful! After watching these videos I run to my closet to remove any offenders! My local Goodwill thanks you! Yes more please. I am 64 and my Grandchildren love the way I dress. Age appropriate but cool 😎 according to them. Now I just need somewhere to go! Bye bye covid!
I have to tell you that you are doing an AMAZING job with your channel. I'm a fairly new subsriber but you have quickly become my favorite style "guru". I find you to be relevant, engaging and knowledgable. On behalf of the women who look in the mirror every morning and think "who is THAT?", I want you to know that we appreciate everything you do 😁
I loved this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your sense of humor is hysterical! Turning the shirt around, what a great idea!!!!!! I would love to see this same concept on someone older, shorter hair, and heavier. Thanks for all you do Erin!!!!
I'm a teacher, too, and I would LOVE a video like that! There is no way I could wear heels (or other uncomfy shoes) while teaching! People picture teachers sitting at their desks, but 95% of my day is spent walking. Seriously! Lol
I've searched for decades. When something is fashionable and comfortable for a year or two, like round toed Mary Janes or slip ons, it then goes out of fashion and we are confronted with pointy toed high heels. The men who design shoes do NOT wear them, believe me! I quite liked those sandals she threw away. The replacement chunky wedges did not hold the foot in place and would be useless walking along a stony beach or down the wooded path behind your country estate.
I'm 62, youthful, vibrant and sexy. Huge difference between chronological age and biological age. I can out exercise my 39 year old step daughter...by far. Your health is your wealth on all levels.
The poncho was the worst. The last one was the best. I like the “better” in case I don’t have pieces to make “best”. I’ve learned so much from you!! Thank you ❤️ Just using a hair tie to gather the front of a t-shirt was a revelation.
That Kimono could look stunning on the right person and paired with the right clothes and accessories - needs to be worn by a tall person who does not need to look like a twenty-year old.
This is great for someone who is thin, but a lot of us have gained weight and wear the larger tops to cover a 7-month pregnant-looking belly. It would be so helpful to get tips on how to deal with a large, out of proportion middle.
This was SO much fun Erin! I’m loving these videos - very cool adding the “better” version as well even though I would always opt for the “best”😉. I think there was just no saving the bedazzled t with those shorts🙈. Have a beautiful weekend 💕 Tammy Roy 🇨🇦
Thank you so much for the illustrations- helping us see better is really helpful - images are needed so I can really see it. I definitely need the images to grasp your helpful points; I am probably much more frumpier than I thought I was!!
Tucking into my pants and showing my belly is not an option for me. And I don't understand what is so bad about the sandals. Will you please explain. I think they and the loud too you hate could look good on the right person who could carry that high energy
Debbie ...-and welcome yourself to old-lady-land. The compliments you’re receiving are either from 1. Other old ladies 2. Younger people trying to be nice 3. Those with no sense of what really flatters and styles well on someone. No, really. I’m not trying to be mean, but those big bold tees just scream that you’ve crossed over into old-lady territory. I am truly sorry, if this offends but thought you might want to know what wearing one of those big bold tees ACTUALLY signals to those with ANY sense of style, whatsoever. If you don’t care about that and are happy dressing in those and are content with those aforementioned “compliments” then by all means, do what makes YOU happy.
My previous comment got sent by accident before finished. But yes, do whatever makes YOU happy because that’s REALLY what it SHOULD be about. I just gave you the insight of what “others” think when you wear those types of tees because Unfortunately, however, the reality is, most people don’t have the courage to just dress for themselves and what makes they, themselves, happy. Mostly all women dress for others. I figured you must be among those women in the latter category because you clicked on this video so I thought it helpful to offer you perspective. Again, my intent in no way is/was to offend. Truly sincere apologies, if I did so.🙏
I am bingeing your videos and cracking up at your silly dances and funny faces! Omg, you’re so personal and fun. Thanks for all you do for us ladies! I definitely don’t want to be a frumpy old lady. 👵🏻
Sorry but that 'best' outfit at the end would make most women look and feel like mutton dressed as lamb. Really NOT a good look for most women outside of the bedroom.
