After the update, the game feels amazing to drive. BUT... I have 25 real-world race car replicas (some of which are yours) and a good chuck of them have been destroyed by the update. I just can't figure out how to stop the cars from compressing and locking the front wheels when I turn. If I do stop them, they are way to stiff and wants to kill you. It's super annoying.
Edit: Now 33 real-world cars with 2 on the way
Edit 2: HELP. PLZ HELP. I can't stop making cars
Edit 3: I think im at 40 cars now

The more realistic, the better. I want it to be as close to real as possible. If I wanted an arcade game, I would go play Forza.
There can be less realistic modes for casuals, but dont make me have to play that. Keep the controller though. The dual shock does good at simulating bumps and shifts and things. The wheel isn't as realistic as Id want because I cant feel the car. The controller is fine.

I really don't like the new physics. Like many I have had to tinker with car setups that I had perfected for months only to find I can never get them quite right! Quite a few cars are undriveable now as well.

    • @stormmeansnowork
      @stormmeansnowork 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I felt negative about the new physics too, and also the general direction that the game is going. Here is why - the cars are universally more understeering now, and I am not talking about tuned cars that now require further tuning, but rather the weekly online TT cars and the cars in the Circuit Experience, which is why I am inclined to believe in what was said in this video. In the recent weeks, the developers tend to give us cars with heavy understeer on tracks with lots of consecutive corners. In the case of the Subaru, it even intentionally up the power to make the understeer more profound and to make the car characteristics less predictable. The result of this is that for players on controllers such as myself, it would require even more detailed level of input to make the car drive-able (particularly the throttle input), and I am not even good at MT, so it is far worse for AT drivers as far as I can tell.
If you have tried the Nordschleife CE before, it used to be very slidy even if you put on ASM and countersteeting assists, but I now need to drive it with these assists off to really get the best out of it. I haven't tried that many cars since the update, and I will certainly feel annoyed if they are indeed doing so to push people to use a steering wheel

Glad it's not just me. Hours and hours painstakingly tweaking car handling, suspension and diff settings to get handling how I like it.
Now: just miles and miles of chronic understeer. And I can't dial it out without stupid settings that destroy all balance and lap time. I can't get within a second or more of my previously set fastest laps with the same car. Madness.
This isn't an exaggeration; I've ditched the game totally. I didn't see the point, objectively, spending my free time being frustrated and annoyed. Why would I voluntarily do that? So I'm back on ACC and enjoying the experience far more.

True I am on a wheel and I have a lot of setups well before the update, and I have tested some but not all. I may be wrong here, but I reckon that a good 80-90% of players use a controller. Wheels & Sim rigs are far from cheap, & a lot, if not a vast majority of players, can't afford this. If they focused on wheels more they would lose most of their players. Owning a wheel or Sim rig should be a bonus for you, lucky you, not a must, for ALL players. They could simply separate the online races to controller only or Wheel only races. They should also categorise races to assists ONLY, or NONE only. Not TCS or BB but menu Assists. Having people race with the menu Assists ON v players with none will AlLWAYS cause issues.

I don’t understand the need to overhaul the physics on GT7. Why not wait til GT8? To me the new physics have stripped identity that’s unique to GT7, further showing how schizophrenic this game has been.
GT Sport for all intents and purposes was a complete game at launch and worked as intended, it was greatly expanded upon over the years but the core of the game never changed. The core of GT7 (and what can be considered its core) has changed so much that it feels much more like an experiment at the players’ expense.
I feel like GT8 will be the GT7 that was “promised” when it was first announced and that GT7 will be remembered as a test tube.

If the day come, I'll let it go. Something similar happened with Project Cars 3 and, I dropped the franchise. Project Cars 2 was a very good race sim, PC3 went full arcade when it dropped. That disappointed the entire fan base. But just moved on, didn't lose ANY sleep over it. As far as the physics change, I like the way it feels on controller. To me it feels more like you have to be smoother with your inputs and, I like that. If you've ever played any recent motorcycle racing games like the Motogp series or Ride, being very smooth with your inputs is key. I've always felt like Gran Turismo sould punish jarring controller inputs like slamming on breaks or abrupt acceleration, especially on different surfaces. But the rain physics still need a little more work.

I've played the game for around a year now and tuned many cars now and I had it happen when I tried to fit ultimate parts to the R32 Nismo...
I kind of fixed it one way, in which it wouldn't have been unusable in most races, but using bad tyres on the front wheels!
Sports or rain tyres on the front wheels with full racing tyres on the rear...
However the one thing that actually fixed the problem and let me use any tyres I want was fitting an LSD! 😯😀🤘 .
If that hadn't worked I was going to try a 4WD adjuster, brake balance controller and an anti lag kit, but as said an LSD was "all" it took - hopefully it fixes the problem for you! 😯😀🤘🤞 .

