Lang's (who re-recorded the song with Roy as a duet in 1988), performance of this song, at his tribute concert on February 24, 1990 (posted on here by clevelandlivemusic). She received a 4 minute standing ovation (she has basically inherited the song). Roy Orbison was a legend. His broken heart songs hit me right in the feels, and his voice was like no other. Some other great songs to react to:
    Blue Angel
    Only the Lonely
    It's Over
    In Dreams
The story about his glasses was twofold. He was painfully shy. He also had terrible vision and needed to wear his glasses to see anything. One gig he either lost or broke his regular glasses and so put on his prescription sunglasses. It ended up adding an air of mystery to his on-stage persona and he felt more comfortable in public wearing them since they hid his eyes. Due to his shyness, he basically stood motionless on stage while performing his songs, and the sunglasses just added something to his look. Thus it became a part of his persona and he wore sunglasses from then on.

I loved seeing Shawn and Mel's appreciation and 'feels' from hearing Roy's masterpiece. His voice was like velvet; so smooth and comforting but yet portraying such emotions. Hugs from Oz

Roy could see, but he needed prescription glasses. One night he either forgot, or lost his prescription glasses (Sorry, don't remember which) and it was show time, and all he had were his prescription sunglasses to wear on stage. People started talking about him wearing his shades indoors, at night. Soon, it became his trademark.
It has been mentioned here several times already about his duet of this song with K.D. Lang, and they are all correct, it is AMAZING. Also, K.D's solo version of this song (Without Roy) will give you CHILLS... Hauntingly beautiful.

Roy was one of the greats! Unfortunately. His life was full of health problems and family tragedy! A sad, sad story for one of the greats! You NEED to read about his life. ALSO, HE HAD A 2 OCTAVE VOICE RANGE...

Hillbilly Opera, you are missed brother Roy. Black and White Night was performed and recorded in 1987, with a 100 M $ band and a billion $ audience in the Cocoanut Grove in LA. Last performance by Orbison before he passed in 88. Guitar battle between James Burton and Bruce Springsteen during "Pretty Woman" is epic. Roy Orbison, along with his many friends was stellar that night. Thanks for the memories, RIP.

How do you like our music now, pretty special isn't it. We lived it. Now you got to hear K. D. Lang do this song. Even Roy said she knocked it out of the park.

I agree with a lot of your other subscribers. You really need to watch the video with him and K.D. Lang singing this song. It is really great.
