Seeing the true likeness of the hand suddenly emerge from the wood is beautiful and a true testament to your talent and skill. Keep it up, Lignum! You're quickly becoming my favorite artist on TH-cam, and I'm sure many others can say the same.
holy shit. how? I have been here since the 6000 sub Mark and this channel has just skyrocketed! the amount of skill in this piece is outstanding. can't wait for the next vid, thanks
Dear Sir, Your original project becomes all the more interesting with the dexterity with which you handle that Stanley knife. Even most skilled craftsmen normally use dedicated sculpting chisels. I can just about open a carton with that knife yet you make look so easy( knowing full well how challenging it is to work with the wrong implement). Your work is truly astounding, great background music too I taught. Very well done my old fruit & kind regards.
Thank you so much :). I never tried whittling with real carving knives, my friend told me I'd be amazed how much easier it is.. I'm thinking of buying a set from ebay.. I saw a couple of old Japanese ones in great shape and I think I'l invest..
So cool! I love the HAND carving :) I really like how you made that steel base. At first I thought is was just flashing wrapped around the wood, but that's way cooler putting a solid block of steel! Awesome job lignum!
Thank you Eli! I had to put some heavy weight on the bottom so It wouldn't tip over. It turned out more stable than i thought.. Almost like no spill cup ;)
Well, I initially thought you was going to carve the hand just with your robot following some 3d shots of your hand... (which could be also a cool video indeed) instead you've shown us also that you're also a great hand tool carpenter! Well done man!
Thank you Ryan soo much! I'm stunned about all this youtube thing more than anyone.. How are things with you? Are you working on some new video projects?
Wow! Well done Brother! You and PJ are on the same wavelength! Incredible that you both uploaded on the same day! I MUST try my hand at it!.......see what I did there!...LOL! I might have to do the torso and we could put them all together for a complete body! We could send it to DiResta to put his finishing touch and complete the colab!...LOL! Have A Super Week!.....Gus
It's great! You do it perfect on the outside, the nails, the nuckles, so realistic, but I was wondering why you didn't do it more details on the palm. Im sure you can do it more real if you want. But it was just a piece of advise, I love it!
I do sometimes, but natural wood looks best to me, I like slowly changing color and patina, I think It's a part of it's charm :D Its not meant to last millenniums like stone..
I don't know, Just feels better I guess.. Sometimes I use dremel to remove rough chunks, but for fine details i use a knife.. Glad you like my vids! :)
Hi, your work is amazing. I want to ask you something: may I have your permission to use some parts of this video, since I need shots of a 3D hand rotating? I promise I'll give you credit.
Hi Lignum, My name is Jelle, I'm 15 years old, and I come from the Nederlands. This video inspired me to do something very similar. I have a few question though, and I would like to ask them to you, and I hope you can answer some: 1. What kind of wood do you use? 2. Do you actually use 1 solid block of wood? 3. Is the tool you use at 2.40 really necessary, and what it is called? 4. Do you have any further tips? Drawing hands is already hard enough, so carving a realistically proportional one out in wood it's truly incredible. Great job
bruh, I can't even draw hands you're out there doing this. Incredible!
I'm not sure I could draw it either.. :D
Lignum is definitely in my top 5 favorite channels! Love your videos!!!

Oh, my... With a utility knife and one hook blade... I'm packing up my carving tools and storing them in the attic :-) Clyde
Yeah, I should really invest in some better tools..
This as a book stop would be great
Yeah, a pair of them would be great on a display shelf.
Great idea for a project! Thank you!

Haha:D +
got say this impressive. good music, band saw, scrap wood, box cuter I give hand but already got one. sory pun.
Ahaha, Thank you Rodney! :D
Nice ring stand.
Gj 💪👏👏 saludos desde Uruguay
This would make a cool sanding block as the hand could look like it’s sinking in quick sand but it’s just sinking in a sanding block
Офигенно! Я думал это ЧПУ станок такое делает!
How many box cutter blades did you use total? They must get dull fast
It probably took around 20 or so.. They don't get dull so fast but the tip is brittle and it breaks off easily..
YES!! that is excellent!
dremmel prehaps?
And all done by hand of the hand....👌
:) I had to give a robot a well deserved break ;)
Great video! Love your content
I'm glad you do! Thank you!

Hello what species of wood did you use on this project?
I like your videos they're very interesting but can I ask you something tell me why do you use a Stanley knife instead of a Dremel ?
I don't know, Just feels better I guess.. Sometimes I use dremel to remove rough chunks, but for fine details i use a knife.. Glad you like my vids! :)
fair enough it was just a question
Not bad.. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it a.. 14 lol. Awesome.
ahahaha, Thank you !
Great art, great images, but this music??
Awesome work man 👌👏
Thank you!
Very very good!
Thank you!
Good stuff man

Great job. How long did it take to finish it?
I don't remember exactly tbh.. A couple of days I'd say..
Hi, your work is amazing. I want to ask you something: may I have your permission to use some parts of this video, since I need shots of a 3D hand rotating? I promise I'll give you credit.
What wood did you use? Not lignum vitae, right?
Impressive!
Thank you!
Awsome!
That knot would look so damn awsome if it was on the palm side :)
You are right, too bad it didn't show it self on the surface of the block..

Bel lavoro number one, però io metterei dei guanti per una sicurezza in più.
good job!
Thank you!:)
Hi Lignum,
My name is Jelle, I'm 15 years old, and I come from the Nederlands. This video inspired me to do something very similar. I have a few question though, and I would like to ask them to you, and I hope you can answer some:
1. What kind of wood do you use?
2. Do you actually use 1 solid block of wood?
3. Is the tool you use at 2.40 really necessary, and what it is called?
4. Do you have any further tips?
I would appreciate it very very much if you could answer these, but I would also understand if not.
Greetings, Jelle
This was leftover from spruce glulam beam. That tool is an ordinary hook blade and it is used for carving indentations. Dont have any tips, I'm a beginner in carving myself :)
lignum
Thanks for answering :). Is such a hook blade necessary or can everything be done with a chisel and knife?
I'm also a beginner, and I don't have any tools.. but since I did a wood katana with a sander and a blade, I'm pretty sure you can pull this off with a chisel and knife... it will take more work and won't look as good, but you can deffinetly pull it off!
Greetings from brazil^^
Jelle Z you could invest in a dremel type multitool with all the burrs.the sanding bits would do this for you.
Красота!
Glad you think so!:)
Awesome!
Thank you!
I need a hand around the shop.... Done.
