    ---------------------
This case is a little complicated, and I learned a lot from this. First and foremost, I learned that if you want to address an issue that is not included on the IRS Proposed amount due notice, you will need an amended return. We disagree with some changes and agree with others.
    Issues involved in this case.
    - Securities sales (very common)
    - Retirement distributions (with some we agree, and other we don’t)
    - Interest income (was already reported as dividend income originally)
    - There were errors on original return that was not addressed in the IRS Proposed amount due notice, so we filed an amended return
    - Retirement Distribution was originally reported as taxable, and it wasn’t
    - Claimed too much in mortgage interest due to the limitation
Looking to learn about how to respond to the IRS Proposed amount due notice, this video can teach a lot!

I had received same CP2000 notice back in June. Responded in August. Got a letter today saying they need additional time to view my responses.

I live in SF and many of the items listed on the CP2000 2020 are not even my accounts. I provided substantiation that they have the wrong information. They came back at me requesting even more detailed.

So on your CP2000 form where it says "Shown on return" and "Reported by others" it looked like the "Shown on return" tied to your cost basis and the "Reported by others" tied to your proceeds. So were they essentially saying that what you showed on your return was your cost basis as your proceeds (and therefore reporting you don't need to pay taxes on those transactions)?

    • @eataxresolutions

No, they are taking the difference of the basis and the proceeds on the CP2000
