I have had a basset and their sense of smell is supposedly only second to the bloodhound. And my basset Fred could track man. I can’t imagine a dog with an even stronger sense of smell that go through the whole neighborhood, and not 20 minutes up the road.😌👍

Love Bloodhounds. My most favorite dog. Just great trackers and loyal babies. Thanks for the video.

Basset Hound owner here, and some Basset folks joke that a Bloodhound is a long-legged Basset.
Yeah, their builds are different, and not just the leg length.
My Bassets loved meeting the Bloodhounds they've seen.

Just like Basset hounds. The brain turns off to anything except locating the scent..or getting fed lol.

Well done! Learned a lot too! We’ve got a French mastiff bloodhound cross! The most amazing dog I’ve ever owned! They aren’t for a first time dog owner tho... Very strong personality and a powerful animal as well. If you’re cut out for one? They’re AMAZING! 👍

Perhaps its issues arising from the loose skin but I've found that dogs with the best sense of smell seem to stink the most themselves.

A hound tracked a thief across Kansas and found him!!!!!Look it up!!!

    • @lunartears6761

I can believe that. My basset tracked a fricking juvenile frog from our house 10-15 minuits up the road to our neighbors house. And he found it In a thick bush. My parents and I were awed at how accurate and consistent he was. I then later read that that sort of thing paled in comparison to what the bloodhound can do with their nose.😯

A longtime bloodhound owner here; One of the great features about bloodhounds is that if you keep them in a fenced yard, they will take their dumps at the farthest end of the yard possible. They establish their own little graveyard that should be considered sacred territory. Stay off of that territory and you never need to worry about tracking dog crap into the house. My daughter has us watch her black lab when she goes on vacation, and that dog craps everywhere, especially in the high traffic area of the yard. Disgusting!!! Give me a little slobber any day!

I don't believe that about the ears. If it was true Bassett Hounds would be the champions of tracking and then there are GSD, Labs, Golden Retrievers, Beagles, and many more if not all dogs that can do the same. I had a Golden Retriever that could find and tree animals such as raccoons and possums better and quicker than any hound. Not only that, but she could see where in the tree it was and she would stay there barking treed for hours. A hound does get more excited when treeing. Some will bite the tree and try to climb it.

In the video he literally says they’re not used for hunting they’re used for finding the scent of humans you fucking idiot of course a retriever is gonna be able to find a small animal better than hound that’s what they were bred to do

Idk what “church” he was talking about in the 2nd century. The catholic church was barely prominent then and the first mention of bloodhounds were not even made till after the year 1000 ad
