yes!!!!!!! honestly, both draculaura and robbecca could have such interesting lines exploring their victorian roots... the only dolls (in my vision :p) to explore something is the 2016 draculaura sdcc, but the new vampire heart is pretty dope though

It would’ve been so absolutely cool if the freaky fusion line combined characters to make other monsters. Just imagine the Cleo/Toralei doll being a sphinx or the Lagoona/Jenifire doll being a leviathan. Like. It’s feel like this idea is right there and yet…

Ikr? I love the concept of Fusion, and I wish they did more with it. I think of how different character designs would interact with each other. What new powers would the characters get? Would the characters miss being fused? That concept would be so fun if it were done right

I actually really like G3 Cleo, but that bandage-like sculpt on her leg being flesh colored and not cloth colored just makes me feel something unpleasant when I see it.
The sculpted details in general just bug me, especially as someone who likes watching doll customizations and the limitations in creativity the sculpting enforces. Still, G3 is really great imo
Yeah, I painted mine bc I liked that the detail was there but also felt it shouldn't just be her skin color. So mine's bandages are white with a little gold shimmer ^^

If I could give some honest criticism to the G3 sleepover line, I'd say that they look a bit too "glam" and dramatic for a sleepover.
In G1's Dead Tired, their makeup, outfits and hair was a lot more toned down and looked more like they were having a pajama party. In G3, it looks more like they're about to record a music video where the theme is 'sleepover'
If they wanted to do a glam sleepover they should have leaned into it more. Either make them super snuggly and so comfy it's almost silly, or make them over the top glamorous like old Hollywood ladies in peignoirs at a vanity. Don't go halfsies.

As someone who’s first mh doll was ghouls alive clawdeen, I can definitively see that it was made for kids as myself and the majority of friends and others i knew who owned the dolls were small children. I still have my clawdeen and yeah, as you can probably guess, she’s a mess. Her clothes are falling apart, she’s got no arms, her hair is mostly matted, she’s got sharpie drawings on her, and her mechanism died long ago. Nonetheless, I still love and appreciate her for opening my eyes to monster high and making me fall in love with it. Also I will not stand for freaky fusion slander 😤😤😤 (/lh)
I was honestly a little surprised when he said that a lot of Ghouls Alive dolls end up in really bad shape because despite all of mine and my sisters’s rough play, our Spectra is still in really good shape. Her hair is fine, we have all her limbs, clothes shoes and belt are all still good, and the only thing wrong with her is that the batteries are long dead.
I bet she's doing well in barbie land or the monster high version.
See my problem with Neon Frights is that ALL of my friends and I have quality control issues, and you can’t just look at the doll to tell that. We’re missing parts / misprints / etc and it just feels like Mattel is using skulltimate secrets to get away with bad QC since you can’t see the doll you’re getting.
My neon frights Twyla has a problem in her left elbow- it's under constant stress as a result of that problem. Definitely a quality control problem with the line.
ok we talked about freaky fusion but what about the save frankie line??? i’m not sure if that counts as budget but LORD HAVE MERCY THOSE WERE SO UGLY I CANNOT FATHOM??? not even actual fashions but graphic tees with highlighter colors and awful fonts??? personal bonus points bc i really didn’t want frankie to be saved. AND THOSE OUTFITS WERENT EVEN IN THE MOVIE

Personally I think the worst of g1 really was the save Frankie dolls. They’re so forgettable most people don’t even remember them at all. I’ve seen people actually think they’re edits or like we’re unreleased levels of forgotten. But feariously they had these ugly outfits not in any of the media at all with strange signs and graphic t shirts plus just what felt like 3 random characters, 2 of which were already part of the actual fusion dolls which is really weird to see characters *technically* having 2 dolls within the same line. I’m pretty sure this is the only time that has happened in monster high history

