As an Australian watching this, i just can't understand the police responders and paramedics not at all helping this badly beaten man, i just can not understand that how in the earth you can call this a civilized society?
Being rich is not an indication of being civilized. Pablo Escobar was very rich... Not having a public healthcare system says it all. Half of the population are selfish and indifferent. Too many people. Now the whole world can see it.
The definition of "civilized society" seems to have been distorted to meet the oppression of a certain group of people. (The Mayflower Pilgrims call the American Indians "savages" but all the tribal nations (millions) had organized, functioning societies and they "taught" and helped the "civilized" white newcomers how to survive.)
Exactly!!! I would have ran too. Your body automatically goes into fight or flight mode in a situation like that. I know I couldn't fight back so I would have ran for my life also. Especially if my home was just 80 yards away.
if several people were screaming at me like that (who can even understand what they are saying, when they all bark at the same time), I would run, too. It's a normal instinctive reaction, and they should know that. This poor guy was so calm I couldn't believe it.
I'm an old white woman and I know what it's like to be minding my own business and suddenly be confronted with a obviously out of control police officer. "What did I do?" That question made him explode! 2 mph over the speed limit. Yes, 2! He barked orders at me faster than i could comply and realizing I was a large, old woman decided not to man handle me but to put his hand on his gun in his holster and say, "I can shoot you for that!" For what, I thought. I also thought that if he did, he'd make up some story to justify it. I noticed the staff at the dentist office where I was headed were looking out the window. Witnesses. Would it matter? Probably not. Thats when I burst into tears. Suddenly his face went stoic, turned around, walked back to his car, got in and drove off. When I told our police chief he told me I was lieing!!! I learned later that he was dismissed for some reason and working for another PD. As a result of how terrified I was, the blue uniform no longer represents safety. I cry every time I hear news of cop misconduct. Gangs of cops like this SCORPION unit going around as terrorists in blue. Because they can. Tyre was terrified and I feel it! But they can't call him a lier.

As horrible as this is, don't for one moment think we don't need the police. I've been in countries where there is not effective policing. What we need is to pay for quality- pay enough that quality people want to do this work, pay for quality training, pay for the social services and programs that deal with many of the situations that stress police out and push them to the edge. When you hear Republicans screaming to cut taxes, this is the result. It's been forty-plus years since the "Reagan Revolution." This is the result.
@@Reaper-cm4jr Of course not! People who wonder why he ran are the same people that an witness auto accident and stand there frozen. Incapable of even walking up to a car and asking a driver, are you hurt. I've seen it many, many times.
The matter of killing comes across extremely personal and emotional. Something way more significant yet to be revealed. They intended to cause a significant harm to Tyre and him dying with injury, should be categorized as the first degree murder, not the second degree.
Yup, it's murder with intent to lie, which is first degree. Premedition can happen within seconds, not hours days or years. When the guy turned away, that itself is premeditation. They're initially charged with second degree, but when a prosecutor starts talking it'll change. I've been on both sides of crimes and in court and it's scary when a prosecutor starts talking. If there's any justice, a good prosecutor will take this one as it is. When I was like 9, I'm 32 now, when I was 9 was the last time I lied. I was found out almost immediately and o learned then you can lie on this civilized world. The fact that we had 2 years of George Floyd, body cams and the fact that everyone owns a personal camera with good tech, you can literally best someone to death, with an audience, and you won't be found out. Smh.
The sad fact is if the CIA or FBI used their powers to investigate the law enforcement, we wouldn't even have cops. Think about it, only people who wanna be cops are vets and people that couldn't even enlist, either of those groups should be monitored all the time because those people, are trouble. To be a cop when you could make more money doing anything else, says something. I see children on TH-cam make more money unboxing toys, don't even say it's for a paycheck.
That was first degree IMHO. Second degree, seems like a little more than second degree, seems like they can hopefully plea bargain down to involuntary and get probation, suspended sentencing, the gangs in blue.

