Candy4Bullets He is currently in Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, which opened a few months ago. It's a great show, and I'm sure he's great.
As a Proud Mom of two sons who served in Iraq and Afganistan...this seems a fitting tribute to our war sacrifices...I took them both to see Les Miz when they were young and Josh does the MOST amazing version of this song! Thx, Josh..and loved the song u wrote, "The War at Home"...Hope u will one day play Valjean!!!!
I haven't had a personal experience happen to me to make this song many times more powerful, but the story is much different for me for War at Home. I love the song so much. . .
when you hear different people sing with the same song, with their different specialties of talent (singer, film actor, Theatre/ musical actor) you will realize how they also adopt to their own line of artistic performance and all of them have their own versions. I like Josh Groban and his version is more gracious and gentle on the emotions. In another hand, Eddie was really good at acting and his voice was great but also realistic enough for us to see the character. Sometimes we battle between what we will highlight, the music? the character? the story? Either way, all must be from the heart. Art is freeing, and so artists should feel free to make their choices. People nowadays compare too much. I understand that we have our favourites, but bickering about who is better to the point of not even knowing why or how they managed to sing the song is a bit, well, egoistic and selfish. we lose what really matters, that is, the moral and the heart of this song. The grief, the agony, the guilt of this song. The pain that someone dealt with when they are telling a story they went through, but not their loved ones or their friends. The emptiness you feel when you are all alone now. The void you will never again fill for they are gone... The melancholy of missing someone you will never be able to be with again and the question of why? what for? In the core of every art piece, there is always a center of purpose. So please, respect these different story tellers.
Totally agree with you. We do all have our favourites. Josh puts so much emotion into this version but, yes I do respect other artists that recorded this song cause after all we/they all have there own voices. Xx
So well said. Art should be appreciated for the emotions and ideas it evokes. It should unite us. Yet five years on, people seem even more intolerant of differing opinions and perspectives. I hope time has been kind to you, clover. And I wish you a future of Beauty, Music, and wonderful discoveries. 🌠🌱🌄
The gramps on my dad's side died. So he wouldn't be here fer my second niece's birth. She'll never know her great-grandpa. I know what it's like, losin' somebody I loved.
He needs to be on Broadway, he has proven he. has the voice and. the love of the art. This brings chills to me as his performance did. Good job keep up the excellent job. I love listening to you.
I'm really loving this arrangement! The way it sounds at the beginning reminds me very much of a hauntingly melancholic jazz song. It ends up blending so well into the big orchestral sound. And then at the end, back to the same theme of the sparse instrumentation with just the strings and the piano playing the clashing jazz chords. Beautifully done. I MUST know who arranged this!
What a perfect song for the times we are going through! May the world HEAL, FIND PEACE,JOY & LOVE 2021 Will get better. For all the love ones lost we lift our prayers to the Heavens
Magnificent performance Mister Groban! Like Always... My daugther Carol dance, solo, this Amazing music, she is a Ballerina, 15 years old. And my Dream is see her dancing and you singing... Far way dream...... Who knows....?