When I was 9 or so, I desperately wanted the Jinafire Long doll for so long and my mom finally took me to our Toys R Us like an hour away to get one. There was only one on the shelf left, and this lady who had like 7 other dolls in her cart took it before I could grab it. My mom tried to explain to her that I've always wanted that particular doll and this was the only time I could get it, but she straight up refused to let me have that one.
Anyways my mom said I could get a different doll and somehow I ended up with Ghouls Alive Frankie. I hated it.
I feel like Draculaura really dragged down the Neon Frights with her damn light purple lipstick (and maybe the yellow accents too) lol. I really love Twyla and Ghoulia there, Frankie and Torelei too.

unpopular opinion but i *love* the Freaky Fusion base dolls - Cleolei and Clawvenus especially are so cute to me when restyled (love the dolls but the clothes aren't even worth discussing lol) and i love Dracubecca's little details like the heart-shaped screws. the new girls def have stronger/more memorable designs but the fusions are cute too! they just need better fits lol
I can get a Clwvenus forll for a few bucks but her haircut man, it's irredeemable. I love her faceip though

It’s so annoying how everyone hates it i can say clawvenus and lagoonafire are weird but cleolei and dracubecca are so gorgeous like what are we doing

It makes me sad too as I actually really liked all of them. They were so unique to me as a kid and even now.
The issue with Neon Frights imo is the atrocious quality/QC. I was excited for them until they came in. I bought 2 of each initially as I collect in and out of box, I had just gotten paid, and I like to increase my chances of getting a good one first go around. Every single one had missing, blotched, or error paint (face and body), inconsistent screenings (makeup/eye placements), warped plastic accessories from packaging (think actual slashes in the cornerstone belt pieces from the plastic tie on the waist), horrendous hair (Fearidescent poly was not good but mostly felt soft and manageable out of packaging, but Neon Frights poly is scratchy and hidden bald spots/bad haircuts are common), and more. I returned and replaced that batch and had the same issue with the replacements, but I opened a few with less glaring problems. They also look underwhelming in person and are absolutely the weakest link in the Skulltimate line and a serious contender for weakest link overall right now. It manages to carry on the worst issues from previous Skulltimate series while also having even worse QC.
Poor quality control is the reason why I afraid to buy dolls.

Im one of those people who will spend 15 minutes looking at all the dolls at different angles to get the one with the screening I like most and feel a connection with.

My poor Twyla neon frights has a bald spot by her bangs. Yes I could just put the hoodie over it but I don't like the hood up. Granted her face screening is mint and i decided just to keep her. I'm in the same boat I buy two of each for one in and one out. I wanna get torelei next but I'm kinda scared
Literally I got Ghoulia, Twyla and Torelai Neon Frights and they were awful!! I only kept Torelai because she was the least ruined out of all of them
this was SO fun to participate in!! i'm not shocked my g1 and g3 answers weren't mentioned, as I ONLY listed lines that I didn't like a *single* doll from (the og g3 budget and full releases, art class) but it's good to see that the hate for the emoji dolls still stands strong. stay shady, my lovely little doll friends. stay shady.
I loved the Cleo/Torelai fusion she reminded me of an Egyptian cat goddess

Hair is pretty much beyond saving, no idea where her jewelry is, cracked tail, missing hands and hand bracelet things, and shoulder thing in the wrong place. Good god did we mess her up lol
I was suprised to see people didn't like the Great Scarrier Reef line. Clawdeen was a miss for me but I'm such a goon for mermaid anything. I was so in love with the unusual mermaid flavors. 😂
I love the idea but I wish they gave them super long hair. I love mermaids and my favourite mermaid dolls are mermaze Mermaidz. Especially winter waves. Nora has a gothic vibe
i like how the top two hated lines from gen 1 was two of the lines that changed clawdeen's skin clolour for no reason, like it would have been fine if the others changed too but its only her.
Her skin also changed for the Freak du Chic line to a grey skin color, but for that one, it makes sinces. Grey wolfs exist.
Oh, and also: Clawdeen HAD a reason why her skin changed color for the Freaky Fusion line. She got fused with Venus, who is green.