May he RIEP. Condolences to the Nichols family. Just why…. he’s clearly feared for his life😮& attempts to flee to his mum’s house. The initial scorpion traffic unit stop is suspicious, why aren’t there more officers being charged? Officers are vexed imo because he’d had the audacity to flee to his mums’ house for his life. Officers then cuffed, tortured & left him semiconsciously bleeding/dying - they murdered him. Further neglect by medics too but officers took time to wash pepper spray from their eyes & smoking cigarettes. Thugs in blue who didn’t know also they were being CCTV recorded or just plain didn’t care & lacked decent humanity. Horrific Rodney King behaviours.
Mr. Claxton hit the nail right on the head. The toxicity which is pervasive within the police culture is NOT primarily based in racism but within the culture itself. Until we require the proper level of education, training and psychological temperament from the officers we employ to police us as a society, this type of incident will continue. Of course this will require that we rethink the way we compensate those individuals. But just like teachers, LEOs are an essential part of our social structure, far more important in the long term than the legislators that govern over them so we need to make these professions worthy of those who are worthy of practicing them. We can bury our heads in the sand forever, but nothing will change as we can plainly see. The question is how broken does our societal back need to be before we take appropriate steps to insure change?
What's crazy is that if you look at the video over at Fox News, most of the comments are about how he should have just complied and put his arms behind his back. They act like they only watch the video just to be able to say those words. These are in human people on the right
The guy was dragged out of the car. Remember, this starts off as a traffic violation. He actually never got the chance to comply. I noticed that obsoletely nobody bothered to venture from their cells/homes to see what was going on, not one person. That's scary and sad. New norm? 👀
I am so sorry. It is heart breaking. Too many police forces have members who chose that profession because it is a place where they can act out their brutality and call it law enforcement. All applicants should be given psychological testing before they are hired.
Everytime a video like this comes out, and how things were lied on reports in this instance, how many times has this been a successful coverup? Its truly sad, and my heart goes out to the Nichols friends and families, and anyone else effected by this murder.

