    • @ThinkTradeProfit
      @ThinkTradeProfit  3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@michellemoquin Hi Michelle,
      Try starting a new layout. Go to Layouts > New Layout, give it a name. Then go to Charts > and select an existing one from that menu. Go to Trades & Orders > Directed Trade & Extended Hours. Finally, go to Accounts > Positions. You should now have 3 windows in your new layout. I like to "float" screens". Right-click on any of the three new windows you should have now. Select 'Float Window'. You can now move that window outside of the big "green" Fidelity main menu frame. You can place wherever you like, even across multiple monitors. Repeat with the other two windows. Back to main menu, Layouts > hover over the name of this new layout and select 'Save'. Now this layout is Saved. Back to Layouts > look in the drop down for your layout labeled with (Default) after the name and select that. Now, you're back to whatever is your normal login layout.
      When you're feeling adventurous, go bacl to the newer saved Layout and play around some more. Just remember to Save often if you like what you have created. Try multiple chart windows, try adding a watchlist or two.

      Hi lmhulett,
      Thanks for the positive feedback. It's a really important topic, customizing the layout to what works best for you, and the orders you enter, and the speed and frequency with which you enter trades. Too many people focus on the drawbacks of the Active Trader Pro platform, instead of optimizing/customizing it the best they can. I still believe that the trade executions from Fidelity are the best around, though we definitely deserve some quality of life improvements and upgrades. Good Luck!

      5 hours later, I've watched the video another 2 times and have structured my system exactly as you have. Still trying to wrap my head around the ATR and W%R indicators and how they help guide one's decisions.

    • @ThinkTradeProfit
      @ThinkTradeProfit  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StevenVelasquez
      Hi Steven,
      Thanks for the positive feedback! ATR is mostly for position sizing and/or how far away I want to have a stop loss. At the open, the ATR's are larger, so I either need to 1) scale down shares per trade and keep my stop loss wider or I could choose to keep a larger position size and a tighter stop loss. For scalping, I don't like when the ATR is > .40 on the 1 minute chart and I trade the same 400 shares of PYPL or FB that I would trade with a tight stop loss of 0.25 or less. It's a quick indicator for me to glance at with a lot of screen time under my belt to say "this stock is trading normally" or "this stock is getting more volatile than ususal". The Willians%R is more an indicator of overbought and oversold, but I usually pay attention to when price has stayed overbought or oversold for a few minutes, not just the first cross into overbought or oversold territory. I hope that helps. Good Luck!

    Hello! Very recently found your channel (mainly because of ATP) and have been enjoying your videos. You have great explanations and the biggest take-away for me was using the Directed-Trade to execute orders faster by making custom buttons. I must confess that I have been mostly using market orders in-and-out for scalps as I just can't enter the numbers fast enough to get a reliable entry or stop; I had the same issues with Trading-Armor. So, before I was using pairs of the standard trade-tickets to set up for buy and sell. I have been burned a little with slippage but by the time a I get all the numbers punched-in, the trades 2/3rds gone. Also, appreciate the advice and insight for new traders. So, thank you very much!

    I have been using Fidelity for a bit now and I really don't like that they do not have hot keys. (50% Lot / 100% Lot / Close Position / etc.). The order execution is good but the interface could use some updating. I ended up using Autohotkey for a work around which is nice to prevent the need for the mouse but still not as nice as built in functionality. Basically mapped buy, sell and place order to hot keys, buy and sell Autohotkey scripts highlight share size so that I can quickly enter the share size or just use the default I have set in Fidelity. Figured I would share the Autohotkey work around option just in case anyone else did not like having to use the mouse, type then use the mouse again to place an order....this allows it to all be keyboard driven.

      Thanks for sharing that. I experimented with something similar using AHK. I tried having some keys tied to ticker symbols that I was watching that day, and had it flip the charts (and Level 2 was linked). It was ok, but I agree, ibuilt-in functionality would be so much better. Rumor from some subscribers that have connected with Fidelity developer teams - there is a complete re-write in progress. New software takes time though.

