      Having retired from law enforcement i am sickened by this brutal treatment of Mr. Nichols with the 5 police officers. Not all police lie, but this was clearly murder and I hope the courts find these five lowlifes guilty for murder, in my eyes it should be 1st degree murder not 2nd degree!!! I am a white guy as well and think this was completely a criminal act against Mr. Nichols. Time for some serious training to go on. If Mr. Nichols ran from police, it does NOT justify beating him to death. They could have had a couple of car waiting at his home if they needed to arrest him so bad. What were the charges against Mr. Nichols going to be??? They certainly did not warrant death!!! This tarnishes the badge for those of us that have and are doing the job we were hired for, to protect and serve!

    • @lts5674
      @lts5674 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Cherrell as a US citizen I don't even know everything about the bail process so maybe someone else can also pitch in here. I know the full amount of the bail is not always required up front, in some cases a defendant can post a percentage of the full amount l, usually 10%-15%. Some defendents receive help from family who will pull their resources to put down the 10-15%. A family member may even secure a personal loan or pledge other high value assets like owned property or a car etc.. I believe if the defendent goes to trial and is found not guilty or if charges are dropped, the funds or assets are released back to the defendant. Probably minus any legal fees they'd have to pay anyway. If they're convicted, whoever signed the bail contract with or for the defendant will be liable to pay the full balance of the bail amount owed.
      Again, I'm not a legal expert and I live in Arizona, so state DOJ may have some variance.

    • @lts5674
      @lts5674 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, these officers probably engaged in other elicit activities, which created a side stream of income for them. Such as the illegal seizure of people's property or theft, if you will. We have a problem with that here. And if you're ever interested, you can find some videos of officers stealing from citizens. The one that sticks out in my mind is a US army vet who was traveling with a large amount of cash he withdrew to make a purchase. Might have been about $100K. Anyway, there's no law against driving with a large quantity of money, but the cops seized it despite his protest and explanation why he had it and made him jump through all sorts if red tape to get it back. It included some other family's who'd been robbed by our officer, and after years of fighting the departments, they either gave up or were still trying to get their money back. The officers can usually get away with it, if they steal from known offenders like drug dealers and poor people, because they're less likely to file a claim or suit against the offers to retrieve their stolen goods.
      The officers also probably work a lot of overtime, or at least record that they do and with the shortage of officers, noone probably bats an eye.
      So, working overtime to rob us can be quite lucrative. Apparently, I've been doing life all wrong.

      @@rickmerritt128 Truth is the truth. Far too many police officers assault, beat, kill, people half the time over nothing, but a simple traffic stop, or maybe something as small as shoplifting. There's plenty of videos out to support that. I'll never forget one where, a cop cold bloodedly shoots a man dead, over some stolen chicken. Over some stolen food, the cop executes him right then and there. Seriously? But since the man was Black there's no public outcry, except by his friends, family, and other fellow blacks. I wonder what ever happened to that cop? Probably nothing, and still working, and maybe even bragging about it towards those he pulls over. This is the American police system, like it or not. And what will be done about it. Nothing. Not a damn thing. And this country has the nerve to criticize other country's like Russia, China, North Korea, when it's no better. That's a fact. That's why they tell these US officials, "you have a lot of nerve, when it comes to human rights abuse, when It's rampant in your very own police departments all throughout the country."
      Sure we the public, need the police, but what we don't need is a bunch of criminals, murders, rapist, racist, immature thugs. My first recollection of cops was a 4 year old beating my father, who had came to visit me, and my sister. These thugs had no problem beating my father, and doing it right in front of me, and my sister, who was 5. This is who many are, in my opinion, then, and today. But it is what it is. Just because i feel that way about doesn't mean one thing. They were that way, before i was on the scene, and they will be that way when i'm gone, with zero change, because it's allowed, and wanted.

    Honestly I think this was something personal or taking matters into their own hands about something they think he might have done. To beat a man to death and they giving dap to each other after...that tells me this was planned and thought out.

      @@kimwhite6784 I dont believe that. Its rare people do a random act of this type of violence...especially black people without a direct purpose. And for them to beat him down, continue to beat down on him, dont even try to render aid, and basically congratulate each other for it.
      All of this knowing cameras are rolling & risking their career....You would think he raped one of their daughters or something.
      Either way, its truly disturbing & I hope they are convicted on all charges & sentenced to the highest extent of the law.

      @@TriniCanoAdventures I mean, it wasn't random, in that, it was the police.
      The police departments are becoming known for brutality, unwarranted and the MPD in particular has a bad reputation. One of the officers has already been reported to have joined in gang violence as a prison security guard, beating a man unconscious and there have been at least a few other reports. I read that previously MPD had this same unit under a different name and it was also disbanded because of complaints. It will all come out in time, hopefully.
      However, you could be right. It could be personal in this case. We can't completely rule that out, either. But the fact of the matter is, it seems like this was routine work for the SCORPIAN.

      Your right. George Floyd died from mainly preexisting condition which led him to have a cardiac arrest. All the evidence pointed to that outcome as to his cause of death. It wasn't the restraint necessarily but his high state of mind and him fighting against the restraint. He was just so high and had serious medical conditions as well. The breathing thing he was making that up so they would get off of him. Just like he did with the car thing.