Well, a lot. But the problem is that weve militarized the police force, and ingrained them with a us or them mentality. They see the public as an enemy that must be controlled and subdued, not a community to protect and serve, but without the same care soldiers get coming out of war zones. This is the result.
Part of what’s terrifying that it could happen to anyone. It’s important for Justice to be served - for the family and as a deterrent (assuming it’s proven beyond a reasonable doubt). It’s all so sad. A terrible tragedy. Prayers don’t really cut it sometimes. But sometimes, they’re all you’ve got left… 🙏🙏🙏
Some people said it seemed personal. I think any black or brown person they stopped there that night would've gotten the same treatment as Tyre, whether male or female.
Agree with everything said. One thing that jumps out at me is if you put people in tactical military clothing, plain cars with firearms and special departments with aggressive acronyms like Scorpion, their psychology is likely to be that they are ready for a fight. Tye was the only one that was calm and it was like the cops were reacting to a different incident.
Why did he get pulled over , i want to see the tape from the very begging before they pull him over .Its funny the news just wants to show you what they want .
I said the following after so many of these incidents I've lost count: I worked side by side, daily, with law enforcement officers for years. Wore the same style uniform, just without a badge and gun. I have known, been friends with, gone on trips with, been to the houses of City and State officers, Park Rangers, Corrections officers, Border Patrol etc for DECADES. EVERYBODY, repeat EVERYBODY who is or has been that close to law enforcement KNOWS there is a culture. It is time they start speaking up like the former Detective.
Looking at the fact of the actual devastating, brutal, unnecessary loss of life by the hands of police, what's sad is it's going to happen again and again as it always have. Thank God for video!🙏🙏
Until cowardly police are held accountable for their actions, nothing will change. If nothing changes, nothing changes. Police unions should be abolished as they are nothing but shills for police misconduct. Police should also be forced to pay lawsuits from their pensions, not by the taxpayers.
The only thing that will happen because of this is the canine union will create an app that will alert the canines on their cell phones when they are in the vicinity of security pole cameras.
It's actually surprising they didn't know where the pole cams were given that they work the neighborhood.. better yet,. They probably knew just like having body cams on, but didn't care
What I hate is that people will try to say that he ran but HIS WHOLE LIFE WAS IN DANGER. People should not be dying from cops because they are enacting the human emotion of fear or because they are trying to defend their body from damage. Cops get way too much leeway in terms of restraining people, how was this an arrest in their eyes???
I’ve asked that question my entire life. Why does the institution of policing believe that hollering at individuals is authoritative. It never fails to escalate an already awkwardly dangerous situation. People respond, at least I do, much more rationally to calmly delivered instructions. Also, it seems when there are too many officers that they not only counter each other’s intention of safely apprehending a suspect but escalate instead of de-escalate the attempted arrest. It’s a mob mentality fueled by an institutional immorality.
Canadian here. Horrific to watch. One thing that stood out to me was the (lack of) actions by the EMTs when they showed up. He wasn't dead and with deadly injuries like he had, timely intervention could have saved his life. I'd want the EMTs and Firefighters that just stood around without helping him to also be fired and charged.
I agree 100% They should ALL be charged. If you're a health care professional, and see that someone needs aid and you don't give it, you're in the wrong job. It really saddened me to hear the EMR's stood around doing nothing.
As not only a mother but a human being with compassion towards other living beings I cannot watch this video, I didn’t do it with George Floyd and I won’t do it this this young man; there is something I gives thanks for having and that’s being aware of others suffering specially when they call for their mother 😢
I can see a $100 Million dollar lawsuit and payout by the Memphis Police Dept because of this. I didn't watch the video of the Memphis Police murdering Tyre Nichols because it sounds too traumatic to watch and because it was done by 5 people who are supposed to keep the peace 5 Police officers it sounds worse than watching a gangland murder. The Chief of Police in Memphis needs to be fired and the whole police squad retrained and also fire any Police officer who turns their body camera away from what is happening in a Police stop if something serious happened in that stop.
@@donaldnewman5836 - I disagree with whatever conclusion you’re coming to that Supreme Court has given Police the power to do things like this. I assume you’re talking about qualified immunity, but I’m pretty comfortable and saying, with all due respect, that you don’t understand what qualified immunity means. And I’m not even saying that to be nasty, most people don’t. Even people who talk about it all the time actually do not understand what qualified immunity is. I’m not saying they don’t understand the details, they don’t even understand what is in general. They either think that qualified immunity means a cop cannot be arrested, and it never means that. Never. Or they think qualified immunity means that the taxpayers have to pay for a cops action when the cop is sued, and it doesn’t mean that either. I don’t expect people to believe me, because that’s constant what they hear. But it’s not right. Qualified immunity is not the same thing as lawsuit indemnification.
@@iMatti00 What "qualified immunity" actually means and what it is made to mean in court are two VERY different things. Sure, qualified immunity is supposed to only protect action in the reasonable discharge of a cop's duties, but it is used to protect very unreasonable things because it's hard to prove that they weren't trained in that way and thus BELIEVED they were executing their duties in good faith. Keep in mind that cops work with the courthouse a lot, so it's very often a "fox guarding the hen house" situation when a citizen tries to argue a case against a cop in court. That's why people rail against qualified immunity. It the same reason why "2A" people (second amendment mega-fans) equate any attempt to make guns "well-regulated" with something evil, even though the second amendment clearly states that the reason the people's right to bear arms won't be infringed is because of the need for "well-regulated" state militias (what we now call the National Guard) to protect the states. The second amendment was never meant to be a blank check for weapons proliferation. The words "well-regulated" are right there in the amendment itself, but they aren't fans of THAT part of the "2A". What a law says and how it is implemented are two very different things here in the US, and who are we supposed to complain to in order to get it fixed? Eventually, stuff like this will lead to a violent revolution, and then, most likely, things will only get worse as even worse tyrants fill the power vacuum.
