    I had a problem with ATP a few years ago and spent 30min+ on a call to get resolved. I was not looking forward to another long call. Your 3 min video solved my problem. Thanks.

    Thank you, sir! I’ve been searching all over the internet for a solution, but everything I found was confusing and didn’t help. Your video was spot-on-now I can use ATP again. Thanks a bunch!

    Thank you! This finally fixed my problem running ATP on my Mac. Previously, every time it opened, it would crash. Of course Fidelity was not able to fix it and suggested it was a problem with my MacOS.

      Fidelity Tech Support is generally pretty good but sometimes you get someone that isn't. These directions were derived from my speaking with a tech support person. One of the problems is that they talk you through it using Finder and it can take about 15 minutes on the phone to go through it with them when it can be done with two terminal commands.

    Thank you for the short and perfect instructions on how to fix the glitches. In my case ATP would send me to the login page. I had tried the dragging to the Trash and still the system kept the information on the "secret" files. This is another "unsolved mystery" being solved....😀

    Very helpful tutorial; my only critique would be it would have been better to suggest backing up settings to the cloud at the beginning of the video, rather than the end. I didn't even know that was possible...

    • @movdqa
      @movdqa  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was an afterthought and I really don't want to update this video given the number of pageviews and having to go through it again. ATP saves your stuff by default. The problem is that ATP often crashes when you leave it up for too long, particularly if your computer sleeps the program and then you wind up with a WINE error. And this can happen to me quite often when I don't close it out at the end of the trading day.

    How does ATP run on Apple silicon? I used ATP on an Intel iMac about a year ago and it was horribly laggy.

    • @movdqa
      @movdqa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I run it on my M1 Mac mini but I only have my portfolio account positions displayed so that I can trade using ATP and sometimes the website is a mess. It's okay for that. I used to use it for real-time charts but it's just more efficient to use Think or Swim for charting as I can run ToS natively. On Intel Macs, ATP has to run through WINE so there's a performance penalty for that. On Apple Silicon Macs, ATP has to run through WINE and then through Rosetta 2 so you get a bigger performance penalty but Apple Silicon should theoretically make up for it. I have a big Windows desktop that I could run it on but I just prefer macOS. I am able to run ATP on my 2010 or 2014 iMacs but the program often spins up the fans on them.

    • @83442handle
      @83442handle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@movdqa Interesting. I actually just installed ATP on my 2014 i5 iMac for the first time in a year and the performance is much better than it used to be. I'm still using Windows PC as main driver but was considering a Apple Studio desktop at some point but probably not a great idea for day trading as everything is optimized for Windows and if I every want to use brokers using DAS trader I wouldn't need parallels.

    • @movdqa
      @movdqa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@83442handle I had terrible performance problems with ATP and the website yesterday on the Windows PC and switched to the M1 mini and performance was a lot better. They've made a lot of changes to the website in the past two years and I have the feeling that it's gotten quite bloated. It's also possible that there was just a lot of volatility on Thursday compared to Friday (not stock volatility but trading volume).
      I really wish that Fidelity and Ameritrade would provide compiled executable native distributions for best performance.

    • @83442handle
      @83442handle 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@movdqa From what I understand Fidelity is not going to really update ATP much and most R&D is going towards the new web based Trading Dashboard they have been rolling out to users in phases this summer. ATP will be around for a while I am sure but I have a feeling Fidelity wants to get rid of that at that at some point.

    • @movdqa
      @movdqa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@83442handle It does look like they do not want to put any effort into it. I actually like ATP. When it works. I would prefer it for placing trades over the website. I can't imagine that the Trading Dashboard would be much better as it's probably written with webtools. I have quite low expectations. I find ToS to be more powerful than ATP but my main trading accounts are with Fidelity and I'm comfortable with the organization. I also play tennis at their courts regularly which is a minor fringe benefit. I need to go take a look at their Trading Dashboard. This is the first I've heard about it.

    Michael, I am getting into the Active Trader. I am in the Mac community. I want to know using a Silicon Mac, what version of the M2 Mac do I need to get to do a great job using Trader? And what reasonably priced 4K monitor I should purchase. I really am anxious to know what you recommend. I eventually will, at least, get a second monitor. Thank you so much for your kind consideration. Also, how much storage and ram do I need?

    • @movdqa
      @movdqa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that any Apple Silicon Mac will run Active Trader Pro reasonably well if you're just starting out. These pro trading tools can get very large in terms of CPU and RAM requirements. It depends on what you are trying to do. I have run Active Trader Pro on the M1 mini, M1 Pro MacBook Pro and the Studio Max with no problems but my setup isn't complicated. What matters more is what other things that you're running at the same time.
      I am partial to Dell 27 inch Ultrasharp monitors and I have 3 of them. These are around $500 right now. Dell also sells consumer grade 4k 27 inch monitors for a lot less but I stick with the Ultrasharp monitors and I've been using them for about 15 years. If you want two external monitors, then the base MacBook Air and MacBook Pro (13 inch) won't work well without DisplayLink, and I don't recommend DisplayLink unless you have no other choices. The mini will support two external displays and the mini Pro will support three external displays.

    I have an issue when entering my password. Is it not the admin password? Which password is terminal asking for?

    • @movdqa
      @movdqa  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It should be the admin account, which, for most people, is the same as their user account. In general, it's the password you need to use to run sudo (superuser do).

    Hi, TOS is new to me but I have been using their downloaded app on my Macs (m1 and m2) for the past couple days. Both seems run decently well and I have no complains. Is there a noticeable improvement in performance to get TOS run natively on apple silicon?

    • @movdqa
      @movdqa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ToS runs three times faster using native Java compared to Intel Java in my experiments.

All🙄 couldn’t you have edited the video and put that at the beginning by now?? Good Lord, how many people have done the same thing as I just did and delete the app altogether only to hear your “one final comment”
