The soundtrack goes really good with driving through the bright futuristic city, they also have some rock music because Keanu Reeves character is an old-school rockstar with crazy concerts. When characters play guitar in the game they fingers are actually motion tracked to the right strings

This isn't a part of the game's soundtrack, this is a radio station's music inside the game. The actual soundtrack(BGM) is incredible, almost ever track memorable in it's own way.

This track is used to show the depths to which culture has sunk in Night City. Gangs of people who have inflicted horrors on themselves so they can inflict worse on others. Bodies and their parts, extreme sensations, all of it is synthetic, commodified, and meaningless. Of course this is what the kids would be listening to.

The thing about Cyberpunk music is that a lot of the soundtrack is on purpose made as "what if trashy pop but future?"
The whole package is fascinating because you can tell everyone involved tried to predict the future while also making bangers. You get legitimately amzing pieces in it as well.
And lets not even bring up lyrics being crass or whatever when mainstream songs RIGHT NOW are things like WAP (Wet A** Pu**y)

So thematically this song goes really good with the game. One of the major themes in Cyberpunk is the implications of what happens morally when every part of the body can be replaced by cybernetics. They're living in a world where all your insecurities can be fixed with money, and therefore the body itself is no longer sacred. There's nothing sacred about the body because it's become the norm to alter it in every aspect. If the body is no longer sacred, then there's also no moral or societal restriction on what's considered obscene, and the music in Cyberpunk is written in a way to reflect the world they live in. When a song like "we like to taste, we like to fuck, and we like pain" has a banging beat, it's going to get radio play.
Personally my favorite music in the game is by the fictional band Samurai. Black Dog, Never Fade Away, Chippin In.

Idk who told you to listen to that. You want to listen to Major Crimes, Night City Aliens, Who's Ready for Tomorrow, or I really want to stay at your house. Hell just look at the soundtrack to Cyberpunk Edgerunners which is the anime adaptation. All of the music they use in it is beyond phenomenal and is all original music from the game. It's also one of the most influential (to me) pieces of media that has come out recently. I even made a David Martinez jacket from the show.

Games are like movies rating wise. A game like Cyberpunk is the equivalent of an R rated movie (in the US a game being rated M is generally the equivalent of a movie being rated R) and includes pretty much everything you could imagine being in a R rated movie.
There are action games like Halo which hit M based almost entirely on violence
There are horror games rated M because the content is uh...horrifying
    etc etc
There are also games that would go beyond the M rating, as far as I know exclusively based on "Adult Content", but just like you won't walk into your average chain movie theater and find that kind of thing, you aren't going to find those kind of games on shelves.

    @WillPlayLP ปีที่แล้ว +3

Oh my god, Geebz. You have to understand three very important things about this song in order to understand why it got suggested.
One is the general philosophy of cyberpunk - the statements it makes on consumerism-driven excess, corporate control over every day life, and the way everything gets "dumbed down" to the lowest common denominator when it comes to marketing. And the way that impacts everyone in the process - the artist managed to make something that could be mindlessly vapid but really made something catchy, fun, and silly. It's one of the most memorable songs in the game.
The second is that gaming in general has a very tongue-in-cheek sense of humor. Even most "serious" games have a ton of humor. It might dark humor, it might be ridiculously over the top, and it might be both of those at different times. When you spend dozens to hundreds of hours in a game, it needs to balance out a lot of elements to keep you interested. If it's too dark, it just ends up dreary and serious. There's an undercurrent of humor in gaming that stems from the early development days of bedroom/garage developers referencing Monty Python and such in their games. So you get songs like this.
The third is Twitch culture. You experienced it with the DK Rap - half of the people suggesting it, the other half desperately shouting them down, both halves laughing. The trollish element that loves the shock factor of ridiculous things that don't necessarily "belong." The other half knowing what is going on and knowing they should stop you, but also knowing that shouting "NOOO" is going to get you interested in a morbid fascination. And the fact that, in general, we want to give you a full perspective on what games are like. Because we all had this reaction to the song the first time. And gaming culture in general loves sharing absurdities that crop up in games.
You probably noticed the people in chat saying, "I wish I had the goblin emote" and "GoblinPls". This is a direct reference to another streamer on Twitch - Vinny Vinesauce. Vinny is a long time streamer - been streaming since before Twitch, for about 12-13 years. He and a few other streams built up a very strong audience and community over the years, so it's almost inevitable that some of us are going to be any given stream. He can be a bit hard to pin down but in general, Vin has a very dry sense of humor and there's a sense of sardonic defeat when he embraces something out of character.
And this song has... a history with our community.
When he was playing Cyberpunk back when it came out, this song started playing and we lost our collective mind. The "goblin" emote is a reference to a hip-thrusting goblin emote that he has and it's from a weird youtube video. Vinny tends to refer to goblins when it comes to sort of unhinged, feral, silly, abrasive behavior. And when we (chat) heard this song, a couple of people started spamming (chanting, really) the emote with the words "PAIN", "WE LIKE THE PAIN", etc. And then it just took over the stream - and Cyberpunk was pulling 7-10k viewers for Vinny at the time. And so Vinny started laughing not at the game, but at the fact that chat was losing its mind. So, naturally, it became an unhinged meme for us. Now it's one of our channel memes and we use whenever something is sort of ridiculous and over-the-top. If it's unhinged but genuine, we spam it with love. If it's corporate shlock, we spam it with derision.
But the fact that song is incredibly catchy, the artist is really talented, it fits in with the world, it's a gaming meme, and it's a Vinesauce meme in particular? Full force of memery.
EDIT: At least one other person mentioned, "These shrimp fresh?" Which is a reference to a particular NPC in the game and the weird stilted conversation you can have in game. The NPC became a favorite character of the stream.