Finally, someone addresses the reality of. "Police accusations of resisting", & their role in deliberately creating scenarios. Where compliance requires actions that are then intentionally labeled, "resisting", as in this case. Which then sets in motion, "Use of Force", protocols. Where the amount of force used by police increases exponentially in order to accomplish absolute compliance. This is of course, completely subjective. Another common scenario is police demanding compliance from individuals who they have just tazered. An irrefutably unreasonable expectation under the circumstances. The sole purpose of tazing someone is to, "immobilize" the person. To deliberately cut off a person's ability to control their limbs & then demand compliance. Serves no other purpose than to allow police to engage in violent criminal acts. Under the protections of, "qualified immunity". The truth is that, Law Enforcement, does not want any solution to this problem. This becomes obvious when considering how simple the solution really is. Any officer on the scene & there are usually way more than are actually needed on the scene. So much so that you will see them standing around sharing gossip & fables or actively securing a protective perimeter around police officers. Preventing the public from helping anyone being beaten to death for fear of their own safety. By the non-subtle threat, "this could, can & will happen to you". All it takes is a single person, who is not caught up in adrenaline fueled emotion, to observe & intercede when police actions crossover into criminal acts. Yet, there is absolutely no attempt to do this despite the benefit to Law Enforcement & the public.
Let's not forget this young man was hunted. He was pulled over for a traffic violation that occurred the day before. Reckless driving from the day before!!! The man was hunted! The SCORPION TEAM is designed to hunt.
They were not high, they were improperly trained for their assignments. This was a major failure on all levels!!!! 2nd year Poorly trained cops assigned to do something they should not have been doing, with no high ranking supervision. Yeah, it’s easy to fire and charge them…. But the higher ups should also be held to account!
We’ve been highlighting this issue back in the 1960s with Dr. King all the way up through Rodney King, George Floyd, Tamir Rice, Sandra Bland, Ahmad Aubrey, and on and on up to now with Tyre Nichols. This is policing 101 in America. It has always been this way for the Black community and it has always gone ignored. And seriously, this will change absolutely nothing. Police all over the country are saying “Thank you, Next”.
The young man, Philip explained it the best he want me to lay down and comply as you are twisting and bending my body parts don’t see why he would run. If you never been in a situation like this people are scared of the police. They have earned that fear, cops have problems with power and we are sick of it . And sick of them.
As I have said many times, nobody is getting dragged out of their car in Danville, Ca or in Silicon Valley, or in many areas of Los Angeles, like Beverley Hills. The police who work there know better. Most of the cops are college grads and are getting paid a good salary to keep themselves in check. They also do more stringent background checks before hiring sociopaths. It's the tax base that makes the difference. I have been pulled over a million times and NEVER EVER was I pulled from my car.
I heard on TV that one of the officers had a problem whereas he had a disciplinary report against him in a previous job or something along the same line. If before the Memphis department hired him, why didn't they see this or do they not check?
It doesn't matter what a person or title represents. When people become drunk with power all of their humanity is lost. You are a sick coward when you participate in a beatdown. A gang, is gang, is a gang. Even a certain type of thug in a street gang would have stepped in to stop the rest of his crew. "Mob Mentality" is very real. (Look it up, it's a real term) Think about that the next time pleasure is found when watching one of those videos on social media depicting street fights involving multiple people. I personally don't watch them nor take pleasure from watching those videos. Everyone here is a follower. No decent person would have allowed this. That's what separates leaders from followers. This includes the EMS that just stood there after they had arrived. RIP Mr. Tyre Nichols.
I have, as an immigrant, always said that the problem with America is not black or white. It is blatant egoism expressed by every American and even narcissism. It is American culture. Even in the education system such arrogance exist.
They shouldn't have granted them bail!!! They literally tortured and brutalized an innocent guy for a traffic violation?! Wth! Grrrr 😡🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 RIP Tyre 💔😭💔💔💔💔
Where we need to have body cameras is inside police training sessions and some of these 'warrior training' and other 'pep talk' like orientation. If the civilian is calm and trying to cooperate and they are only shouting, someone is instructing that this is how you should handle it. The graduating officer cadet should be told: "Forget all that cynical vet talk you will get your first day out. What we tried to teach you here still applies."
I thought police are trained to de-escalate a situation not escalate it. I tell you some police have an axe to grind or they're on a power trip . Either way more vetting is definitely needed. Cannot have psychos running around with badges
Police training should be like medical training…. It can’t stop the day you finish the police academy,…as with medical personnel, peoples lives are in their hands…. Supervision should not be reserved for rookies, but should continue up to the 5th year. These cops were all 2nd year officers, as I was reading !
The American tax payers should not be providing cover or paying for police misconduct aggression or there barbaric behavior .which allows them to escape real prosection or justice.
Philip here makes a point that I in fact noticed. When the cops pepper sprayed Tyre they backed away but ended up also getting some in their faces ...Now if that was just getting a mist of it, what about Tyre that got a Full Blast in the face and mouth? I mean, you can hear them not only coughing but also see them washing their faces to ease the pepper spray. At that point they should of checked Tyre and rendered aid. An extensive investigation should be done on all these cops and their supervisors going back 6mos or even a year, cause im not convinced that these officers woke up that day and decided that they was gonna treat a routine stop like a full on impending terrorist attack or mass shooting. These cops look cocky enough to have done this before and this was just another day at the job! EXCEPT! Tyre fled for his life!! I was also surprised to see that no one came out, is that an abandoned neighborhood? It cant be cause his mom lives 3 houses down. As a community we have to police the police, because if we dont they start to think they are without impunity, hence what happened to Tyre. I cried as I watched the cruelty and disregard for another persons life. When he was pulled over he was polite and asked why, Tyre even said "I didnt do anything" as they pulled him out of the car and tased. When he called for his mom, I started wailing hoping someone would come out of their house and help him or call an ambulance. This is by far one of the worse videos I have seen about police brutality.
I implore every federal and state inmate to start sharpening any object you can. Make these thugs pay with their lives, and may prison justice come swiftly and without mercy.
You obviously aren’t aware about how difficult it is to handcuff many people. If you wanna grab their arm and break it, then you can handcuff it. But nowhere to do so in the proper way is often very difficult if the person does not let you, unless they’re just extremely weak. So they could be strong either because they work out, because they’re on drugs, or because their adrenaline is pumping.
That man ran for his life point Blank PERIOD. Its crazy how the police can fear for their life but Tyre couldn't fear for HIS.

