    Take it easy for 2 heat cycles like 5 miles. Vary between 10% and 75% throttle. Then take it out and rip it a few times , wide open for few seconds, back off repeat several times. Change the oil..done. You want the rings to seat. I wouldnt go from dead stop to wide open, roll into up to half then go wide open. Your also breaking in gears and belt so nothing harsh at first. I've broke in several machines that way and they always ran strong after, no issues.

    I picked my sportsman 850 up yesterday and I notice that when I put it in every gear it flashes for a second then stops flashing except for reverse. When I put it in reverse the gear selector icon never stops flashing on the dash in reverse, is this how reverse always is? Maybe you guys can help me? thank you!
    P.S
    I love the blue on your unit! Mines orange and I love the color.

    Have you had any issues with it? Mine is cutting off all of the sudden while riding, it will cut back on but it’ll do the same thing here and there.

    I have a 2023 sportsman 570 and the belt break in says first 5-10 miles in Low gear nothing over 10mph and that’s all. But it also says whenever you replace the belt do same thing

    Owners manual page 83, Polaris 2022 450cc H.O.
    PVT BREAK-IN ( CLUTCHES/BELT )
    "A proper break-in of your drive belt will ensure a longer life and better performance. To break in a belt, use low gear while varying speeds and avoiding wide open throttle for 5 to 10 miles."

    There is a motorcycle video about breaking in bikes, equal acceleration and deceleration breaks the engine in beat. He proved it by tearing the engine down and showing the pistons had no wear or deposits with moderately high acceleration and deceleration (not full power but about 65/70% power) and taking it easy had piston wear and deposits going past the rings, properly seating the rings with equal 65/70% acceleration and deceleration greatly increases engine life. Since the sportsman has a great acceleration and deceleration capability, break in first five to ten hours in low gear is crucial to the belt and the engine life.

    Hey Rich. Just got my ATV same one you got it has so much torque I was driving it 25 on a dirt road and my wheels would not stop spinning. I am following your instructions and so far so good. Do you know if it’s OK for me to wide open throttle after one day of getting it. I only wide openThrottle for like two seconds is that OK.

    • @richsgarage5897
      @richsgarage5897  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it's a short time it' probably okay. Just vary your speeds with the throttle and you will be fine.

      As the engine breaks in and clearances are established, you can have metal shavings in the oil. It's best to change the oil to remove the Debris.

    • @richsgarage5897
      @richsgarage5897  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup that’s why. All the engine components getting hot will produce metal shavings. You can actually see them when you do the first oil change.

      First 10 hrs I changed my oil to get the metal shavings out of it 2020 1000 xp limited. This is my 7 th new polars quad . Yes always be good to the engine for the first 5 hours half throttle on all machines including sleds. Warm the belt up before ripping it always

    But yes first 5-10 miles should be in low gear to break in the new belt then you can stay in high gear until you reach that 25 hour mark. That belt break in is crucial though

    Just bought a 2021 Sportsman XP1000 4 days ago. Got about 4 hours on it. 2 hours on the back wheels when I ride it a 2 hours on all 4 wheels when the wife granny drives it. I find it very hard to stay out of the throttle with so much power.