in retrospect I can really appreciate g2 Frankie for keeping that deep, gothic red lipstick. The one thing that I think g2 has over g3
that was more candy red, either way g1 Frankie’s lipstick is not goth at all, those shades are everywhere, the thing that made her more alternative was the combo of everything in her design.
That was a very bright red, not really gothy like the dark/wine one from G1 imo.
considering what g3 has done with her color pallette it makes sense that they don't have red lipstick anymore. when she had green skin, the red was a contrasting color, making it really pop, but now that they're blue, if they had red lipstick it wouldn't hit the same way. frankie's color pallete now is primarily blue and pink, though sometimes it is altered depending on the line. red wouldn't suit their color pallete very well. i do like her original wine red lipstick, but it makes sense to ditch it with their new color pallete

I thought those dolls were great, especially with the phosphorescent elements they all had. I guess I have a tendency to be more excited by cool molds with ok clothes than impeccably designed clothing & a boring mold.
I also didn’t hate the freaky fusion line. Like everyone else said, the new characters were definitely better than the main girls, but I still found the main girls pretty appealing. Except Ceolei.
i almost fully disagree with the top 2 for g1 omg... i adore the great scarrier reef moulds even if the fashions are somewhat lacklustre but i think its one of the most creative mermaid doll lines ive seen and freaky fusion genuinely encapsulates everything i love about monster high conceptually like its the epitome of camp and absurdity. i had no clue they were so universally hated 😭
Yeah no I love freaky fusion so much. I get that part of that is my nostalgia from childhood and I can totally see why fashion doll collectors would have issues with them but they are so unabashedly wild and weird and fun?? Lagoonafire was one of my favorite dolls ever when I was younger and looking back my taste was still immaculate. She is so cool.
I think my biggest beef with freaky fusion is that the dolls really only look like the main character part of the fusion. I’d believe you if you told me that was lagoona in a stereotypical dragon costume or that’s Cleo as a cat. They chose some really interesting side characters and just wasted them like Clawdeen Venus fusion sounds SO COOL on paper.
G3 - I was one of the people who voted for Neon Frights and I ended up voting for it mostly because there wasn't a doll in it I really liked or wanted. I quite frankly forgot about the fearleader dolls but I at least wouldn't have minded getting Deuce or Frankie? G3 doesn't have any particularly heinous doll lines to me but there are some individual dolls I think are completely unacceptable so it made it hard to decide.
G2 - I voted for the Ballerina line. To me it felt so depersonalized for the characters and felt inexplicably barbie and not at all MH. Esp compared to the dance line in G1.
G1 - I personally didn't like Nefera or Cleo's in execution. Catty's gala look is amazing and that's the only one I really enjoy. I remember the dolls having a ton of quality issues. I'm actually surprised folks agreed 😂 I thought I had a controversial opinion for the line.
The fearleading dolls are actually some of my favorite, redressed. Drac's ponytail is super cute and the bow is adorable. Frankie had the first iteration of their half shaved head. My Deuce was a misprint and came without the stupid football paint. Granted, if you bought them full price, no they weren't worth it. I got mine for $30.
I mostly like the Boo York dolls because I still have my Boo York Draculaura and her doll has one of my favorite pairs of doll shoes I’ve ever owned
I'm shocked people didn't like Great Scarier Reef. I had no idea those were disliked. Those are some of my favorite Monster High dolls.
G3 Cleo's main problem is that she looks like Nefera.

Ghouls Alive is so interesting as a concept... but seeing the result makes me shudder. I tried using a magic eraser to get something off a Frankie and it just permanently turned her forehead this hideous shade of gray. I wanna know what caused that because it was only water lol

I'm not sure if this is correct for all magic erasers, but I remember reading somewhere that they have microscopic bits of glass in them, so maybe it scratched something off or did something to the plastic?

As far as I remember their head is molded in slightly transparent gray plastic and painted over with green. Meaning you can remove ALL the paint from the face and the result will look horrifying 😅 speaking from experience

Part of what I don’t like about the freaky fusion dolls is that they just look like the main ghouls still. I know they probably had to do that to keep them recognize able but makes it feel less cool and like they didn’t commit all the way

I'm tracking with all of the G3 ones except for Creepover. I have the Creepover Draculaura and I think she's amazing. I would have the Clawdeen too, but I can't be seen to support the absolute tragedy that is the hard plastic pompoms lmao. You made whole ass fluffy robes and you really can't make a simple pompom, Mattel?

