Just a note: Great info but in case you can't use purple shampoo it is not totally neccesary. I have silver white hair and never use purple shampoo. But I don't use ANY heat styling, I wear a hat in the sun, I don't smoke or drink, I never use chemicals or coloring on my hair, I eat organic whole food and I use Aveda brand shampoo and conditioner. I also always drink purified water AND always use a good shower filter and keep it maintained according to the directions. Shower filters really help and don't cost much for the benefits you get. I have started using hair oil once or twice a month but that is recent. I have had no yellowing and have had beautiful silvery white grays for over 20 years so far. Just a little note.
Please recommend a shower filter. I’ve researched, my plumber also said ineffective and didn’t want to bother installing. I have . VERY hard water and will buy one
I’ve stopped dying my hair been two years now my hair doesn’t go grey but turns white as I’m blonde I’m quite lucky that it doesn’t really show my hair is in much better condition I lost a lot of it due to having a bad covid thankfully it grew back. You have absolutely beautiful hair
PS My mom is in her 80s. She quit dying her hair 40 years ago and she never uses purple shampoo. She uses a blow dryer only twice a week and no hot irons or hot rollers. Her hair is perfectly silver white and shiny. No yellowing. No purple shampoo. She uses good brands of mild shampoos without the worst chemicals.
I have found your videos to be VERY helpful and supportive for my gray hair grow out journey. I am in the midst of color blending my gray hair with the help of my stylist and your introduction of Overtone Conditioner has been a game changer for me. Thank you so much for the great support and advice. With sincere gratitude🙂
I have had salt and pepper hair for many years now. I have a combination of dark, fine, slightly wavy hair and coarser, dryer, frizzier gray hair. I have honed the products I use over the years, and the ones I’ve found to be most effective are Pureology Color Fanatic Leave-In Conditioner (yes, even though I don’t color my hair - it’s for conditioning and nourishing), Redken Frizz Dismiss Rebel Tame Leave-in cream (to heat protect and smooth/tame the frizzies), and Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil (to condition the ends).
Great video! Glad you mentioned castor oil for hair - it's wonderful - if applied gently. I put about 1/8 TSP in my palm, and a couple drops of facial oil, rub hands together. Then I scrunch it into my hair wherever needed. No more frizzies, hello depth and shine.
My uncle Bob had a full head of beautiful, shiny silver hair. He was a smoker of pot and tobacco, ate a normal American diet of meals made at home mostly. Was in the military and had a rough life. Worked for a lumber mill until retirement. He never avoided the sun and did a lot of outdoor activities year round. Oh and he used a blow dryer and brush to style his hair for decades.
Your video was very helpful thank you. I'm growing my hair out from a very short pixie so I decided to stop getting highlights so I could see how much grey I really have. I was so surprised at the amount of silver I have and am so delighted with the results.
Hi, Lynn! I just got the last of my dyed hair chopped yesterday (back to pixie), and now for the grow-out. Your hair is GOALS. Love your videos, very inspiring.❤️
Your hair is lovely. I've been on this silver ride for about eight years and did join some silver groups when I began. I'm enjoying your company, your channel is quite entertaining and I could use a refresher as I give my hair so little thought these days. I have perpetual hat head and the only one's that see me regularly are my livestock and my dogs.. They care less than I do. These strange algorithms..I had been thinking earlier that I need to give it some love and a trim and here your channel pops up. I'll take your advice below and get some of that air dry styler. Thanks! New sub.
Thanks for your video. Silver shampoo certainly helps against the yellow in your hair. I have a love/hate relationship with my gray hair. My solution. Put in a few meches, twice a year and use make-up. And that works for me😊
Very informative thank you. I have gorgeous long dark salt and pepper hair apart from a band of white all around the face and I hate it. When I use purple shampoo it colours the white hair differently as it's going on to a white base.
I use shampoo and conditioner with henna, specifically designed for gray hair. My hair is mostly brown and most of my gray is along my forehead with some more spread out all over my head. I ‘ve never dyed it and just thinking about the people I know who do dye theirs and how much effort and time they dedicate to covering their gray, I have no inclination to dye mine. Thank you very much for your advice.