SO sad. I watched the George Floyd video and it actually made me sick. I couldn't get it out of my mind. I noticed that the cops did NOT have their sirens or cop car lights on when they pulled Tyre over OR when they were beating him which resulted in none of the residents checking out what was going on.
Wow, Phillip nailed it in all its terrible, abhorrent detail.

Vigilantism disguised as police officers.
Wilding with a badge.
This has nothing to do with vigilantism. It was a group of murderers who have probably done this multiple times.
Put another way, police officers acting like vigilantes.. it's a fine line and those 5 cops crossed it.

RIEP, Tire.
I bet that this wasn’t the first time that unit has done that!!! Nothing has happened to them until now!🤔

I am so sorry. It is heart breaking. Too many police forces have members who chose that profession because it is a place where they can act out their brutality and call it law enforcement. All applicants should be given psychological testing before they are hired.

I think you're missing the point, you cannot compare a soldier on the battlefield with a law enforcement officer.
How many Public Pension teat suckers live in Reality?
Well, a lot. But the problem is that weve militarized the police force, and ingrained them with a us or them mentality. They see the public as an enemy that must be controlled and subdued, not a community to protect and serve, but without the same care soldiers get coming out of war zones. This is the result.

Some people said it seemed personal. I think any black or brown person they stopped there that night would've gotten the same treatment as Tyre, whether male or female.
All this happened cuz the American justice system is a broken joke of an institution.

Because officers think they are above the law and think they are god.
The Government and the Supreme Court of the United States gave these people that kind of power and let not forget the racist Police Union.
If you look at policing today then you can see there are NO good cops. They are just enablers and bad cops.
That’s a shame what those officers did to that young guy🥲
Police Are An Embarassement
The 5 🐀 s 👮♂️ will take the 5th as usual 🇺🇸 😀 🙄 and it happen again and again worst cops in world 🌎 bother none
Thank you Mr. Philip!!! You said it all!!!

Police all over the country are saying “Thank you, Next”.
this is way I want to learn voodoo
The young man, Philip explained it the best he want me to lay down and comply as you are twisting and bending my body parts don’t see why he would run. If you never been in a situation like this people are scared of the police. They have earned that fear, cops have problems with power and we are sick of it . And sick of them.
So where is BLM when they are needed dont they feel it is wrong?
He literally feared for his life, he probably was playing back past traumas of what you have seen in the past/ similar situations.
Rodney king disagrees with you.
99% of the time nothing happens. They get fired and goto a different department or when prosecuted there is jury nullification.
And the police union will still defend these "few bad apples." Nah dude. It's you so-called "good apples" protecting them that are the problem.
The problem is you get what you vote for. Rinse repeat cycle
I heard on TV that one of the officers had a problem whereas he had a disciplinary report against him in a previous job or something along the same line. If before the Memphis department hired him, why didn't they see this or do they not check?
The analysis done by the third gentleman (Philip) was bang on.
Unfortunately everyone has that right
They got bail???? Next they will be heading to a country with whom the US does not have an extradition treaty.
They have to know they are fu*ked.
You know I got to thinking 🤔... I am wondering how they had the money to post bail?? Are we looking at a Roger situation from Training Day??
This is by far one of the worse videos I have seen about police brutality.
i want to see what happened BEFORE the traffic stop! im willing to bet he RAN for a time and endangered lives before he actually stopped.
Making assumptions based on what? Your boys in blue did a bad thing and will pay.
I implore every federal and state inmate to start sharpening any object you can. Make these thugs pay with their lives, and may prison justice come swiftly and without mercy.

They always quick to discipline blacks. Had it been white police we'd have to wait for action til the trial.
When 5 cops can't contain and cuff one man, it is time to get 5 new cops to replace them.