Any doll with poly hair is immediately not on the table for purchase for me. Pretty much all of skulltimate secrets dolls have horrific poly dumpster fires on their hair and for that I think it’s easily the worst thing for g3. Such a shame bc the designs slap.

I honestly can't decide between Great Scarier Reef and Freaky Fusion. Both of them have the same issue of awkward designs and bad color pallets but also have the positive of having interesting concepts and some good execution depending on the doll.
Not surprised that a lot of the newer MH G3 dolls are so divisive. Folks haven't even gotten them in their hands yet, so stock photos and other photos are their evidence.

My personal worst line has to be the core G2 dolls. These are supposed to be the main dolls! The most exciting and the designs people remember when they think of that character! Not to mention the drastic expectation fall, and the marketing proudly showing "the amazing new faces!" that were worse and pretty much not liked by anyone.
The funny thing about Ghouls Alive is how some are really rough looking, and then you have Robecca, who looks extremely cool with an exposed ribcage and glowing heart.
I meant to do the survey, because I felt like everyone was going to make decisions on 'what line do I find aesthetically unappealing' and not actually what is more objectively 'worse'. But wow you got so many responses!
But, like, as far as a concept goes, I think Freaky Fusion is actually good. It's risky, it's inspired, it has a full story behind it that's reflected in the different sublines. People are way too hard on it just because aesthetics. I don't love the dolls personally outside Dracubecca, but, that's not going to be a reason for me to call it 'worst' Also people call things clashing all the time who seem to know nothing about color theory and complimentary colors, and that annoys me. Why can't things be a little fun and silly sometimes too?
Compare this to the G2 emoji line - which in itself is a BAD CONCEPT, I hate all those marketers attempts to do emojis as a theme because they thought that's what children were into. And then on the other hand, Electrified seems way more inspired initially even if the executions are not to my personal tastes.
Overall though I also feel like my feelings are not that strong because I can't be hard on something that's obviously designed with kids in mind. I think that's where Ghouls Alive falls, and I can't be mean about it (poor Clawdeen though). Especially budget lines here too. Like I dislike G2 overall because they seemed to have zero budget all the time, but if I think about it a little longer, I am actually indifferent. I have moved forward in my life. I have more negative feelings about some of the last G1 lines (like Great Scarier) because it felt like they were running out of momentum and I could see the line dying. And with G3 I just have little personal attachment to anything to have many negative feelings.
As for Halloween, I made a bedsheet ghost with pastel pink accessories.
My friends and I have been joking I'm going as Scaris Hilton.
20:47 let me tell you, I’m a collector and even my Ghouls Alive Frankie is a little rough looking. If I were to pull her off my shelf right now the haIR OH GOD THE HAIR. Even though the hair style itself is super simple, it’s hard to maintain due to how they had to construct her head. I’ve spent many hours re-doing her hair, but it just never stays.
ok good to know bc mine is still in-box and I was considering trying to take her out to change the batteries that died. I can't lie, I love the "gimmick" aspect of her and I want to be able to make her spark again ^.^ Since her hair is fine in the box, I might see if I can access her battery pack without removing her/her hair from the package backing and slide her back into the box. The battery is on the thigh for my (unboxed) Spectra so maybeeeee. My Spectra does have a cowlick in the back xD

Totally agree with Scarrier Reef and Freaky Fusion though, I really lost interest when those dolls just would not get off the shelves and then completely missed g2 altogether. Truly hideous stuff! Great video!
When I was kid I adored freaky fusion. Movie and dolls it was for kids. Gothic asthetic didnt live long as people think. Like 2010ss yes but 2012 literally pop of color and all this bright things not just for edgy but for all kids
I do honestly like Lagoonafire. Maybe because I love lagoona, it's partially the hair, but I do. Otherwise, the FF dolls do nothing for me, but I was also not the right age when they came out to experience them as a kid.
G2 was such a dark time. I remember finding out and being heartbroken. I’d talk about it with my best friend who I used to play dolls with. We were shocked about the faces, the ugly outfits, and the dolls with no articulation!! Like everything that made MH awesome was stripped away.
So glad they’re trying again and releasing new dolls with the G1 style. I love it so much. I started collecting again a year ago and I love seeing them come into my collection.