Empty Chairs at Empty Tables Eddie Redmayne There's a grief that can't be spoken, There's a pain goes on and on. Empty chairs at empty tables, Now my friends are dead and gone. Here they talked of revolution, Here it was they lit the flame, Here they sang about tomorrow and tomorrow never came. From the table in the corner, They could see a world reborn, And they rose with voices ringing, And I can hear them now The very words that they have sung Became their last communion On this lonely barricade, at dawn. Oh my friends, my friends don't ask me What your sacrifice was for Empty chairs at empty tables Where my friend will sing no more.
TWO MONTHS LATER & WE ARE STILL FIGHTING FOR OUR VERY LIVES! LISTEN TO THE WORDS TO THIS SONG< LET THEM PENERTRATE YOUR SOUL! SO MUCH STRIFE IN OUR WORLD< PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR WORLD! SHARE LOVE & COMPASSION WHERE YOU CAN! OUR WORLD DEPENDS ON IT!
Heard about "Les Miserables" for a while and never heard any of the musical pieces. Then I heard this.... Now more than ever I want to read it/watch early adaptations.
+CrimsonEbonyTears I was like that CrimsonEbonyTears - until I heard some of the music - it is haunting. If you can't see a live performance, watch the film - it's amazing.
If you haven't already seen it, I really recommend seeing a live performance. I watched it in London, and I can honestly say it's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I would watch it 100 times over if I could!
Jess, Agreed. I just saw it at the Imperial Theater in NYC the day before the run ended. John Owen Jones as Valjean! Amazing. And, I LOVE LOVE Josh Groban, and his version of Bring Him Home is AMAZING, because that is a more mature song and is more polished, but for me this version of Empty Tables is a little too perfect--I like Marius a little more raw and broken in this song, and younger sounding. After all, he's "only a boy."
Mmmm, I never thought of it that way! I listened again and I must agree, that it is rather polished. The song sounds all the more powerful when it's sung with raw emotion! I guess I'll judge when I go see the show again next year! Becky Wilson-Shore
Eddie did do a great job but if you have ever seen this show on stage, every single actor has blown him out of the room. I have seen Les Mis roughly 20 times, including on Broadway and sadly, he didn't come close to that level.
IDC about the rest of the movie.... Eddie's sing-acting in this song is incredibly moving. Musically, others have done better. But the acting part... he is broken and shocked and grief-stricken. It blew me away. Left me in tears in a way no other version had. I MEAN I DIED.
I have seen the stage play and I enjoyed it, but IMO the movie brings the whole thing to life. Granted, I did not enjoy Russell Crowe, but it moved me and some of the performances were amazing.
Josh Groban does a nice job at this song with a different arrangement than the standard one. Josh should be in a musical on stage on Broadway or in West End. He has such a talent, that shouldn't be wasted just in doing concerts and recording CD's. He needs to be on stage in musicals having sung and acted in a show that is forever known. He needs to be the one that makes the song popular, not singing songs that others have made it known before him.
This musical arrangement is perfect to this music because there are not theater interpretation of the character. And Josh can make a impossible interpretation giving high notes. Brilliant. A depressed sick person generaly doesnt sing and there are not high extended notes.
Makes me remember the morning after I learned my friend and her boyfriend died in a car accident in high school, their empty chairs vacant in class and in band
"There is a grief that can't be spoken." Well, Josh does not speak, he sings. 😉 (Very good by the way. He sounds as haunted as if he'd be the character himself)
Is that a “bandoneón”, from tango that opens and close the piece? I would make sense, since tango is very related to Paris. Love the arrangement by the way, and Josh... excellent as always ❤️
This is the Musical I like more in absolute... I think than you MUST try to make a Broadway musical, you should be the best interpreter and I will be in Pole position for listening you... You might be a perfect Marius!
È magnifico! Sono assolutamente d'accordo con te...è passato un anno ma non credo che tu abbia cambiato idea e senz'altro saprai che Josh sta per fare il suo debutto a Broadway..!! Buona notte ciao 💖
He was in a show called Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812! That’s where I first heard of him, and he does a great job. Unfortunately, the show did close down just over a year ago :(
Josh's version is better than most, but I think not as good as 12yr old Cormac Thompson. His version is haunting and beautiful, and his voice is wonderful. Give it a try.
One of the greatest songs i have ever listened to. It reminds me about the first phase of what so-called the Arab Spring, especially Syria. It offers a great message for those who wish to change the world: what your sacrifice was for, empty chairs at empty tables! please i have no ample experience with western music, is there another singer like Josh Groban? what is the genre of this song?
Everything this man sings has such feeling n emotion ,David foster said years ago he stands alone know one is in his lane..... n that is The Truth!!!!!!
Groban needs to have a part in a Broadway show. Absolutely beautiful.
+Candy4Bullets He does a huge concert throughout the world every year. I have 3 of the DVD's and they are great!
Candy4Bullets He is currently in Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, which opened a few months ago. It's a great show, and I'm sure he's great.
(I've seen a bootleg, he's phenomenal.)
I saw the Great Comet last night and he was a total show stopper. Everyone loved him
Chelsea Tran I so want to see him in that😍 I just haven't been to, which is awful😢
As a Proud Mom of two sons who served in Iraq and Afganistan...this seems a fitting tribute to our war sacrifices...I took them both to see Les Miz when they were young and Josh does the MOST amazing version of this song! Thx, Josh..and loved the song u wrote, "The War at Home"...Hope u will one day play Valjean!!!!
finaly someone who understands what this is about
+Jacob B all the comments like yours are about a relationship and the loss of a boyfriend
I haven't had a personal experience happen to me to make this song many times more powerful, but the story is much different for me for War at Home. I love the song so much. . .
@@jacobb5484Definitely not about war criminals.
Can't stop crying. This is so appropriate during uncertain times and facing the reality of the COVID-19 crisis.
Beautiful. At one point his voice reminded me of Michael Ball. Another talented man. Josh has a haunting lilt that I can't get over.
I'm anxiously waiting for "If I can't love her" JOSH GROBAN IS BAE

