DERELICT Hitachi UH123 Excavator - Will it crank?

  • This Hitachi UH123 looks like it spent the twilight years of it's life on a barge building causeways and saltwater docks. The owner abandoned it in the back of this field around 2009 when he took his barges out of service and offloaded them from the nearby tidal creek. The property owner told me to take a look at it and see if it'd be possible to move this thing. I don't think it will move under its own power, not without a lot of time and money. This excavator is rusted out like you wouldn't believe and is beyond the point of saving. However, the motor, an inline-6 diesel Hino EM100 may still have some life left in it.
I can find very little information about the UH123 or the Hino EM100. So if you have something about them, drop me a comment down below.

Howdy! This is the boiler-plate [BOTTOM TEXT] that populates the end of my video descriptions. Tom’s Mechanical Videography is a spin-off hobby TH-cam channel I created to house videos related to mechanical systems and DIY stuff. I’m a conservationist/biologist in my professional life but I’ve long had a passion for up-cycling, which is a fancy way of saying I’m cheap and like fixing broken stuff that I get for free. The primary purpose of this channel is a repository for informational videos I make related to solving niche and frustrating problems I encounter. That extends to vehicle and small engine repair videos. The secondary purpose of this channel, and the bulk of its content, is to motivate me to regularly think about and work on the garbage that I accumulate throughout my day to day life. By imposing a demand for [C O N T E N T] and an upload schedule on myself, it helps me actually work on all this trash in my yard. I don’t ever intend for this channel to make money or be successful, nor do I really want it to. I’m making videos as efficiently as I can with a phone camera and 10yo editing software in the limited time I have, which is my excuse as to why they all suck so hard. I have zero interest in making a career out of this or taking anyone’s money (other than TH-cam’s if they’ll pay me).
If for some strange reason you enjoy what I do, please consider SMASHING THAT MA’FUGEN [SUBSCRIBE] button. I don’t plan to quit anytime soon. Also, constructive criticism about how I can suck less is welcome but please keep in mind that I am a smooth-brained inbred hick and I probably won’t listen anyway.

That’s a super rare engine, worth at least 10 grand easily, nice score👍

I owned one, an excellent machine, the Hino 100 is one of the best diesel engines ever made. The UH123 is the same machine as a John Deere 792 with a Hino engine instead of a John Deere engine. That old girl is worth saving. BTW in Japan they were called UH10.

So I get out of this your philosophy is - If at first you don't succeed then give the F up. Glad I'm not the only one. Just amazing what salt water does to steel.

Great digger them. Worth saving. There wanted dead or alive here for export to third world countries. Non runners boxed up into a 40ft container
