What people forget about freedom of expression is that individuals do not owe it to one another, the state owes it to citizens, just like any other right. The problem in india, as Abhishek rightly said is not that people take offence. It's that the state has consistently failed to protect FOE. Governments ought to protect people from threats, violence etc so that they voice their opinions fearlessly. Instead, indian governments have always erred on the side of stifling expression. Thus it is counterproductive to view the issue from the lens of outrage/intolerance. We should instead be talking about how we can pressure the state into doing its duty. When diverse opinions are shared freely, tolerance and a sense of humour will follow naturally.

Wow. Such an amazing episode. It covered so many diverse topics and made sense (as much as one can find, at least) out of a lot of the bullshit that goes on.
The last part where Rohini mentions how unequipped we are as individuals to empathise with a person really struck a chord with me. The thing is, some people feel like it's okay to say anything. It baffles me how someone actually thought that it was okay to talk to Rohini about the expense of her husband's cremation. How stupid do you have to be to not see the obvious red signal on that?! No mater how noble your intentions are, there is a time and a way to say things. And that is a nuance that many lack.

It's not feminism it's not sexism. It's just that some people wanted to listen to Abhishek more and some don't like it when someone interrupts. Although I loved to see her talk. And those two didn't mind it too.

Not much of a guy to comment often but I was thoroughly captivated by Rohini's commentary and experiences towards the second half of the podcast on how people are ill equipped in helping others deal with grief. I have personally been the guy who awkwardly has no idea what to say or do to help someone grieving and Rohini has well enlightened me on what not to do. Genuinely inspired by her.

We are taught how to celebrate achievements but not how to deal with grief and losses.. and if it happens to you at a very young age, it may scar you forever.( hey, that's me 😏). The first first time I was exposed to a penis was when I was in the 9th std, a guy pretended to ask me for directions, he looked down at paper he took out of his pocket, I looked down, and his penis was on full display. I was traumatised, I cried so much.
A woman is made to feel like the 'male gaze' is the only form of acceptance she will recieve. It is like some sort of salvation, x number of guys looked at me today that means I look good. Probably the worst way for a woman to live. Needs to change and we need men to instigate this change. Xx

The previous few podcasts where so one-dimensional that I had decided not to watch it again. But, I am so glad I watched this. Rohini was not like the typical guest Daniel has on his show who agree on everything. There was a disagreement, healthy discussion and less of Daniel's simplistic bashing of others. I came to watch Abhishek and leave in awe of Rohini's talent and level headedness. And, this is not just a reaction to her personal story of loss, it's for everything she said before that too.

Seeing the good in things has never been my strong point. I explore new heights of cynicism almost everyday, but after this video, I was just staring at the screen for about five minutes, while my mind encountered this amazing new thing called "appreciation", and I was stunned! I never knew of Rohini before this video, and now I'm so glad that I belong to a species, which has produced someone like her, with such wonderful insights on things. Humanity gives me hope when I see/hear/experience people like these three, and almost all the guests on Danny's show. Just wow!
P.S. Danny, someday, if you and I were to cross paths, I would just hope you know how to rescue yourself from a I-refuse-to-let-you-go bear hug!

It's 5:20 in the morning. I couldn't sleep the entire night and eventually I decided to watch this podcast. I do not regret the decision. Daniel, thank you for talking about things that actually matter and bringing amazing people together with different stories and opinions. There is so much to learn from every episode. I hope you will keep bringing lovely people and bring up things that aren't often talked about. Thank you! :)

in one of his youtube videos, biswa has done this "voice in your head" bit so beautifully. it was something I never observed.
I guess that is the beauty of indian comic scene nowadays, they make you notice/point things about yourself that you haven't already had. So, even though we are still learning this art form from the western world [with a very limited exposure to global comedy except for very famous, russel, eddie M, robin W, chris etc] I think no other comics as a collective have explore that aspect.

a wonderful way to beat the Monday morning blues. Rohini was fabulous!! finding yourself outside your partner was something that struck such a huge cord. So many of us, me included tend to forget we were individuals before becoming a couple and life can go on without them. It may take time, but it will work out eventually. Best podcast so far!!
Another thing that stood out is India does not have it's priorities set. We have put the safety of cows before women and give more importance to stupid jokes and memes over more serious issue that violate basic human rights. W e really need to wake up and set our priorities straight.

Thank you Daniel for doing this. These topics are frowned upon as they stem from insecurities and it is nice to listen to Rohini, she made sense and i actually found that insight quite relatable as well as immensely helpful.

Liked that you maturely discussed the emotions involved when you lose someone. Hardest emotion to deal with, I believe. Love and peace to Rohini.
Abhishek is always sensible and funny.

Rohini, your views are so fresh and I can honestly say I have taken back a lot of grace from your words here. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Abhishek, very nice to see you again, I realize this is actually older than the last time I saw you (Bangalore, end of October, 2017) but I'm just getting around to seeing this so this has been a very nice session with both of you! Danny you've got another subscriber since this is the first podcast of yours I've gotten around to watch as I was scouring TH-cam for more CLC content. Cheers to all of you! :)

Daniel, I love you for what you do. I've always loved your content and with this podcast series so far, you've put forth a lovely platform for discussing sensitive topics and also sharing the perspective of those usually on the receiving end. I liked this episode the most, followed by the one with Aditi and Karunesh.
Halfway through the video, I was amazed by the amount of wisdom Rohini showed. And towards the end, when she discussed her feelings about her loss and how she dealt with it, I had a sudden flush of respect for her. I believe with the support from family and friends, as she said, she has evolved to be a very emotionally mature person.
Waiting for more awesome work from you Daniel..
