  • Acts 10:1-48 and Acts 11:1-18 is a tremendous example of the enlightenment of Peter, other Jewish Christian believers, and new Gentile Christian believers. The biblical meaning of the word “enlightened” is “a coming to a knowledge of the truth” and “being enabled by the Holy Spirit to see.” Those in the early church all must come to the understanding that God is intent on including “even the Gentiles” in His redemptive plan and the privilege of receiving the Holy Spirit. To all people “God has granted repentance that leads to life.”
This is of enormous importance in God’s Kingdom. In these words, Peter swept away centuries of religious and racial prejudice. No longer was God only for the Jews, and no longer was Jesus only a Jewish Messiah. Salvation does not rest in the works of some religious group. Members of the body of Christ come from every ethnic group where the Gospel has been preached.