I just thought it looked bad...and still frumpy and a bit hippy dippy or ? to wear that leopard print sheer bathrobe over jeans...it was a beach coverup and should stay at the beach. Otherwise I agree that the narrow lines of tucking in shirts looks better than the tent shapes regardless of body size. I'm 70, and don't want to look frumpy, I think the prints are bad, some prints are great, but cow, leopard, giant florals with gold leaf beads usually look like Florida...so not good for a Yankee. In fact I think a northern climate suggests more of an Audrey Hepburn simple lines and neutral colors, brightened with a hat, belt, bag, hair, scarf etc. Might be a good direction for older women?
The robe seems out of place for going out in public, I agree. I've been watching Kara Para Ask on Netflix (such good fashion!), and now here I am on YT looking at fashion tips 😂
I think it’s easy to apply the recommendations by those who are thin like you. It would be nice to see how a plus size woman could make some changes.
Agree.
For sure
Exactly. I'm not one that can tuck in my shirts without having that belly pooch take center stage.
Yes, not helpful to have a young woman in her 40s and still thin telling us what “makes it better”. Doesn’t work if you aren’t 40something and thin.
I agree. especially when we have a mans beer belly, I could not tuck a tee shirt in the front and leave it out on the sides and back. Yikes!
There is to much focus on the older generations in looking younger. How about looking polished, fresh, and being our best. I don’t care to look younger. I care to look my best
I love your work!
Thank you!
I think as we get older we have found our style and know what suits us. Sadly it's not always easy to find what we want!
I love the analogy “FRUMPTOWN” a style all of it’s own. I think we get there by accident & a friend like you takes us to the better destination 👏👏👏😉😉😉
Christy Brian Not a fan of mocking others and calling names - I think Erin is spot on with style, but feeling superior because you are stylishly dressed is obnoxious IMO!
We can sing it as Frumpytown instead of Funkytown
Yes Erin, thank you for the detailed description and the "why" of what you pick. Even if we don't dress exactly like you recommend it still helps me choose styles that will flatter my shape.
Thank you for doing the “better.” I cannot just dump my closet and start over, so working with what I have and then adding the best pieces one by one is practical.
I remember being 46. Legs were still good, everything was pretty much still in place. Now at 64 not so much. Some of your advice is very good but some just can not
apply as my body does not cooperate. Thanks, I enjoy the videos, gives me ideas.
Shoes is a big change between age 40’s and 60’s.
Agree! I have arthritis and can't wear anything over 2" high. Platform sandals?
Thank you!! 100% agree
Agreed!
Thank you for showing how to achieve it ❤️
Thank you, Eija! These outfits really do affect how you see someone! xo
On the crotch framing tunic, it seems to me the tucked -in -the pockets option was also crotch framing ie the point stopped at the crotch.
@@MC-gq5ms Reminded me of an old joke (and I mean old!). Picture a bikini and hear a woman seeing it and exclaiming, "Lordy, what they don't show, they point to."
Can you use a model who wears a size 14/16? Most women don’t have your figure!
She does work very hard at it. Inspirational.
We need to do a channel for curvy women
That's amazing! I'm so glad that you took the time to write and tell me! I love that! xo
The “way that you look affects the way you feel” so VERY TRUE. Always, but especially for me in this pandemic. Great videos. I enjoy your content.🌹
So true, Martha! Thank you! xo
Yes, it’s important to be looking cute at home too!
need some anti-frump advice for a short women with lumps & rolls.......
This!!!
wylie jones I here you...don’t worry this top does here no favours, I think how you are is more important than how you look.
Really good.. bad, better, best... Been in frump town so long... only aware after I see you model... hard to see because the frumpy styles are comfortable...
Me too - I’m new to this channel and I like what she says and how she says it - keeping it real
Ditto
I loved this. I want to look cute while doing household stuff. Clothes that I don’t mind getting dirty. Activities like cleaning, mowing, general house work. I look dumpy all day because by the time I get done with my cleaning tasks it feels like ‘why bother’. This has gotten worse since the pandemic.
I can relate to your comment. I do the same thing.
tee pulled off one shoulder looks awful, looks like the neck is being strangled on the other side.
Lynn Clifton haha same, you’ll never catch me in a turtle neck
No, it looked great on her!
Thank you! xx
I appreciate that, Heather! Thank you! xo
I love the “we’re hitchhiking out of frump town!” 😂😂😂
Ha! Thank you, Lesley! xo
That was my favorite part too! I was cracking up!
Ummmmm yeah most of us are not as skinny as you. Let’s just be honest. Everything looks good on you. 😂❤️
Truth!
