    The Last Samurai is one of my favorite films. I like it because while it's history is off kilter it does provide an example of what the Samurai strove to be, characteristics that were personified in the character of Katsumoto, the Saigo Takamori-inspired leader of the rebellion. It's also the first movie I ever saw with Ken Watanabe, who is now one of my favorite actors, Japanese or otherwise.

      Thanks to asian language. It has an edge on english insofar as how it allows users to perceive time and something that is happening to them as opposed to something they are fully responsible for acting upon.

    An offer of surrender, Saigo ignore contender
    The dawn of destiny is here

    None alive, none survive

    I have seen the Movie "The Last Samari" I loved the Movie! Although it was Fictionalized, I had no knowledge that it was based on this Remarkable Man! Modernization, Technology, brings many benefits, there is no question about that! It also brings the Demise of a Way of Life, and in my opinion; a Terrible Loss of Values. Now in Society the Young think, and believe that the World owns them everything! They have no idea of hard Manual Work! Of earning, Respect, they spend all their time on Cellphones, playing Make Belief Games on Digital Players. Our Leaders are Worthless, no true Leadership with Honor! How the World could use a Man with Dignity, Honesty, Integrity!! Thst no longer exists!!

  • @leusmaximusx

    why did the samurai not allowed themselves to be integrated and commanded by the civilian agents of the emperor ? Why do they still want to be a direct authority from emperor and not be equal to other agencies ?
    are they not aware of the civilian supremacy/rights over military as the modern concept of government ?

    • @DionysianLovecraftian
      @DionysianLovecraftian ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Many samurai later integrated as generals, officiers, soldiers e.t.c into the modern Japanese army. But some protested because were not happy about civilians having equal rights to them as previously that had privileges that made have a higher social status. They wanted to maintain the feudal order to have more privileges and not give them up.

    When my papa was dying, we were at home & he had hospice. His cancer had come back and it was just a matter of a little over a week before he was gone. The last movie he was conscious for was The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise. I only watched it because he seemed happy to have it on but would ask me every 5mim what movie was on, complain that it's kinda shit, but then protest when I'd offer to change it to something he'd like. His reasoning? "Nah, we may as well see this shit show through." Makes me laugh & a little sad to remember those days. I was just 12 and he was my everything. I still feel bad he went out having to watch Tim Cruise's mediocre white washed role in that movie.