This is one of my favorite Josh songs, his voice gives me goose bumps and brings me to tears every time!!!!!
MUITO LINDA ESSA MÚSICA PARABÉNS PELA EMOÇÃO QUE VOCÊ CAUSA NAS SUAS FÃS
Beautiful rendition by Josh groan. His voice is pure gold.
I always remember sitting at the breakfast table the morning after my grandfather died, staring at the empty chair beside me.
PraiseDivineMercy may he Rest In Peace ❤️
PraiseDivineMercy my mom passed three months ago and the forst day I sat snd waiyed praying she come back in the door
The gramps on my dad's side died. So he wouldn't be here fer my second niece's birth. She'll never know her great-grandpa. I know what it's like, losin' somebody I loved.
Your voice is wonderful! You added so much feeling and emotion into the song! You didn't over do it or not do enough, you did it perfectly!!!
This is such a gorgeous version of this song. His voice is BEAUTIFUL! Very talented!
He needs to be on Broadway, he has proven he. has the voice and. the love of the art. This brings chills to me as his performance did. Good job keep up the excellent job. I love listening to you.
Before, I would've said that only Michael Ball would ever be the Marius for me. Sigh, and now I hear this. Adore this version!
Tego chce się słuchać,wciąż i wciąż.Kocham cudowny głos Grobana
A magnificent voice on a wonderful song. Very emotional just perfection.
What a superb voice. So powerful, yet so soothing.
No singer or earth could have rendered this song better. Josh Groban is simply the best there is.
I'm really loving this arrangement! The way it sounds at the beginning reminds me very much of a hauntingly melancholic jazz song. It ends up blending so well into the big orchestral sound. such a huge voice i love it !

I know, right!
Marnell Sample @sampling @medianmode @averagemedianmode
I would do just about anything for just the instrumental part of this. I love it so much.
For me the best version of this song ! His voice sounds like dark velvet in the deeper tones ! 👍❤️
Love, love, love Josh’s voice! Recently saw him in concert and he did not disappoint.
Omg I love this arrangement and Josh's voice on this amazing song!!! Can't believe I'm just hearing it!!!
What a perfect song for the times we are going through! May the world HEAL, FIND PEACE,JOY & LOVE 2021 Will get better. For all the love ones lost we lift our prayers to the Heavens
With Josh Groban's voice it would be nice to see him in a musical in a movie.
Josh Groban’s voice is like pure silk.
A voice that caresses our very souls

Finally!! I've been dying to hear this, absolutely love it!
The intro makes me picture a French cafe with a gloomy, possibly rainy day outside it. I love it.

This is the ultimate song for 2020.

Empty Chairs at Empty Tables
Eddie Redmayne
There's a grief that can't be spoken,
There's a pain goes on and on.
Empty chairs at empty tables,
Now my friends are dead and gone.
Here they talked of revolution,
Here it was they lit the flame,
Here they sang about tomorrow and tomorrow never came.
From the table in the corner,
They could see a world reborn,
And they rose with voices ringing,
And I can hear them now
The very words that they have sung
Became their last communion
On this lonely barricade, at dawn.
Oh my friends, my friends forgive me
That I live and you are gone
There's a grief that can't be spoken,
And there's a pain goes on and on
Phantom faces at the window,
Phantom shadows on the floor,
Empty chairs at empty tables where my friends will meet no more.
Oh my friends, my friends don't ask me
What your sacrifice was for
Empty chairs at empty tables
Where my friend will sing no more.
EU SINTO UMA COISA SEI LÁ O QUE É. ARREPIOS SEI LÁ
This can stand head to head with Michael Ball version! Bravo Josh!
Ray Leonard Judijanto Yeah the whole time I was listening I thought to myself how similar Josh's version was to that of Ball.
Poți cânta orice! Ai cu ce! Voce, talent imens!
This song always gives me chills (in a good way), and your arrangement with your voice brought me to tears as well. Loved it so much!
Wonderful, music is best for Josh Groban is around :)

man the piano voicings and the reharm just make this song beautiful
So amazing ❤️🎶🎶 the most beautiful performance this song
Children will listen,. Nice song,. Great voice
Remember the tables and chairs will be filled. ...when friends become responsible for mankind....
This is just lovely - but Eddie Redmayne in the film is awesome, with the song in context. Completely different of course, but both spine tingling.
Eddie did do a great job but if you have ever seen this show on stage, every single actor has blown him out of the room. I have seen Les Mis roughly 20 times, including on Broadway and sadly, he didn't come close to that level.
You're entitled to your opinion, but you're wrong. :-)

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but I'm not getting into an argument with you about it. My opinion is the movie's great.
I have seen the stage play and I enjoyed it, but IMO the movie brings the whole thing to life. Granted, I did not enjoy Russell Crowe, but it moved me and some of the performances were amazing.

"There is a grief that can't be spoken."
Well, Josh does not speak, he sings. 😉 (Very good by the way. He sounds as haunted as if he'd be the character himself)
Perfect !!
Empty Chairs at Empty Tables written by Herbert Kretzmer, Alain Boublil, Claude-Michel Schönberg
What's real anymore? Honestly...
I'm just going to leave this on replay for the next 3 days.
Exclamation same 😂
Bravo!
amazing
Hermoso!!
I'm not quite sure why, but for some reason, the arrangement reminds me of the Final Fantasy VII soundtrack ~ o.O?
Woow..👏👏👏🔥...2020..
beutiful

The first few notes are extremely reminiscent of the intro to "Transformation" from Jekyll and Hyde
This is probably my favorite cover, Josh Groban is my role model when it comes to singing.
Many kisses Baby!!!!❤❤
