One of the top 3 sights I’ve experienced in my life was a thunderstorm from an airplane at sunset. I had an aisle seat, and the man next to me got my attention and told me to look out his window. (Others on our side of the plane were doing the same with their neighbors.) I’m so glad he did. It was evening, and the light was hitting all the countryside below so nicely. There was a spot where clouds were dumping rain on a town/city. The storm clouds were lit up purple, pink, and peach by the setting sun, while also being illuminated sporadically from within by lightning. It was beautiful.
Yes! there are very few atmospheric weather phenomena above the troposphere where airliners fly, so you will usually get clear unobstructed views of the sun/moon/stars flying above the clouds. Flying VFR on top is my favorite thing
Can someone take a chance to appreciate all the engineers who made the airtravel possible and see these spectacular scenes. The pilot seems to be cruising effortlessly. Passengers might be dozlng off right on top of s scary thunderstorm that mother nature have thrown at us.
I remember in 2002 when I went to the USA, the pilot told us to look out our window at the storm over Hawaii. It was a sight I'll never forget, it was stunning.

I witnessed this years ago while flying across the US from the north east to the south west and crossing over a cold front. It was a very boring flight in a small basic aircraft with no TV or internet, but once I saw the long line of thunderstorms lit up like this, it became one of the most memorable flights of my life.
@@jayasmrmore3687going through the storm is pretty risky tho. Updraft push you there, downdraft, pushes you here. The plane is in bad shape from being hit by countless hailstones. Risk of intracloud lightning too. Would not want to experience that as a passengers y'know?

Staying up for hours, looking after dials, gauges, meters in the hundreds, then there's the constant noise. They must be passed out almost comatose after so much bullshit.

I once flew almost through a thundercloud on a plane to Italy. I know it's dangerous but it was mesmerizing. Violet skies all around and lighting strikes just outside the window. The pilots handled it beautifully and we landed in heavy rain. That was my favorite flight of all time
Morgantown West Virginia is almost 70 miles South of me, when I sit on my Back Porch and theres a Thunderstorm there, THIS is what I see, the tops of the "Electrified Popcorn" clouds. (Im up in the Hills of Pa)

They were just as intelligent, cunning, intuitive, and calculating as any modern man, perhaps more so (you ever hear that people today act like they are getting stupider than in the near past?) plus I am sure they had good senses of humor! This includes the Neanderthals and the Denisovans; both of those species also likely had complex languages. Astronomy and medical sciences are tens of thousands of years old.
Such calmness above, just air and clouds. To think that probably underneath, there is vibrant life (self conscious or not, aquatic or terrestrial) depending from this rain above. If there is people, they’re completely unaware of your presence, going about their own business, probably talking in another language, with a different culture, a routine for them it’s completely different to us.

I have seen this in an airplane over a great thunderstorm. And I saw the actual shape of the flashes too, not only the light. I wish i had filmed it as it was an awsome sight.

Looks like a low topped thunderstorm under 30,000 feet. The ones in the tropics can push 50,000 and passenger jets cannot fly over those, just around.

There is an awful amount of wind noise in the flight deck. Is a window open ?

Each knot (elbow) in a strike is made by resistance as the charge comes out of counter space' then back into counter space.
