The gear changing stuff is a REAL handful with the PS4, particularly as I like to soar over the scenery in Camera Mode which removes all control from the loco when in that external mode...something still possible in other external modes. I get a real sense of achievement if I get it right (which is rare!)...Respect to those drivers of the real thing!

That train is old... so, old.
It has the manual destination sign with the light.
A rolled up banner with all the stations on it that shows through a glass pane on the front of the train with a light you have to turn on, and you have to turn a knob to set it. Don’t wanna do that

  • @derrickgreen9020

This was just brilliant fun to watch and I learnt I didn’t have to put the throttle to neutral in between gear changes. Thanks so much for posting this run. I do miss the exquisite detail from a PC but I’m really pleased to run it on the PS4.

It is a vacuum brake system which has no pressure in it as you have sucked out all the air. The vacuum sucks off the brake and then as your breaking your letting air into the pipes which is releasing the vacuum and putting the breaks on.

Funny. The engines on the 101 idling sound almost identical to the ones on the original stock 142s. Good in their day, but now very grim, smoky and with a propensity to self-immolate when stopped in station after a steep climb.

101 braking is much like steam loco braking - you control the rate of brake application/release, not the braking pressure directly. Very easy to overcook it and be left at too low a speed.

There needs to be Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane trains, the Indian Pacific, and The Ghan. The Australian freight trains can be as long as the American and Canadian freight trains. Australian trains are an untapped resource as far as Train Simulators are concerned. Australian rail is rich in history and it deserves to be covered.