I think that it is not that impossible that in the future they will go for a 2 game strategy based on the same engine and such for 2 types or racing games.... one for controller and casual gaming and one for steering wheel and more the pure realistic racing things. Just the difference between Dirt 4, 5 and Dirt Rally (2). One more casual and fun - the other realistic.
In a way they can add and use race tracks and cars for the realistic gaming experience - with some cars add that you can do for trackdays and such. And call it SPORTS.
While more roadbased cars and tracks - like a long awaited version of Drive Club - with controller friendly physics that you could play with a wheel for the more casual fan base. Gran Turismo (nr X)
Ofcourse with an upgrade you can have both versions and after your initial pay hopefully the updates are still free. Or that they have the Alpha game in SPORTS and you add GT x for a full game. (and still a heavy wheel based road cars engine) While if you just buy GT x you don't have acces to Sports.
I also forsee maybe in the future different packs for GT since their cars base is so large and different ... between historic or what they do now between before 00's and after 00's. That you have to buy the a seperate 'classic' edition to get updates for older cars.

After 1.49 I just waited for 1.50 because some cars were really broken. I initially was very annoyed to have to setup every tuned car all over again. But it was doable. Most were just related to the spring rate and compression/expansion levels. They all drive very stable again.

You see, after 1.49, I am much more optimistic about Gran Turismo than I ever was, cuz anything we can wish can come back, like Volvo coming back, the Super Silhouette, Eiger coming back, anything can return now, and the last update was very geared towards casual players rather than e-sport players, because Eiger is very hard to race above Gr.3, is a very narrow track with little to no run-off areas. And considering that Cape Ring is in the files of the game, I don't think a GT Sport 2 will happen just like you're saying.

Here's an idea in regards to the previous Special Projects: Once we know for absolute certain GT7 is done with updates, make a quickfire update video on the builds that's the most outdated. Parts are all the same (except maybe a few Ultimate Parts from before 2.0), it's just the changes to Suspension and Diff. It can be just the screenshots of said vehicles. It doesn't have to be all of them and I don't expect the video to get many views, but it's just for those few who still love driving those Builds and want to continue to enjoy them until GT8 rolls around.

A couple years after "GT7 is done with updates" the servers probably will be shut down. And most of the cars from those builds will be inaccessible for the new players. Coz both Legendary and Used dealerships are fully server-based. Cars produced before 2000 will be lost forever for those who don't have them.
And i highly doubt that they make a patch that will made this function a client-based. They never did it for GT5, and GT Sport also lost all it's online features including livery editor. You cannot even change a color of your car. The only thing they did for those game is the ability to have a local save. Same will happen for GT7. I've had similar concerns too, especially when GT Sport was released and it was such a departure from previous titles. In the past GT has always been the perfect middle ground between arcade style and sim racers to me and I don't have the physical space, money or desire to have a wheel setup so I really hope it doesn't go in this direction. Gran Turismo has literally been a system seller in my case as I saved up for ages to get a PS2 just to play Gran Turismo 3 and I held off on a PS3 until there was a proper Gran Turismo game available for it. I'd hate to lose the classic elements of the series that I've always loved like all the weird and wacky cars you'd never see in other racing games or tuning ordinary everyday cars into monsters and the fact that you *can* get quite in depth with tuning if you want to but it's possible to get a full experience out of the game without a wheel or deep knowledge about camber angles etc. I don't think the overlords at Sony would be too pleased either if they shut out such a big portion of the customer base.

What makes no sense to my eyes in a car racing game is the fact that Gran Turismo doesn't allow even minor changes in settings in the online races hosted every week.
    That makes no sense.
Set-ups on cars are a big part of what makes races interesting (real world or not).
Gt Sport was very disapointing to me, in this regard.
    And GT7 online A B C is the same bullshI7.
The 'no settings + BoP' way of 'racing' proves, to my eyes, that they do not want to leave the casual gamers on the side of the road. They just don't realize that some of them would be able to fine tune their cars better than they drive. And play with their sticks on par with guys with wheels.
Cars are still meaning 'freedom' to many of us:
No speed limit on the track.
No horsepower limit on your console. No settings limit.

Since it's an always online game with lots of online connectivity and challenges, I doubt that that will happen...
Although they COULD let us play the game a bit like in FIFA games for around the last ten years, since "tactical" defending became mandatory in competitive/tanked online matches, however thankfully you can still use "legacy" defending in all offline modes and in online friendlies 😯😀 ...
However I reckon that even IF they let us switch between both physics models, we'd still had to use the new model in all the driving challenges, missions and licence tests (unless they would have two sets of target times, but it would probably get too confusing...).
All in, we're probably "stuck" with it unless things change back or go somewhere in the middle! 😯😀🤘 .

Sony knowing full well how badly sold gt sport, wouldn't let Kaz have his way with the new installments unless it was added as separate option something like hardcore mode in call of duty. You can play with physics adjusted to the controller or change them to full blown simulation that can work only with a rig. It would require few changes to multiplayer to prevent people playing with arcade physics to play with people who prefer simulation.

For all the road car builds being killed by new physics, it's time to accept that you can't really tune it that way, offering that low boundary doesn't mean it can work well with that.

