I think its fair to say this scene is one of the most memorable scene in Cinema. Even if you are not a movie buff. The words and the delivery of the dialogue is just phenomenal
“My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the armies of the North, and general of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius… father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife, and I will have my vengeance in this life or the next.”
Maximus is a powerful Roman general, loved by the people and the aging Emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Before his death, the Emperor chooses Maximus to be his heir over his own son, Commodus, and a power struggle leaves Maximus and his family condemned to death. The powerful general is unable to save his family, and his loss of will allows him to get captured and put into the Gladiator games until he dies. The only desire that fuels him now is the chance to rise to the top so that he will be able to look into the eyes of the man who will feel his revenge

It might be, the original script writer was replaced as crow thought his writing was no good. This speech was written by the man replacing him, and when crow read it he said. This is crap, but being the best actor in the world, I can make it sound good.
So that's how arrogant crow is

You are totally right. And yes i heard of the same story. There would have been a botched film if not for the constant changes it had while filming, even the big guy that he becomes friends with was supposed to be Arnold. I cant picture Arnold in a movie like that. So glad for that!
