David , can I remove the front and rear frame bolts and just lower the motor enough to get the rocker box bolts off and save a bunch of time and struggles ??

yes, still need to remove exhaust, foot pegs, engine mounts, uncouple drive shaft ,,, at that point you could maybe do it but at that point not much more to just remove engine

David....Are you going to finish the project? it just seemed to end? I just took my vukcan out of storage and it has very loud valve noise.....

are you sure you have valve problems that is kind of unusual for that bike. I have heard that you may have to install cam chain extenders which does not require engine removal. I have one so I read up about that.

Julie B That's what I was thinking. Mabey that's the reason for why there has been no more videos? ;)

+David Lindquist I know I need to finish this, Let me tell you what the trouble was and the solution. There was a loud tappet noise going around 50- 60 Mph, I performed a valve job while engine was apart, bled the hydraulic lifters good, replaced the rocker arms that were nicked from the compression decompressors. A side note is when I ordered new decompressors I found Kawasaki upgraded there part number and there were several articles describing warranty work replacing the decompressors. I also found there was more travel on one cylinder timing chain tensioners, Long story short it's fixed. If you think your noise is from a loose timing chain you can remove the insert piece around spark plug and that is where the chain slaps and you will see a ware groove if thats your trouble. I just installed an engine on a 2005 classic, I'll try to make a quick video to show what I'm talking about.

is there an air filter in the air box under the tank ?? or just the round air filter on the side of the motor ? someone told me there is a air filter under the tank thanks in advance , Jeff

Only under the left round cover. Air goes from that left side filter then through a duct between cylinders to the right side and from there to Carb or throttle body depending what year yours is, Fuel injected or Carbureted

I think the spring on the decompression came off , most of the time it cranks slow like the device is not lifting the valves