“Hitchhiking out of frump town” ...I died!!! Loved the video, yes do more!
Exactly what I was thinking.
More to come, Virginia! I'm so glad that you liked this one! xo
Love the free people top in the video how do I order it, it isn’t shown on web site
I feel like you just sat me down and hosted my intervention. I didn’t realize what I was doing to myself with the crotch framing tunic, and I apologize to my family and friends for making them endure that frumpy look! I am now off to my closet to make amends : )
You are too funny, Kim! Glad this was helpful! xo
lol
😂
Right! I found her yesterday, took notes and have been in my closet since 4 am this morning purging things that make me look frumpy. I have so many!!!
@@TheHelpfulSchizophrenic me too, and it's weird how you know you dont look quite right but just dont know how to fix it...until now. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it, Leslie! xo
Last look was definitely the worst. This is a great series and I loved the good, better, best concept. Thanks Erin!
You're so welcome, Margaret! xo
Heres what I learned that worked for me:
3. Another coloring system uses your skin, eye, and hair color called your body colors and takes recommendations for those to a core neutral base wardrobe keeping the warm vs cool in mind also then accent colors
Some of those tops were bad
Thank you, Erin, for a series that is informative but done in a fun way!
Looking forward to that silly partial shirt tuck thing going out of style. It looks so affected!
Chandra Ingram It seems a lot of influencers are suggesting it, so it isn’t very original and hopefully will be a short-lived trend. It just absolutely does not work for my short, squatty body!
It looks sloppy like you couldn't be bothered to tuck it in all the way. Or it got stuck on accident when you were pulling up your pants.
My husband sad you forgot to tuck in the other half. Lol it's called a french truck. Seriously! 🤦♀️
This is my favorite video of yours this year!! Loved it ..... and please do more. The “better” did help!!!! Thank you 💋
Thank you so much, Chrissy! xo
Now I can’t UNSEE the crotch framing part on that tunic! So glad I don’t have any of these. This was a great video!
Yes! My thoughts EXACTLY!!!!!!
I'm so glad that this was helpful, Maryann! xo
Maryann Martin If you like shorts, wear shorts! Life is too short for sweaty legs 😸
I'm 70 and I love my shorts! Knee length ones, not too short.
Veggie V But things happen when you get older. I like shorts , but at 65 I just noticed ( it did seem to happen fast) that my skin around my knees looks saggy and crepey plus I have bad veins in my legs. I am making a lot of changes as I age. Sometimes
I just wear shorts anyway bc it’s so hot.
Very helpful!
Could you do a video on skirts and dresses that are frumpy over 40? My wardrobe definitely needs updating!
I'll definitely try! xo
The middle one with the shorts. I did love how you turned that blue top around and put the print on the back! Instant awesome. Thank you
Glad you liked it! xo
OMG...I LOVED his video. One of your best! Keep me out of "frump town" and the "crotch framing tunic." It's terrible they market these clothes to us and it's AWFUL! What next? Kaftans for your night out on the town? lol. Keep these coming. They are so helpful!
You are too funny, Camille! I'm so glad that you liked this and I'll definitely be doing another! xo
I'm glad you found some of these tips helpful, Christine! Always important to find the tips that work best for you. xo
Those shoes at the beginning😂. Couldn’t agree with you more, burn them jokers.
Makeupjunki76 but we all know family members that wear them to the picnic! Lol
Ha Ha! xo
😂
Treat yourself to an excellent pair of gorgeous shoes. There are so many gorgeous comfort shoes out there.
Makeupjunki76 save them for gardening! 🤣
I just have to say the khaki pants are frumpy because they hit almost mid calf!!! Those pants should be right above the ankle bone.
Cropped pants cut the legs off. So do those pants that stop at the ankle. I know everyone loves to show their shoes, but I feel so much slimmer when I have straight or flare leg pants that are long.
They are Capri pants
As a plus size woman (now grandma) her "turn the top around" idea just makes me laugh. Right.
😂😂😂 thanks for the laugh :))) ❤️
You have helped me so much with my clothes style. I like the better and best options just because sometimes you don't have time to change clothes. Great video. I am also wondering if you could do an eyeglasses video. I just never seem to like my glasses once I leave the store. What eye glass frames and colors look more youthful. Thanks for all you do.