      I am fairly certain most of the big brokers have defaulted to FIFO (Schwab, TD Ameritrade, Ameritrade, Datek, IBKR, Vanguard). I don't think you can make changes to any stocks already traded and settled, but it is worth a phone call. Good Luck!

    I truly rely on your videos. I use ATP for my day and swing trading. Of the many challenges there are to trading, order entry is monumental for me. I’m getting faster at it in some areas but I’m also getting stuck in the mud even after hundreds of orders placed under my belt. Do you do any coaching or training in ATP etc?

    • @ThinkTradeProfit
      @ThinkTradeProfit  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andy,
      Thanks for the support! I don't have any coaching or training programs, but I am curious about what you may be struggling with. I assume you have some shortcuts setup for your most common order types as seen here - th-cam.com/video/nq6oUospoiE/w-d-xo.html . For swing trading, I think Trade Armor is good because of the "set it and forget it" approach. You may want to get comfortable with all the conditional order types, Buy Triggers Bracket (OTOCO) comes to mind. imgur.com/cr5Zws8

    Looking great! I tried to download on my Apple M1 chip but it's not looking so hot right now. I had Fidelity for quite some time right now and started to trade as a hobby.I just wish they had a better app version with a live chart. I have a couple questions for you if you don't mind.
    1) Does Fidelity fill in orders the best out there? I heard this somewhere but wasn't sure if it's true
    2) I know it's different on how you trade but do you feel like you are missing out on earlier pre-market hours?
    Thank you!

    • @ThinkTradeProfit
      @ThinkTradeProfit  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi JC W,
      If I understand your first question correctly, then yes. I'll say confidently that I believe Fidelity's fills on orders are among the best of the $0 commission brokers. With some paid brokers (Lightspeed, Tradestation, and maybe Interactive Brokers), I would guess that the fills are nearly the same, but those platforms have fees for platform use, real-time quotes, AND commissions. I base this on 2+ years experience with Fidelity ATP. I have (or have had) other accounts at TD Ameritrade, Schwab, and E-Trade. The main reason this is true is because Fidelity does not sell their order flow and their back-end routing is very good and they constantly monitor transactions to see who is giving the best trade executions. They make adjustments as necessary. Likewise, Fidelity has never had multi-day outages during critical times like other brokers.
      For question two, no. I don't usually trade pre-market, because it doesn't suit my style. Most of the time, it is less liquid than regular hours, but with a stock with news and a lot of attention there can be good volume for people to trade. I used to work on the NASAQ market-making desk of a broker dealer. I would rather have a stock be trading actively with no news but good overall volume. It suits my scalping personality. I can do many trades during the day at what I believe are low-risk times and have a high percentage chance of being positive most trading days. I am not looking to find a low price stock in pre-market that is going to trade to high multiples during the trading day. With that, I will jump at insanely good "value" in pre-market with something that has interest that day AND a wide spread. Then I usually flip it quickly.

    Hello. Wondering why you have a 'buy market' and 'buycovmkt' and a 'sell market' and 'shortmkt' in Dircected Trade? Is this just for a visual? Is this something you need to do in Fidelity since they do the same thing? I would imagine you can't have two positions open at the same time. This would free up 2 spots. Is Directed Trade the usual way to execute trades? Thinking of switching to Fidelity.

    • @ThinkTradeProfit
      @ThinkTradeProfit  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Melissa,
      Fidelity does require you to enter a separate 'Buy to Cover' order type for short positions. If you make a mistake (I have many times in fast markets), with a quick call to a rep, they can switch it to the appropriate Buy type in your account. You'll never be at risk if you complete either Buy order. Directed Trade is the fastest way to enter trades with Fidelity, in my opinion. The platform is very stable during fast markets and heavy volume and the price improvements that occur on your trades are the best among all the $0 commission brokers. I hope that helps. Good Luck!