Dood!!! This is such a fantastic comment and explanation of the life this song has been given outside of the game and the culture surrounding gaming in general - How things become immortalized and enshrined in a sense though memes and inside jokes within communities. I wish I knew how to get in touch with Vinny! I lost my shit when I saw the goblins for the first time! Sooo good.

You put your heart and soul into that song and it shows. The fact that you managed to write the catchiest song in the game while nailing the theme and still managing to have it be genuinely good is a crazy feet.
If you want a chance to talk to Vin, you should stop by when he's streaming. We tend to spot and boost the creators who stop by. I can guarantee that we'd love to get you a chance to talk to him. You might just need to tag one of the mods of the channel to let them know you're there. Or do a highlighted message or something.

This is one of the songs that plays on the radio. Why does that matter? Well the game is about the literal collapse of culture and civilisation through commercialization. A lot of the songs on the game radio (and there's like a 100 of them) are purposefully composed to fit in that world - they are trashy, low effort, shocking, and obviously geared towards an audience that lives with depravity on a daily basis. Still, each song is a self-reflection of that collapse of culture and is very self-aware. If you played the game it would make more sense. Like when you're driving through a downtown and hear this song while passing very obvious ads for dominatrix p0rn, you can't help but feel like the city is baring its fangs at you. Like it wants to swallow you and make you part of its depravity.
All of the bands and artists who took part in composing songs for the radio (and there were a lot) did a phenomenal job bringing Night City to life.

to understand why this music elicits the kind of reaction players do in cyberpunk 2077, one must understand the context. this music in the cyberpunk game is a symbol of corporate labels. she plays on the radio, all the time. at the same time, true cool melodies, or a rather pleasant "outsider no more", are played either as an element of the gameplay, or performed by living people.

The game trailer that had this song was epic in part because of the song
The adult video game thing comes up every so often because the media like controversy. Mortal kombat and gta are a couple good examples. Video game censors are tight a**es no matter the era but we've come a tad further progressively. Violence is mostly allowed in all forms these day but nudity or sex and things get dicey. Red dead redemption 2 was actually very censored considering its made by gtas makers, avoid even direct references to sexual assault... Fair enough if they dont want to show it but when movies and series get away with 15+ minute long sexual assault scenes its definitely biased. Rdr1 had one of the only direct sex scenes in a game of recent memory, gta iv had a penis shown for like 5-10 seconds. As far as im concerned any cutscene should be fair game to match the silverscreen industry and then with actual gameplay im fine with them being a bit more picky. 1 of the most controversial i heard of was a really old game thats banned most places even still cos the only aim was to sexually assault a native american as a cowboy... Which is fair cos thats a pretty morally bad and stupid concept for a basis of a game.
Radio mirrorpark on gta v is pretty chill spacey relaxed night cluby vibes... Also the radio has amazing comedy skitts and parodies throughout any 3d gta game. 1 of the guys Lazlow parodies himself in the game as a talkshow/dj which he was in real life, he was a writer too but has since left along with a lot of the old studio heads sadly.

Yes, there are ratings: The developers describe the content like this:
“Cyberpunk 2077 contains strong language, intense violence, blood and gore, as well as nudity and sexual material.”