I'm so glad, Lu Ann! I am working on an eyeglass video! xo
The last outfit, the worst is like a refined version of the lady in the Tiger king on Netflix.
I knew there was a reason I stopped shopping at Chico’s! They desperately need some new designers.
And fabrics! They seem to only use polyesters
Agree. Chicos idea to hide a tummy is to put you in a tent. Horrible. Oh, and 5 chunky necklaces
I'm working on this video now. Hope you are ok! xo
Agree with Virtually Dee totally. Some of us cant wear form fitting clothes
I love this series! FRUMPTOWN is a place we never need to go
I'm so glad, Hope! xo
Great suggestion, Rejeanor! Thank you! xo
The blouse you're wearing for the whole video is super-frumpy to me. Baggy and those stringy tassles. A "tent top" for sure. What did you find "good" about it? Maybe i'm missing something.
I agree... It adds 10 years.... Not the best option
Ahaha! I was actually looking for this comment because I knew I couldn’t be the only one who thought this same thing.
I think the blouse is pretty
I00% agree!!
I'm cracking up at your "frumpy" dance moves!! I love that you have so much fun making videos like this.
That's sweet, Clara! xo
Thank you, Pahla! 💜

Thank you for sharing.
Such great advice! "When you look good, you feel good!" And when you feel good (confident, relaxed, etc), you look good.
I think cultivating your own style is an ongoing process you should start as young as possible; a lot of people at any age become invisible because they are not dressed nor acting as individuals.
The trick of putting the front side of the top to the back is amazing 👌🏽👌🏽
Thank you so much!!!
The last one was def the worst, while also being the best “better”.
I love that feedback...thank you! xo
Yes, I would like to see more videos like this, include the middle "better" stage. Thanks!
You got it! xo
@@MC-gq5ms Try zappos and search by flats. I love the Clarks shoes.
This is so much better than just talking about style!. Showing them side by side with the tweaks done at each is way way more helpful. Please continue to do these videos!
SO glad you enjoyed this video, Renee! Thanks for your support. xo
Thank you so much for this sweet note, Mary Beth! It is much appreciated! xo
Yes, so helpful! Sometimes I can tell outfits aren't great, but can't see exactly why, or how to make it better, so this is excellent. More, please!
Yes! More anti-frump videos always welcome. 😊
More to come, Nancy! Glad you liked it! xo
Glad I could help, Jacqueline! xo
Great video. Personally I just liked the bad vs Best.It helps with shopping and closet clearing. I'm 60 so these tips are very helpful.
I'm so glad, Meryl! xo
Please do more of these. I would really appreciate a frumpy vs. stylish shoes video!
Will do! Thank you! xo
Busbee Style I had trouble seeing the shoes due to the placement of the labels. Is that an iPhone issue or are they truly on top of the shoes?
Yes, I want to see more of the upgrading the frumpy to updated. Not necessarily looking younger but just fresher with more style. Much appreciated.
@Busbee Style - I agree with you on some points regarding hair, with that said, parting the hair has to do with shape of the face. Parting my hair perfectly on the side makes me look sexy while down the middle is a big no no. Thanks for the video.
Raivila Freedom AND THE SIZE OF YOUR NOSE😂
Depends on the shape of your face, side parting is more flattering for me now- I wore it parted long and in the middle in 70’s & early 80’s- hate that term “Mom/Bob”- that style is more flattering for many and classic, too...!
My favorite was the "hat, khaki pants, and white top" series; least favorite was the last series with the kamono.
If you've done this already, I apologize. Could you please do a video addressing active wear/lounge wear that could be worn in public? I always have a hard time finding comfortable weekend clothing. Thank you. 😊
Hi Alicia...Check out this video that I did about wearing leggings in public. It is not all activewear, but I think that you will enjoy it! xo
@@BusbeeStyle Thank you.
Good luck! xo
The last one reminded of Helen in Three's Company.
😂😁
Haha. Me, too!
OMG yes!!!🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
YYEESSSS!! You nailed it lol! Annnnnd we are aging ourselves 😅
On behalf of the women who look in the mirror every morning and think "who is THAT?", I want you to know that we appreciate everything you do 😁
Welcome, Micky! That is SO incredibly sweet of you to say! Love being able to help women feel their best! xo
I was dressed like “frump town” this morning for work. Thought of this video and changed!
Loved it - yes, I would love to see more of this - Bad, Better, Best!!