      Anna Guimarães you have never heard of Fidelity? It’s a stock company that has beeen around since we were born. They don’t pay you anything; it is a stock trading platform. You should learn about stock trading before you start stock trading; and don’t follow anyone on TH-cam because I guarantee you will lose all your money...... start small by investing in companies that will never disappear like Amazon, Facebook, google, Tesla, Apple.... I hope you get my point..day trading is for desperate people that 100% will lose their money.

    • @Derek_1111
      @Derek_1111 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@greekmike3040 Day trading is very similar to poker in that 90-95% of people/players are losers. However the 5-10% of the winners are professionals and they make a great living because of the fact they're making that money from that high % of losers. The key term here though is professionals. You can't expect to earn a living day trading(or be a winning trader) without being an absolute professional in your trade. That includes hours upon hours of studying and months to years of honing your craft without going broke in the process. Most never have the discipline to get to a level of success before giving up though. So you're mostly right however you're wrong saying that "day trading is for desperate people that 100% will lose their money". You need to replace that with 90-95% will lose their money. But for the disciplined willing to actually put in the work it can be a very viable career. Regardless of what you do though you should be building a long term portfolio and only day trade using a simulator until you prove to yourself that your strategy is profitable before trading real money. Then once you are trading real money start with small position sizes and prove your profitability before increasing to larger sizes. I myself prefer swing trading and position trading which I think is much easier for a beginner to learn. Still takes knowledge and patience. Many beginning day traders lose money even on stocks that are trending hard because they hold their losers too long and sell the winners to fast besides often not having a clue what they're doing in the first place. Swing trading and position trading takes that precise execution out of the equation and allows you to act a bit less emotionally because even with a good strategy it's your emotions that are usually the most detrimental to your success for day trading.

      Sorry to hear about the issues at eTrade. I used them more than 10 years ago. Most of Fidelity's executions are instant or sub-1 second. The worst I've experienced in the past year was a FB trade at the open when the market was gapped up huge. There was a trade that took about 3 seconds to fill. Other than that, the stability of the platform is very good. The executions are near instant. I scalp fast stocks with a lot of algorithms. You really don't need crazy specs or a new comp to trade, but if you are going to run 3+ monitors and browse the web, and maybe watch live streams... all of that uses memory and some video processing and memory. I'd suggest 16 GB memory, processor at least i5 or the AMD equivalent. Video card doesn't have to be amazing to run the Active Trader Pro stuff. I didn't build my machine, I bought this model last year around this time with the i7 processor (not the i5 as shown on Amazon), and got it for a decent price through Office Depot amzn.to/388wdiy

    Ken -- I'm having some issues at Fidelity with making rapid trades. If I enter a buy order, I usually then enter a stop order so that if the stock price drops rapidly, I don't lose alot of money. However, if you have entered a stop order, the system will not allow you to quickly enter a market sell order. So, I've had to go to the orders window, select "market order". The system then allows you to select "replace order". Has that been your experience? It's very inconvenient to enter a "market sell" order without going through all those steps. Any advice? Thanks in advance!

    • @ThinkTradeProfit
      @ThinkTradeProfit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately, I've had a similar experience. I believe the fastest way to have the protection of the stop and have a market order ready is: Place the stop order, then immediately cancel & replace the stop order, change it to market and have it ready to submit. The stop will be in place until you send. On send, the stop is cancelled and the market order is sent. I wish it were better.

    Hi Ken, thanks much for this video, and the other ones too. While I've had a Fidelity account for years via my employer's 401(k), I never knew about this platform. There is little on the web about Active Trade Pro. I've been a long-time user of Thinkorswim, even prior to the TD Ameritrade acquisition. It's Mac-friendly, I believe the first platform to do so. I also use TradeStation and MultiCharts, which are not Mac-compatible. To what extent, if any, do you have experience with ATP on a Mac machine? If anyone else is using ATP on Mac, curious to hear your feedback, mostly from a stability standpoint. Thanks much.