I think they put a lot of focus on how the game feels on hand controllers, rather than neglect it, so there’s no reason to think they would let that slip. Especially when GT is one of the premier PS games for playstation and sells consoles. But I also think if they’re going to go to such lengths to provide a detailed model of the car the it should have an accurate DM as well rather than just ‘what’s fun.’ I’m pleased to see them trying to create accurate physics rather than just slew something more simplified between under and oversteer. The latest update is a bit confusing with setups, car tuning seems to be a lot more on/off in terms of drivability but when they’re on the cars do seem to behave the way you’d expect them to in real life, specifically in how you have to manage the throttle and can’t do video gamey stuff like full power exits. It’s nice to hit the brakes and notice the car wobble slightly like you’d expect it to. I have a controller and wheel and right now still have fun using both, so I don’t see where there should be any worry about things tilting wheel side. Kaz is going to Kaz but Sony still owns them and they’re not going to let him ruin a flagship for the general playstation population.
I think TT is a bit of a difficult case as well because rider stance has so much to do with how you handle and it’s really hard to fully simulate that with a controller. It was weird in TT and you basically settled on a specific maxed posture which felt very artificial and gamey, and maybe that’s what he’a talking about when he says he’d rather have TT set up for a full controller of some sort. I don’t even know what it would look like, some sort of full size tilting apparatus? I think it’s more of a design difficulty though. They have the same issues with cars but again I think they have stayed on top of translating controller input into expected steering response.

I felt negative about the new physics, and also the general direction that the game is going. Here is why - the cars are universally more understeering now, and I am not talking about tuned cars that now require further tuning, but rather the weekly online TT cars and the cars in the Circuit Experience, which is why I am inclined to believe in what was said in this video.
In recent weeks, the developers tend to give us cars with heavy understeer on tracks with lots of consecutive corners (the upcoming TT is at Suzuka btw, and the S-curves will be a nightmare). In the case of the Subaru, they even intentionally up the power to make the understeer more profound and made the car much less predictable at different RPM range. The result of this is that for players on controllers such as myself, it would require even more detailed input to make the car drive-able (particularly the throttle input), and even worse for AT drivers like myself.
If you have tried the Nordschleife CE before, it used to be a bit slidy even if you put on ASM and countersteeting assists, but I now need to drive it with these assists off to really get the best out of it. I haven't tried that many cars since the update, and I will certainly feel annoyed if they are indeed doing so to push people to using a steering wheel

Sony only needs to look over the fence at Microsoft and the Forza series to know that racing games that lean toward the arcade end of the spectrum (Horizon) are measurably more popular than ones that lean toward the simulator end (Motorsport), even if you discount FM2023's myriad unforced errors. As a consequence, they're going to keep Kaz's leash rather tight.
Having said that, there are a few areas where I think Kaz could be allowed to go hog-wild without completely shutting out casuals. One would be allowing players to adjust suspension settings on each of a car's four corners (Not sure if the GT7 engine could even do that.), which would give us nerds more tools to optimize a setup (especially for ovals), but you could give people who aren't interested in going that deep the option to tick a box to automatically apply settings symmetrically left-to-right like they are now.

I think with the release of the movie and with a ton of real-world tie-ins that directly affect gameplay rather than as cool easter eggs for car nerds, Gran Turismo is cashing in far more on its branding and marketing as some kinda lifestyle thing rather than as a pure "game". If GT8 is dropped because they cannot make it realisitic enough I dont think anyone will care because if you are persistent, you can find a GT4 ROM and use the PSX or whatever its called to emulate it with mods.

Maybe the update for wheel turning is better am not sure, i feel that they put more oversteer and they say that delay on wheel is more natural..Personaly i prefer faster wheel and control the car by feeling but i think that they change a lot the brake physic with abs point and that make difficult the game!!

The somewhat but not so real driving "simulator". That's as far as i can give it.
As far as Tourist Trophy.....we put THOUSANDS of hours on it back in the day. Definitely was anticipating a sequel but with how Kaz and polyphony have been for the past few years, I wouldnt even care to buy into that anymore.

I cant believe how few people use a wheel and pedal set up. I haven't played a gt game on a controller since gt4.

At least this time they made physics better in my opinion,

Some cars are better, some are worse. Open wheel cars have no FFB, and there are still strange suspension/grip issues that effect a lot of cars.

Guess I'm not the only one concerning about this, recent update makes it not enjoyable to play and grind. Once the tires going to red, the wheels spin out of control....

Hello HSG , its been a long time Im following you . I think the update physics it was good update overall . Maybe can be better . I want to ask you what is you re ‘ DR and SR . I mean average people that dont playing multiplayer or challenges maybe the last they dont like it at all . Only maybe the cars that they add inside there was fun of them . I dont know if you get my point but I think they made it a bit more realistic .

I think Kaz is starting to feel the pressure of the upcoming Assetto Corsa 2 "Evo" and it's almost certain debut on consoles in the near future and he's thinking that his game, his pride and joy, is going to fall behind (yet again) on the sim-racing scene 😕

Fall behind in what way? GT is Always the #1 selling racing game. Sim or other wise. People know what GT us and what to expect from it. ACC is competition is Iracing and the like.