I'm so glad, Christy! xo
Yes! So helpful. Could you do a video on how to style a kimono/robe. Love your channel
My best version of myself is leaving the house showered, makeup on, clean clothes, and deodorant.😂
I loved this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your sense of humor is hysterical! Turning the shirt around, what a great idea!!!!!! I would love to see this same concept on someone older, shorter hair, and heavier. Thanks for all you do Erin!!!!
Great video! I am 55 and a size 0. I love all of your advice and videos. If I had frumpy clothes, I would skip the better and go straight to best!
I teach so I’m on my feet all day. Could you do a video on cute shoes that are comfortable? My feet are narrow so it’s hard to find shoes.
I could not agree more! A video of cute, low-heeled shoes that are comfortable would be wonderful.
I have wide toes and narrow heels - shape is important. I found a brand for you - umberto raffini. Stylish and comfy, but cut a bit narrow
I share your pain
OMG! How could I live without this channel so far??
I'm SO glad you find my channel helpful! xo
The poncho was the worst. The last one was the best. I like the “better” in case I don’t have pieces to make “best”.
I’ve learned so much from you!! Thank you ❤️ Just using a hair tie to gather the front of a t-shirt was a revelation.
So true! Glad you enjoyed! xo
Love this video! I think the last outfit was the most dramatic transformation. I also love how much the hat modernized the forth outfit!
Thank you, Olivia! xo
I could watch these videos all day, every day....please do more!
That Kimono could look stunning on the right person and paired with the right clothes and accessories - needs to be worn by a tall person who does not need to look like a twenty-year old.
nope, not with that corny floral pattern. Flowers&cheetah always look trashy. I doesn't suit anybody.
This is great for someone who is thin, but a lot of us have gained weight and wear the larger tops to cover a 7-month pregnant-looking belly. It would be so helpful to get tips on how to deal with a large, out of proportion middle.
Thank you for the un-frumpy video! Personally, the last was the worst "bad" and the white tank was the best "best". Have a great day!
This is your best series of videos yet! Thank you for this TED talk. 😂
Glad you enjoy it! You are too funny, Heather! xo
This was SO much fun Erin! I’m loving these videos - very cool adding the “better” version as well even though I would always opt for the “best”😉.
I think there was just no saving the bedazzled t with those shorts🙈.
Have a beautiful weekend 💕

Thank you so much for the illustrations- helping us see better is really helpful - images are needed so I can really see it.
I definitely need the images to grasp your helpful points; I am probably much more frumpier than I thought I was!!
SO glad it was helpful! xo
Tucking into my pants and showing my belly is not an option for me. And I don't understand what is so bad about the sandals. Will you please explain. I think they and the loud too you hate could look good on the right person who could carry that high energy
Debbie ...-and welcome yourself to old-lady-land. The compliments you’re receiving are either from
1. Other old ladies
2. Younger people trying to be nice
You are SO sweet, Lauren! I'm glad you are enjoying them! xo
YES PLEASE MORE MORE MORE !! SO HELPFUL! NEED LOTS OF GOOD WAYS TO fIx the wardrobe, & for different type of outings - for every season! thanks!!!
More to come! Glad this was helpful! xo
@@BusbeeStyle oh YAY!! ❤️❤️
I loved the quirky, boho vibe. It may not be everyone's style, but it's definitely the "not frumpy" version of a duster or kimono look.
The robe seems out of place for going out in public, I agree. I've been watching Kara Para Ask on Netflix (such good fashion!), and now here I am on YT looking at fashion tips 😂
Loved this Erin -another way to look at your wardrobe and feel good about yourself. Thank you for all that you do🇦🇺
You are so welcome, Katarina! xo
Great video. This was a total public service message!!! Listen up ladies - we can be sexy over 40!! Thanks!!
Katarina vanNimwegen great comment totally agree 🇦🇺🇦🇺
❤️ “I don’t want to enter Frumptown.”
Same! Which is why I love your channel.
Love that, Jennifer! xo
Couldn't see the "good" sandals -- would have liked a closeup.
“Getting out of frump town, heading to cool town” 😂 love these videos!
Yes, this is helpful! Bad, better, best is a good way to demonstrate. Thank you for all you do, you have opened my eyes!
the worst is the frumpy, over decorated t-shirt, the best is the last best outfit, with that cute leopard duster and the tank!
I agree!!!!