I use Davine's Heart of Glass purple shampoo. My hairdresser used it on my last visit and I could see a marked difference. I don't like the smell, tbh but you can use it every wash and it doesn't dry your hair. Fanola is great but pretty drying. I also use Olaplex No6 to strengthen my hair (remarkable difference) and Olaplex oil as a finisher. It's expensive but lasts forever. I started growing my hair out in October 2021 and I don't regret it. I absolutely love my hair and think I look unique. Dying it had started to feel like trying to stop an incoming tide with a sieve.
Heart of Darkness is the best for me, too. Its the only one that doesn't dry out my hair. My only complaint is the insane high cost!! Ive been using Davines, Oribe and Olaplex products fir the last 10 years, so am no stranger to high end hair care. But HOD is over the top. In between using it, i find that Kenra Moisture shampoo and Color Protection conditioner get the job done. Im one year into my transition from blond highlights to gray- silver on my shoulder length hair. Seems to be taking forever!
I use purple shampoo, and I use it 1-2 times a month. I use good shampoo and conditioner, too. My hair is very curly, and I wear it short because I look terrible with chin length or longer hair. I use 2 pumps of Paul Mitchell skinny oil first, and then I use a little mousse. I air dry it, and then I work my hands into loosen the curls. Easy for me, especially with my shoulder that needs to be replaced.
I'm growing out my silver and love the healthy glow of it. I was keeping my hair in a short curly bob, but the hair dresser desided to do suddenly a short dudes hair cut.I didn't know till I felt the back 😭 All my curls gone. I was supposed to get married next month but now cancelled. I could handle the gold ends but not short hair. This is marvellous advice that you give which I have followed. Thank you for for your channel.
Use silver conditioner instead of shampoo as its not drying. I use shrine white toner Drop it into my conditioner just a few drops 5 / 10 mins then rinse off nice lovely colour without leaving a purple tone
Its been 2 yrs- my silver hair is to my shoulders. no yellow or orange. But I have tried many products to determine what works. Too much heavy conditioner makes it flat. But of course I need conditioner. I love having hair which is 100% natural. I tried purple shampoo but it didnt do anything really- my hair doesnt look yellow. I find pantene products to work well for me.
I would like more info on oiling. I assume you do this prior to washing. How much? How long? Does it really help if you’re going to shampoo it out anyway? My hair is less course if I rinse the conditioner out with cold water. I mostly let my hair dry naturally and style with a tiny bit of heat. So far, no yellowing and I’m out in the Texas sun a lot, so I’m blessed in that regard. I grew my color out in 2020 and I haven’t looked back. Best decision I ever made. I get a lot of compliments on my hair and some people ask who colored it. I would just like to not have days after I wash it t when it’s course.
I put it on my hair when it's dry, leave it on as long as I can handle it (sometimes overnight but I wear a shower cap pinned to my head lol). Then I wash it out!
Been grey for 2 years salt and pepper.very long and I'm loving it. Never have had any yellow ever. My mum had the most beautiful grey hair and shinning. This is ridiculous saying we need to use things for grey hair 😮😮
Thanks for the video. I have gone from bone straight hair to very frizzy, wavy, sort of curly hair. I found your channel when I was searching how to bring out my natural wave. I am a work in progress for sure. Haven't found that perfect combo yet but appreciate all the information. I live in Louisiana so frizz is the most difficult thing to control. Any products you really love when allowing your hair to air dry?
@@grayawhile Thanks! I have the JVN air dry cream and I swear, my hair laughed at it, even with a gel on top. Do you put anything over the Odele product like mousse our gel?
@@grayawhile thank you for the suggestions. I see that Ulta has the sea salt spray. The whole "curly" world is somewhat overwhelming. I really appreciate channels like yours that are actually talking about gray hair challenges.
I would love to grow out my grey hair; wished I didn't dyed them black..beacause now once colour fades, brown start to appear. Do you have any tips for addressing those browns so I can grow out the grays?xx

Do you have recommendations for a clear hair oil for fine hair? I fear that yellow colored oils may be staining my gray hair. Thanks.

What does caster oil do?
Nothing
Gray hair is dryer, so it helps put moisture in the hair.
