I have had all 3, the HMF Optimizer, Power Commander 5, and just got the Vortex 10x Ecu, 6 months ago. The Vortex has cleaner, smoother Power delivery, better throttle response, and it has 10 different preset tunes, and the Vortex definitely fires up the machines easier in different climates, and weather conditions!
A lot of people are going to be sorely disappointed thinking an Optimizer is just as good as a Vortex ECU. The Vortex is hands down the best 799$ you will spend decreasing bog and flame outs. The throttle response is night and day better on most machines. I'm not sure if the Vortex equipped quad was spinning more or you're just giving your buddy a hard time to save a few coins. Either way, every fuel injected YFZ that I purchase to keep will utilize a Vortex. I like hill climbing and reliable fuel delivery is very important to me and one unexpected bog could ruin my day.
Sorry bro I've had many optimizers because I've owned over 12 different YFZ450 R's off the showroom floor I've been riding most of my life and I have always had HMF exhaust never had bog issues or any kind of sputter or any problems with the HMF optimizer whatsoever... I truly wish I could have felt the difference with the vortex and there was a tremendous amount of power because money is not an issue I would have bought the vortex if I could feel the difference but could not feel no different whatsoever.... Trust me I'm disappointed but at least I saved $800....
I typically keep a quad for several years and have the opportunity of trying out different products on the same quad to pinpoint the differences overtime. I've ran several exhaust systems, 3 intake kits, and 4 fuel controllers on the same YFZ450R just because I had them sitting on the shelf. I would love to sell Dobeck/HMF controllers over the Vortex they're always available with better margins. I have to keep revolving order open with Vortex to keep them on hand to prevent weeks long backorders. I don't recall any of my testing using the stock air box lid with the OEM filter, so maybe the lack of additional air was in the HMF EJK favor?
I agree, there is no comparison the Vortex 10x Ecu is the best hands down! And if anyone tries to say different then they're just trying to save money or just don't have any real experience on Quads....
@kb i been telling this guy for almost a year I literally just watch him to get a good laugh every once in awhile he clueless when it comes to quads your comment is everything that needed to be said💯🤙
I donf have either, but i think ill go with the Vortex, seems like every HMF owner in the video and comments wishes they had a vortex but ran shorts on $
💯 % Correct! All the racers use Vortex's. Way more cleaner, smoother, power delivery, and throttle response. Also has way more features and versatility! 10 different options and fires up the machines easier in different climates and weather conditions!
The difference is a piggy- back power pack, or a full ECU change out. The Vortex ecu replaces the Yamaha ECU, the others get wired into it. Why more features and options. The new Vortex's also come with a traction control button. It also fires up the machines easier in different climates and weather conditions!
Trust me I was hoping to see or feel a difference I've been running the HMF optimizer for years I'm all about the power but I did not feel no difference whatsoever I'm actually disappointed because I had the $1000 to spend on this device
@@rodneyyfz450ryea bro the vortex is useless without having it properly flashed/tuned/dyno for the specific setup. Those “preloaded tunes” ain’t worth AF. I have a vortex on my 23 yfz450r. Nobody around here has a dyno for atv. I’m gonna ride down there soon and have Sarmiento Motorsports Dyno it.
@@SyanPools The "loaded" tunes were developed and tested by three respected builders and several racers. When you're running a 14:1 with oxygenated fuel, larger throttle body, ported head some tuning should be expected. However, even the secondary base maps other companies offer would likely get you in the ball park to avoid a long haul to a shop with a dyno with those mods.
@@kbmotorsportsonline yeah so they say. Vortex on my raptor wasn’t worth af til it was flashed (I didn’t even dyno it) . Same thing on my brand new yfz. I don’t know anyone that has installed a vortex and didn’t need it flashed at minimum.
Also the breaking up that he is talking about is when I go into a burm I make sure I'm on the throttle and I don't let off so when the tires are not getting any attraction I'm hitting the Rev limiter so that's What he was hearing..
Put them on a dyno and you’ll see a world of a difference. Vortex has no match right now. Price is rough but if you want to be able to get a custom tune you need it. Every engine runs differently that being said so some may be able to get away with running a piggyback system but I’d personally rather have the custom dyno tune done to know for sure it’s not running lean or rich at all rev ranges
I’ve watched this guy every once in awhile clueless when it comes to tuning that’s why he uses a preset tuner and don’t know the difference between the two I have rp pipe vortex and rp intake
I honestly dont see a difference other than the throttle response like you said, and the price is almost like 3 HMF tuners.. me personally, would take the HMF any day, the differences between the two dont make up for the big cost in my opinion👍
U couldn't be more wrong yes if ur just wanting to run a exhaust the hmf tuner might meet ur needs but it stands no chance against a vortex when it comes to a cleaner safer more accurate tune torque hp throttle response there not even close ur comparing apples to oranges now if ur just a weekend rider a dobeck 3 button might suit ur needs but in no way does it compare to a vortex not at all
Dobeck is just a basic thing just for not letteing your quad run lean. I run pc6 and i also try a friends vortex on my own quad (with the pc6 bc i was to lazy to take it of) and i feel the low rpm torque and a little top end.
I just got 1 6 months ago and it's way better than the Power Commander 5,6, and the HMF Optimizer. The Vortex 10x Ecu has 10 different preset tunes, compared to the others that only have a few, also makes machines run way cleaner and much more throttle response, and fires up the machines easier in different climates, and conditions.
pin the throttle from idle with both and tell me there is no difference. One will either bog/die or both... the other will rev. Also bro, mad respect, you were railing. But why are you punch revving your bike like a poorly fueled two stroke? Makes your quad sound like its cutting out or something...
It seems the rider on the Grey and orange YFZ has to learn smoother throttle control...or get the vortex. Your quad on the gas sounds horrible compared to the Black YFZ.
There is 0 Argument to say a HMF optimiser can compete with a Vortex... Maybe for you guys that just add a slip on and call your bike "modded" you can get away with that little plug in Box 😂 but any actual Rider, Builder, Tuner of a truely modded bike knows Vortex is king of the hill when it comes to ECUs and tunning capabilities on sport ATVs.. - Videos a year old now, maybe since then he got wise and got himself a Vortex by now i hope! Nice bikes tho both of emmm! Very tame compared to my 70hp TT build 😅
The new Vortex even comes with a traction control button! Lol. Ask all the Racers what they use? And you'll get your answers... They all use Vortex's! The other's are for weekend warriors, and have way less features and options.
Maybe all the racers and all the pros have this device all I'm saying is there is no difference why spend the money if it does not make a difference I have the money in the bank I would have purchased it if I would have seen some sort of improvement but there was absolutely no difference I was very disappointed....
I agree it's definitely worth it, I just got 1 for my quad 6 months ago and your correct @350sxf the Vortex 10x Ecu comes with 10 different pre-set tunes. Along with other options that the Power Commander 5,6, and the HMF Optimizer don't have.

You blip the throttle way to much to feel a difference. Just stay in the damn throttle
It was driving my crazy listening to him constantly blip the throttle