Personally I didn't mind Gen 2's little siblings and I bought Draculaura and Clawdeen's siblings because I loved how they were in the movies/web series (Fangelica was actually very sweet and Clawdeeen's semi-feral little brothers made me laugh). But I'm also among the small majority who enjoyed parts of Gen 2 anyway. I understand why not everyone likes Gen 2, but I found a few things about it that I liked. Gen 1 is still the best though.
there was definitely a lot to dislike in g2, especially compared to the other two, but the dolls are definitely a low point for me. i LOVE the movies though, theyre very cute and the animation style is adorable. i never saw the webshow though!
I usually love when characters have siblings. IDK, it's just a shtick that gets me to collect. But I also think that all the main ghouls suddenly having little siblings is weird, especially since characters like Cleo had a sibling already? I think I liked Lagoona's younger siblings and I thought it was cute how Frankie build her sibling.
I also really liked Fangelica in the webisodes, she was the only reason I watched them. I wish her doll looked more like her animated counterpart, the colors look way better.

I actually liked the fusion sculpts and I'm currently seeking them... Buuuut that's for customizing. 😅 As actual dolls to collect I'm not so interested, but for creating custom characters I like them. Especially Dracubecca, but that's because Robecca Steam was my favorite character.
Learning that freaky fusion was this disliked is so odd to me, because I remember this being one of my favorite movies and doll lines as a child.
However I do see what you mean with your critisms against it and looking at it now I wouldn't place it as high on my list anymore either. Still loving the hybrid girls and Dracubecca.
Side note: I'm going as Emily from Corpse Bride for Halloween and I think it's high time, they release an Emily Doll!🤩

tbh I like the wolf siblings specifically because werewolves having a big famiy just makes sense. Also I think they're all pretty cute. The electrified dolls though; like, I have Silvi and I would LOVE her if her hair didn't feel like touching a bathroom scrub pad. I think if they brought her back in G3 with the same crimped hair it would turn out much better given how soft the Skulltimate Secrets wave1 Clawdeen's hair is by comparison.
Kala was one of my first MH dolls (after Skelita). As someone who missed G1 and G2 entirely I just saw a 4 armed purple squid mermaid and that's all I needed. She's still one of my favorites.
Creepover is actually one of my fave lines! It gave us Twyla, an actual split dye drac, cute accessories, and my favorite Frankie face of g3! I understand sleepover lines are a little boring but I really like this one.
i have complicated feelings about Skulltimate Secrets after the first one. i personally think they were almost onto something with Fearidescent, Frankie looks great and tbh i love the cooler palette that Lagoona has even more than her base g3 colors. but it feels like...like the fast fashion of doll lines, and even more so with the neon ones. i kinda wish they'd sell character clothes packs instead, 'cause i can't always justify buying a whole new doll, plus the entire locker?
also, i haven't had anywhere to do for halloween in long time, so my costume has been Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service for years because its comfy and simple. Considering Fionna from Adventure Time this year though, i kept my old version of the costume and still fit in it!

I love Neon Frights. It gives rave/party aesthetic while also comfy cozy. Two things I love and want in my room (I want a rave-themed room but with chill vibes). Plus, I LOVE glow in the dark stuff.
While Im disappointed by some aspects of the dolls and their items. I want the whole set because its so far up my alley.
Edit: I have a Ghouls Alive Spectra. Shes actually in pretty good condition for me being 7-9 when getting her. Although, I was also scared of running my dolls

I would have wanted a list of the most popular. Recently I bought Draculaura from Fearidescent wave 2 because I liked her clear pink/black hair, but the skirt, looks good, but feels cheap.
i really want Dracs earmuffs but don't know if i should buy the doll for that. Poly hair bangs are so bad
it makes me sad the general consensus that Ghoul Spirit and Neon Frights are kind of the unquestioned worst lines of g3 because theyre the only 2 lines to have a Frankie with a side shave :(
Even the side shave sucks though, it's just a hunk of plastic. It's not flocked at all :(

