  • Join me for a day in the life of a doctor, vlogging in the hospital! I'll be answering your questions about pagers. How do you page someone? What if I get multiple pages at the same time?
    DO YOU WHAT TO BE IN A VIOLIN MD VIDEO?!?
    1. Answer the question "what do doctors do that annoys you as a patient?"
    2. Make a video of you answering the question (less than 1 minute, ideally 20-30 seconds)
    3. Upload to TH-cam as "unlisted" (not available to the public, only people with the link can view it 🙈)
    4. Email me the link at theviolinmd@gmail.com
    5. Include your first name and the country you live in
    Deadline: July 1st, 2018
    This video will be similar to "Do Doctors Annoy Nurses", so take a look to have an idea what I'm going for!
    • DO DOCTORS ANNOY NURSE...
    I look forward to hearing from you!! 🤗
    Thanks for watching and I hope you have a great week!

    Thank you so much for being such a positive and capable person. Over a year ago, I lost an aunt to familial amyloidosis and complications. At some points, we would come across doctors and nurses that seemed like they were too tired to care or assumed that she was on drugs and didn't have a real medical issue. Many times, her sisters had to fight with the medical staff on hand because they didn't want to hear the information that we had on what she was going through. But at the same time, we always had incredible people who cared and took the time to show it. People like you are such a positive light in the world. Thank you.

      I work as a RN in the trauma-surgery unit. What i have noticed is theres a hierarchy, the first year interns and residents rotate to be overnight on calls and theres usually a new batch every 6 months before they rotate to a different specialty area. The attending doctors work office hours and there would just be one attending oncall overnight to help the residents on high emergency situations or in my case on our unit if theres a big trauma coming in that requires emergency surgery, an attending surgeon has to be there. So when I work on the unit, i page the interns first...if its been a while and they dont respond, i page the residents next and on my experience, things get addressed right away by then.

      I think the rule is not like that. 50 hour a week limitation dose not mean that you work 7 hour a days but you can work 16 hr or 24 hour but not exceed 50 hour a week and have rest period in between each shifts.

    This was super interesting!! I’m a nurse in a US hospital and we use pagers as well, but slightly differently. We send a “page” but it contains a written message that we can type out on the computer containing the patient, their location, and what the issue is. The page goes to either their pager, or, some providers download an app and can respond to the pages using their phones. For non urgent messages they can page an answer back, and for more urgent matters they call or show up at bedside.

    So I just discovered your videos yesterday . I am an internal medicine doctor from Germany . I finished my residency equivalent late last year. In Germany we use portable landline phones , so you will have coverage everwhere in the hospital ,when they call you can see the number and often the name of the person calling you or the ward they are calling from . We can clear a lot of problems directly on the phone. Downside ist that sometimes Patients or there relatives are put through to you in the middle of the night on minor things which could have been handled in the morning easily . The phone rining is just as annoying as the pager, but you can answer the phone you dont even have to put on the lights`, if you mannaged to lay down . The pager seems pretty inconvienient to me.
    I used to work a lot of 26h shifts as well, first in the emergency room and later in the ICU.
    I am quite impressed with how positive and energetic you are because I know how bone deep tired one feels after a 26 h shift (or a few in a row) or even during the shift. I quit my job and am not working at a hospital anymore . So props to you !

    I just recently found your channel and I must say, I am addicted! Secondly, we are just starting to use the paging system at the hospital I work at. There is a lot of flaws but it has gotten a lot better! They’re working on dead zones because unfortunately, they don’t work in ICU or the nursing home that’s attached but on the other hand it’s smoother to get a hold of the attending(s). Although, we don’t have the 1-2-3 system which is a nice touch, if it is urgent the physicians told us to not even bother with the beeper, to call their personal cell phone directly. I’m excited to see that our small hospital still can hold its own with similar ways aka the beepers but who am I kidding, they just made it mandatory that the doctors are to place all their orders in the system (POM) vs hand written orders! My question is, is there any doctors in your facility that still do hand written orders (not progress notes) or are they strictly placing them in the system??

    • @ViolinMD
      @ViolinMD  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Sam - thanks for sharing about your hospital! So it depends which hospital you are at... I work at one that is all electronic (orders, notes, everything) and I work at others that are still all paper and pen for notes and orders! It’s certainly easier to read on the computer though haha!

    • @sdwyer77
      @sdwyer77 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Violin MD I agree! For now most of our speciality doctors are allowed to write progress notes in the chart, but our hospitalist have to do everything in the system. They’re trying to switch the specialty doctors over but it’s a lot harder for them to learn the system after they’ve done everything on paper for so long! I think a lot of people can agree computer is easier due to doctors handwriting being it’s own language on its own as well. Thanks for replying! 😁

    You're Super. I'd love to have a doctor like you. Please don't change. I had to move away from my Dr a month ago. She was unbelievably awesome. Becoming a Dr was her 2nd career. She was meant to be a doctor. Thank you for sharing.

    You are so cute! I know this is an old video but I was actually Googling how pagers are used in hospitals and this video was one of the top video results. And it perfectly answered the questions I had, so thank you!
