I have 2 of these units. First is about 4 years old and the other about 1 year. Both work well for us. I have a lot of Ryobi product so the batteries and chargers were no problem. When the unit was designed the largest battery Ryobi made was the 4aH and it fits perfectly. I can't speak to the grinding but that sounds like a faulty unit to me.

Totally agree. I like how the noise showed up after the warranty expired.

Get the right battery and it will work ... Use ryobi charger, 30 min charge 3 amp battery
