To the Ends of the Earth: Session 3: Paul’s Second Missionary Journey, Pt 2: Acts 17:1--34; 18:1-28
In Acts 17:1-34 we continue Paul's second missionary journey along with his current ministry partners, Silas and Timothy. They bring the Gospel of Jesus to Thessalonia, Berea, and Athens. In each city, they face persecution for their boldness. Whether Paul is in a Jewish synagogue, in the open marketplace, or with the intellectuals on Mars Hill, he beautifully illustrates how to effectively contextualize the Gospel to both Jews, Greeks, and Gentiles.
In Acts 18:1-28, the second missionary journey continues to Corinth. At first Paul arrives alone. He soon meets a husband and wife, Aquilla and Priscilla, who are also tentmakers like Paul. They work at tentmaking during the week and share the message of Jesus in the synagogues on the Sabbath. Soon, Silas and Timothy reunite with Paul in Corinth. At the close of his second missionary journey, Paul returns to the home church in Antioch of Syria to report all that God has done. Acts 18 ends with a brief introduction to a Christian Jew named Apollos who will become important to the spread of the Gospel.

To the Ends of the Earth: Session 2: Paul’s Second Missionary Journey: Part 1: Acts 15:1-41; 16:1-40
มุมมอง 3021 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
In Acts 15:1-41, we experience the decision of the Jerusalem Council over what to do about "the Gentile issue." This helps establish the foundational theological truth that Jesus is the only way to salvation. This frees Paul to continue his mission of grace to the Gentiles. Along the way to his second missionary journey and due to a squabble with Barnabas, Paul acquires a new ministry partner, ...

In Acts 13:1-52, we witness the birth of the missions, evangelism, and discipleship. We also embark on Paul and Barnabas’ first missionary journey that lasted over two years and covered over 1400 miles in Asia Minor, specifically in Galatia. Wherever they went, they spoke to the Jews first, then to the Gentiles. We listen to Paul’s efforts to “effectively contextualize” the Gospel message throu...

In Acts 11:19-26, we get to witness the birth of the church at Antioch. Some of those who had been scattered due to persecution made their way to Antioch and shared the Gospel with the Gentiles there. A strong, growing church was born out of Gentile converts who did not first convert to Judaism. Barnabas was sent by the church in Jerusalem to confirm what had happened in Antioch the place where...

Acts 10:1-48 and Acts 11:1-18 is a tremendous example of the enlightenment of Peter, other Jewish Christian believers, and new Gentile Christian believers. The biblical meaning of the word “enlightened” is “a coming to a knowledge of the truth” and “being enabled by the Holy Spirit to see.” Those in the early church all must come to the understanding that God is intent on including “even the Ge...

In Acts 9:1-43 we encounter the lifechanging conversion of Saul who was chosen by God to transform Saul the persecutor of Christians to Paul the apostle of Jesus Christ. In Saul’s experience we see the “miracle of a moment when a soul finds its worth” in Jesus. Paul will go on to figure prominently in Acts 13-28. But before that, we have opportunity to witness the pit from which God took him an...

Acts 8:1-40 is a pivotal chapter in Acts. Due to heightened persecution, believers in Jerusalem are scattered. As they go, they take the good news of Jesus with them, effectively fulfilling His command to be His witnesses “in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8). In Acts 8, through a man named Philip, the Gospel makes it way to the Samaritans and to an Ethiopian E...

Acts 6:1-15 present us with an issue in the everyday life of the early church in Jerusalem and gives us a strong example of how to deal with such instances today. In Acts 7:1-60 we face the death of the first martyr of the early church: Stephen. But before his death by stoning, Stephen presents the first major speech of a non-apostle in Acts. Through his words, Stephen shows how Christianity is...

Acts 4:1-37; Acts 5:1-42 marks the beginning of resistance to evangelism in the life of the early church and records the book’s first imprisonment and persecution because of faith in Jesus Christ. These chapters teach us that the attitude of the early believers toward difficulty was to rejoice because they had been considered worthy to suffer for Christ.