Gen 2 launch felt like when I found out Gaga's Joanne album was actually a country album😱 but in hind sight I can appreciate it for what it is lol
I'm not surprised that Fraky Fusions was devisive but, for the core dolls, Dracubecca and Cleolai are AWESOME. like, Dracubecca is one of my favorite G1 dolls, hands down.

i bought geek shriek frankie (minus the glasses) for super cheap in a charity ship and i honestly think she's super cute!! she's definitely giving budget but without the god-awful glasses the outfit actually comes together very nicely. unfortunately i can't say the same for the other dolls in the line 😬
(also i'm surprised you didn't mention the save frankie dolls from freaky fusion... literally why did they exist 💀)

For halloween my job allows multiple days of costumes so I always do a different one each day, this year I'm doing a frog, a skeleton, and then red guy from dhmis ^^

I think the main reason skulltimate secrets neon frights got the highest spot is becauae its so new and everyone's getting them rn and so the disappointment is fresh from the iffy quality and somewhat odd designs

I found the ghoul spirit set for $20 at walmart and i LOVE the Frankie doll. Their so cool and i love the side shave, wish it was their default hair tbh

Avea Trotter is my one true Monster High love. I’m a sucker for all things centaurs. I even have a bunch of the mini dolls of that side line. I love the new and original characters for that movie. ❤

I have been super selective with who I am getting from G3. Not that I dont like them but just my doll budget can only go so far. That six pack is rough. I think its main let down is all the printed on details. It almost looks like they are wearing paper clothing. They are essentially a six pack of budget dolls with a little added flair here and there, Cleos shiney dress and mesh sleeves along with the fur on Clawdeens shirt. I like a lot of what was in the fearadescent line. I love the mainly monochrome colors and the boots!!! I am a big fan of that shiney material as it reminds me of dolls from my childhood....lol. Ha! I called out freaky fusion. That was my least favorite. I am thinking specifically the ones where they dressed up as their friends. My single least favorite MH doll was Frankie dressed as Clawdeen. Such a head scratcher....

I would have totally gotten the Clawdeen siblings pack (no pun intended) if I had known it existed.
The Clawdeen doll would have been put into storage but I would have kept the siblings and displayed them with my other Clawdeen dolls and family.

Na because literally everyone forgot about Garden Ghouls and now that I’m saying it out loud perhaps the memories are coming back. That weird as heck tree character? The little fairy versions of the characters? The entire premise having been already done but 1000 times better? No no, that needed to be on the list somewhere if not at least an honorable mention.

I'm surprised Freaky Fusion has such a bad score. I loved Cleolei and found the other ones creative enough. Not one of the best but not the worst. I'm actually surprised the garden-themed line didn't make it through. I remember the materials and some designs were... questionable, at the least.
Literally gasped when I saw what number one for G1 was. I just got into collecting a few years ago so I have no idea what was popular or unpopular when they were coming out. I think the fusion dolls are sooo cute (except Clawvenus. Can't get into that) and have two already - just need Dracubecca. But damn, good to know I'm the only one that likes them. Means I get them for cheaper asdsfasf

Geek shriek is so painfully 2010s with the nerdy chunky frame glasses, the bowties. The only thing that could make it even more dated is if they had more of that goddamn moustache that was everywhere at the time, or flannel shirts, or those infinity scarves. Howleen already has the moustache on her shirt.
Personally I would've put ghoul spirit as first for the worst g3 line, but I wonder if there's some recency bias with the neon frights line. I kinda forgot the ghoul spirit pack came out, while neon frights is still new and fresh in people's minds, and definitely has qc issues (although i think qc issues is just a thing with skulltimate secrets in general, not just neon frights). Or maybe most people got ghoul spirit for cheap and can be more forgiving of it? I know the base price was expensive, but I remember seeing it get pretty cheap. It was also pretty early on in g3's run, so I can see it being overlooked.
As someone who wasn't a Monster High collector during the first generation but did see the transition to the second one, I never really got just how bad it was until now seeing you go from the third to second
